A few glitches. Well, Sony have let us know that those glitches are to be addressed in a patch due for release soon.

Among the issues to be fixed are:

* Restrictions to the copying of Saved Data have been removed. This will make it possible for Saved Data to be backed up and then restored to the User Account it was created under (whether that’s on the same PLAYSTATION 3 or not).

* Changes to the way the game handles data. These changes will help to prevent Saved Data corruption.

* Visual notification of critical save progress has been added. A ‘MotorStorm Helmet’ icon will be displayed on-screen to warn users that critical data is being saved. This is in addition to the HDD Access light which currently flashes while the game makes a critical save.

* The glitch which enables a player to exploit the Boost system has been removed. The development team are working to identify which times have been achieved using this glitch; Action will be taken to ensure that the Leaderboards become genuinely competitive again.

* Time Attack times and Rank information will update correctly for all players. Any pending Time Attack times will begin to filter through systematically and the online Ranks should display correctly once the update is released.

* Additional fixes and improvements to gameplay. Many thanks for your feedback on these and other issues so far; we are still investigating the other issues that have been brought to our attention.

Interestingly, Sony call it an "update". Buddy, that ain't an update, it's a patch.

<![CDATA[Fresh Motorstorm Pacific Rift Screens]]> Sony brought the same Motorstorm Pacific Rift level to Games Convention that it did to E3 Judge's Day. You'll find what we thought of that off-road experience right here. You'll find new environments, new levels and maybe even a new car or two, however, in the latest screen shots from Evolution Studios' PlayStation 3 racer in our gallery below. They're still piping hot from GC 08, so enjoy responsibly.

<![CDATA[Qore Customers Get MotorStorm 2 Demo A Month Early]]> This won't go down well with the Qore-hating brigade. Especially if you're also a MotorStorm fan. It's been revealed that as part of the upcoming fourth episode of Sony's paid-for PS3 "editorial" program, both annual subscribers and individual purchasers of the episode will be given access to the MotorStorm 2 demo a month before anyone else. If you were ever worried that Qore would be Sony's way of easing the PSN into a premium service divide like that which separates Xbox Live, now's the time to start worrying a little more.

<![CDATA[Tons of New MotorStorm 2 Screens, Concept Art]]> Sony's released a buncha new MotorStorm 2 screens and concept artwork. While the previous game was set in Monument Valley, the sequel's gone all tropical with a jungle beach backdrop. Online it's possible for up to 16 players to go head-to-head, while up to four players can race each other offline. MotorStorm 2 also rolls out the monster trucks. Wasn't that into the first MotorStorm, but this is looking attractive. Check out the gallery below, game's out this fall.

<![CDATA[MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Hands-On Impressions]]> Evolution Studios' tropically themed follow-up to MotorStorm was playable at today's SCEA Pre-E3 Judge's Day, a pre-alpha build that gave us just a taste what the sequel holds in store. Just two levels were on hand in the demo version of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Beach Comber (for single player) and Rain God Spires (for split-screen multiplayer). The former was comprised of an inland area, thick with vegetation, and a sandy beach, the sun setting brightly in the distance. The latter was a rockier track, one that looked to have been inspired by Rain God Mesa from the original MotorStorm.

Evolution may have changed up the setting, but they haven't mucked much with the MotorStorm mechanics, as players of the first will feel right at home. The vehicle line up is almost exactly the same, but handling on the rides felt just a bit looser, making it harder to avoid obstacles than we remember. Unfamiliarity with the new Pacific Rift tracks more than likely accounted for our many, many crashes. It certainly wasn't a skill issue.

The newest, most notable changes come in the form of engine cooling by driving through pools of water—watch out though, motorcycles simply can't handle deep water—the new monster truck vehicle class and splitscreen multiplayer.

We only tested out the splitscreen mode briefly and only with two players. After our hands-on time with that particular mode, we don't expect to revisit it often when the game is finally released. With such expansive tracks and the option of taking multiple routes, slicing one's horizontal view in half doesn't make for the ideal MotorStorm experience.

Taking the monster truck for a spin, however, is certainly something we look forward to revisiting. The vehicle class's pros, cons and quirks weren't immediately apparent in our handful of monster truck races, but its promise—quad crushing and better-than-a-big rig handling—is exciting. As expected, the thing can overturn rather easily, meaning you'll probably do more braking than with other classes.

As we mentioned before, the game was still early; only 40% complete, reportedly. That was certainly apparent, as the frame rate wasn't close to consistent and much of the environmental effects seemed to be missing. We didn't seem to notice much in the way of land deformation, nor did explosions and the kicking up of mud impress. What did, though, were the ragdoll physics. Launching a motorcyclist across the finish line from an exploding bike was far more rewarding than in the original. Visually, though, the game looks rather flat at this point.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift certainly has promise. We're definitely concerned about the current lack of "oomph" in the build we played and that the tropical setting may make for more cramped, less nail-biting thrill rides. Given that Evolution says it still has a long way to go—and that we still had fun—we're definitely giving them the benefit of the doubt.

<![CDATA[Three Minutes Of MotorStorm 2]]>

Motorstorm? Loved it. Probably loved it more than you did, as I played through the entire thing, sticking up for it during the public picking apart of it's graphical promise. "It doesn't look like that E3 2005 footage!" they said. "La la la! I can't hear you! Vrrooom!!" I said. Motorstorm 2? I'm concerned. I keep looking at that ever present "pre-alpha 40% complete" reminder, but, man, does that water look less interactive than I'd hoped—even though the cooling properties are nifty. Still, monster trucks! And that lens flare? Just like the real thing. Whaddya think?

