Kotakuite CaptainSquishy points us to his girlfriend's blog where she has documented the making of these cute Mario Mushrooms that she knitted for the Captain's desk at his new job. According to her, they are fairly simple to make and don't take a ton of materials. If you'd like to make some of your own, Mrs. Squishy has kindly provided instructions that you can download here. Something about seeing those cute little guys out in a field just makes me smile.

<![CDATA[Real Mario Mushroom, Growing Before Our Eyes]]> Here's a beautiful time lapse video of the Amanita Muscaria "Mario" mushroom that we showed you yesterday. See? We told you that learning is fun.

<![CDATA[Wild Mario Mushroom in the ... um Wild]]> mushroom.jpg

I know these things exist, and I know that this isn't news, but it's still pretty funny to see one just growing out there under a tree. Glyn sent these two pics in because he was as delighted as I would have been to discover one all on his own while on a canal boat trip in sunny Stoke-on-Trent, UK. I assume the first pic is before he licked the mushroom and the second is after. Triptafantastic.

<![CDATA[Alice in Marioland]]>

I have several Threadless tees, and while their "girly shirts" are really not that girly (actual shape might be cool), I can forego a decent fit for the incredible artwork that goes into many of the designs.

This one was linked over on Destructoid and it's up for votes for only one more day. It's one of the most witty cultural mashups I've ever seen, and while the Alice is ripped directly from the original books, the guy is long dead and the visual vocabulary is much stronger with an authentic Alice in there.

<![CDATA[Mario Mushroom in Be'er-Sheva]]>

Writes Kotakuite Yosubis:

I found this while waiting for the red light to change. The mushroom is located in Be'er-Sheva, Israel. It's painted on Be'er-Sheva's HQ of one of the biggest Political Parties in Israel. The last picture is of my brother, standing next to it in order to show the size of it.

I think I can speak for everyone when I say the Israeli-Palestine conflict needs a lot less nail bombs in school buses and a lot more 1UP mushrooms. If only all conflicts could be solved Mario-style: by innocently jumping on other people's heads.

<![CDATA[Finally, Hypnotic Mushrooms That Are Legal!]]> mushsun.jpg

I'm not sure why I need a Super Mario Bros. mushroom, but I do... almost as much as Geek on Stun. Both versions feature a mushroom that gyrates and bounces up and down on a little box when powered by the sun. I SO need this.

Check out this sweet quilt. I love Mario-themed home projects. Keep sending in your game-related presents. For some odd reason we've decided to bunch them all under the somewhat broad tag of "coolness."
