I have watched every episode of Nintendo Week since the show premiered. If you are at all familiar with sites like IGN and Kotaku then there is very little new information to be gleaned there.
While there has been some quality tidbits and reveals on the show (Madden 10 retained some level of motion controls? Excitebike: World Rally? First, albeit ridiculously brief, glimpse at CV: The Adventure ReBirth?), the vast majority of the content has either been covered already or concerns games that the 'core' are not interested in (Style Savvy, for example).
Furthermore, the segments for the games showcased on each show tend to be VERY short. Nintendo's games obviously are going to take the top spot, but the third-party titles are typically discussed in general terms for a couple of minutes at most.
If Nintendo could cut back on the skits and focus more on the games, even if many traditional gamers are not interested in some of the highlighted products, then I think the show would be far more effective in obtaining and educating an audience. #reggiefilsaime
@Crash__Man: informative on only the most surface level.
inform the millions of gamers that do NOT frequent sites like these.
My contention stems exactly from that. The level of information relayed about many of the games shown is so basic that I wonder if it is actually pushing folks to find out more.
For example, Rabbids Go Home was featured on the show a couple of weeks ago. How long was its segment? 60 seconds!
If this program is meant for those who do not visit these types of sites, then how effective is a minute long product description in enticing a consumer into a $50 purchase?
That style may work for a title repeatedly talked about over a period of time, but only Nintendo games are granted that on the show (i.e., NSMB Wii talk three episodes in a row).
I do not mind the silliness and fun factor of the show, but I think it is a disservice to consumers new and old that such limited information and gameplay footage is shared on the show. #reggiefilsaime
@GohanGVO: welp, whateva, I respect that that is your opinion and your reasoning does make sense - I merely happen to think other explanations make more sense =)
Bought the first Sin & Punishmenton the VC and it's awesome.. but very, very niche. Damn, it's platform/schmup/light gun hybrid! Not to mention the Evangelion like story which I could never understand.
I doubt the second one will have good sales.. #reggiefilsaime
Reggie, if you guys would quit pumping out this shovelware bullshit and start focusing on some REAL games ... I'd gladly buy a lot more games for my Wii. As it stands, I only own the cream of the crop ... which sadly isn't that many titles. My 360 and PS2 collection completely dwarfs my Wii collection. Hell, even my GameCube and DS collection is a lot larger than my Wii collection. I hate to be a hater, but goddamn Nintendo ... you guys are dropping the ball with the Wii. Start focusing on the A list titles again, and forget these damn casual gamers that you seem to love so freaking much.
FOCUS ON THE HARDCORE GAMER NINTENDO FORGET THE FUCKING CASUAL GAMERS THAT HOW YOU MAKE MORE SALES btw just release earthbound on vc already god #reggiefilsaime
@(Starman) Starman: cant unfortunately. back then no one cared that it had various song and pop culture pariodies. now they'd be sue happy. so because of those songs its a no go :( #reggiefilsaime
@Demonbird: Try 90%. Sighs, boredom, looking at the clock, statistics, more boring, then one moment of childlike glee, then boredom again with a sigh and then proceed to look at how the boards lit up with trolls saying nintendo was worse than last year and fan boys turning around talking about how that one coolish game is better than anything else announced.
Then wait for Microsoft or Sony depending on if Sony goes last again of the big three and either get to take a gander at vXIII or Resistance 3 or Dark Cloud 3 or...I'unno stuff that'll look cool but then will be slightly underwhelming when they bring out PS One Eyed Wand despite launching to less than stellar sales and statistics and stuff.
Microsoft will try to be the cool kid again. Gnarly. Radical. #reggiefilsaime
And then watch Wii vitality sensor become the new Wii fit and sell 20 million plus, face it, Nintendo is less concerned with whether it makes the hardcore happy or not, since you will buy the system for Mario and Zelda and Metroid, they want the other people #reggiefilsaime
@Avinash_Tyagi: -but I don't buy the system for Mario, Zelda, and Metroid because I don't buy Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Hell, the only reason I have a Wii is for those quirky as hell Japanese games and Monster Hunter Tri. #reggiefilsaime
Fire Emblem is a game people can play on their DS with very little difference in gameplay. And the early GBA fire emblems sold me on their AMAZING sprite animation, something completely lost when they did the newest DS version.
As for Batallion Wars, I found the first one to be atrocious. Completely unplayable as a shooter, and too convoluted to work as a strategy game. It took the worst elements of both worlds, glued them together haphazardly, then required more complicated interaction than they afforded the user to be able to accomplish. I am sure I am not alone on this one. #reggiefilsaime
I like the shorter hype cycles... after all, who's sick of
"We've got an idea for the best game ever!"
... 3 months pass
"our game will be awesome!"
... a year passes
"look - you can run around... and jump... it's going to be great!"
... a year passes. Select outlets can play a preview copy.
... a month passes, everyone's seen the game, but still can't buy it.
...3 months pass
"We waited that long for THIS?"
I kind of prefer
"Hey, we were also working on this game you've never heard of, and in a month or two, it's all yours!" #reggiefilsaime
@fuchikoma: I agree. Some hype cycles are so long that I lose interest eventually and don't even buy the game.
And while they're working on that, maybe they can do something about announcements for announcements. I get the marketing strategy going on there...but c'mon! #reggiefilsaime
@njd09: Then it still isn't worth it, but just less disappointing. The excessive hype cycle benefits no one. The game would be even better without the hype.
I am going to say that I have never seen a highly hyped game that has merited its hype. Not that they haven't been good, but always a let down. Smash Bros Brawl, Brutal Legend, Mirror's Edge... all gave me 'I waited this long for THIS', even though I liked 1.5 of those games :) #reggiefilsaime
@njd09: I loved GTA4... but I had to take a break for a couple weeks before I started playing it because I was so utterly sick of seeing it everywhere I went.
Also, it's hard to live up to the hype you can make up in your own mind... so the more excited you are for a game, usually the more disappointed you will be... #reggiefilsaime
@The Cap'n: I guess it depends. Gears of War was a game that delivered on the hype and so much more for me, but I actually can't think of any other examples. #reggiefilsaime
Nintendo has a problem that will grow in the next few years which is the fact that most casual gamers don't care to upgrade their systems from one generation to the next. Plus, they often don't more games than whatever came packaged with the system. #reggiefilsaime
Do LOTS of promotions for No More Heroes 2. The first NMH had 0 promotion outside of Japan(ironically it sold better in other regions, hence we have #2) and it's pretty much the 1st big game of '10 for the Wii. Commercials, ads, whatever. Enough going after the casuals and start bring in the hardcore crowd. #reggiefilsaime
@Blue_Bomber88: I think Tatsu V. Capcom is going to beat it out of the gate. And that's a game that I think has a better chance of success between online multiplayer, characters recognized by the mainstream and an easy 'pick up and start making million hit combos right away' battle system.
No More Heroes has reached the height of its popularity. I loved the game, but I don't think 2 is going to sell significantly more than 1. Faster? No doubt. #reggiefilsaime
It's a shame. I finished Sin and Punishment 2 in Japanese, and it's really spectacular.
It's gonna sell awfully, despite being an amazingly improved sequel and fantastic game overall, while something as unoriginal as MW2 sells x1000 more copies. #reggiefilsaime

to NOT be those media outlets!
it's designed to be cute, fun, funny, silly and informative on only the most surface level.
it's to inform the millions of gamers that do NOT frequent sites like these.
keep in mind, we're the minority, even among what you might consider "the hardcore" ( *shudder* ) #reggiefilsaime