<![CDATA[MotorStorm 2 Does Not Feature Elvis]]> MotorStorm dev Evolution was acquired by Sony. Have things changed after going from indie to corporate monolith? Says Evolution's Paul Hollywood:

There is commercial pressure from Sony who want us to create a viable business product but we're more after the critical acclaim. I think there's less pressure now because when we were an independent developer we had the pressure of paying the wages every month. Now we don't have to worry about the next game or what we're going to be doing.

That's right, you're doing MotorStorm 2, and we're pretty sure it'll do fairly well. So, yeah, everything's coming up Evolution! About that sequel, which was inspired by Hawaii's beautiful island setting, Hollywood points out that the game has "no hula" and "no Elvis." No Elvis? Wha?! Two words: "Big" and "mistake."

<![CDATA[Motorstorm 2 Gets Named, Detailed]]> Following a fresh batch of screens this morning, more Motorstorm 2 details are emerging from the Sony PlayStation Day in London, where Sony's Paul Hollywood was on hand to deliver the goods on the new title. Now called Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, the entire game takes place on a tropical island, complete with waterfalls, volcanoes, and vegetation that will hinder smaller vehicles while the large ones crush it beneath their wheels. The game will double the number of tracks from the first game, bringing the number to a much more respectable 16. You'll be able to drive through streams to cool your engine, adding a bit of strategy to the mix, while the addition of monster trucks to the franchise will certainly cause problems for those who prefer the lightweight, crushable motorbikes. On the multiplayer side of things, the game will support split screen multiplayer as well as 16-player online races. See the nifty things you can accomplish when your game isn't rushed out the door?

<![CDATA[Lush New Motorstorm 2 Screens Emerge]]> motorstorm2506.jpg The UK's PSW Magazine has a slew of gorgeous new screenshots of the highly anticipated follow-up to last year's PlayStation 3 racer Motorstorm, which show off just how far the developers have come since those first stumbling steps on the PS3. The new island local looks suitably tropical, the characters have a great deal more character, and overall the environments look like they'd be a joy to tear up. Hit up the link for the full gallery.

<![CDATA[Motorstorm 2: The CG Trailer]]> Evolution Studios is setting themselves up for some serious nitpickery with their next MotorStorm, spitting out a pre-rendered trailer that we suppose should be considered a "target render." Regardless of the delivery, as a MotorStorm fan, it's still very exciting stuff. Monster trucks, destructible environments, chesty motorcycle riders wearing low-cut leather get ups getting crushed by giant tires—pretty much everything on our checklist.

<![CDATA[MotorStorm 2: It's Official]]> Sony Computer Entertainment and Evolution Studios have made official what we've known for a few weeks now—MotorStorm 2 is coming, bringing monster trucks and four player split-screen action with it. The PlayStation 3 racer is indeed moving from arid Monument Valley to a lush Pacific island, an island apparently known for its remote location and 16 "diverse multi-route tracks."

Instead of mud, rocks, dust and the occasional cliff, MotorStorm 2 will feature natural hazards like "tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools." Sounds just fantastic. The official release on the matter talks up an Autumn release, arriving with a "host of game modes and rewards." Now about those vehicle loading times...

<![CDATA[Motorstorm 2 Details Peel Out, Full Reveal Expected This Wednesday]]> The latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine reveals a handful of previously unknown and unconfirmed details about Evolution Studios' sequel to Motorstorm, including the addition of monster trucks(!) to the vehicle line-up and an all new location. Motorstorm 2, which is expected to be revealed officially this coming Wednesday, will, as previously reported, feature races on a tropical island, bringing with it water hazards and, we assume, fruity cocktails.

We're waiting patiently for our issue of OPM to arrive with the smattering of details, but if the countdown clock on ThreeSpeech is accurate, we'll probably see the goods within the next 48 hours or so.

<![CDATA[MotorStorm 2 Will Be A Four-Player Splitscreen Island Getaway]]> Sony showed a few games off at GDC, but one they didn't "show off" was MotorStorm 2. That one was reserved for the BBC, apparently, as only the Beeb's Darren Waters got a premiere showing of Evolution's upcoming racer. The sequel to 2006's launch favourite is leaving the desert behind, and will instead concentrate on a "lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation". More importantly - for both haters of exotic flora and PS3-owning Mario Kart enthusiasts - the game will feature 4-player split-screen racing, so you and three friends can party like it's 2002.

<![CDATA[Sony Paid $32.6 Million For Motorstorm Studio]]> To acquire Motorstorm developer Evolution and their Pursuit Force subsidiary BigBig, Sony forked over £16 million, which translates to a little over $32 million. So is that a lot of money? Considering the importance of Motorstorm in the first year of the PS3 platform and the dollars Sony has sunk into the game's marketing and combo distribution, it makes little sense not to buy the studio before the Motorstorm 2 media frenzy begins and keep the expenses and profits a little more in-house.

But if we have any corporate buyout specialists who'd like to run some numbers and post them in the comments, please, by all means. Until then, we'll get back to drooling on our laptops and coming up with catchy headline words like, "Moneystorm."
