Cue scratched heads and pointed fingers. Today, we hear that it's all just a misunderstanding, as Sony say their latest firmware update created a problem or two with the game, which is why it had to be taken down. It will be back, however, the company promising that they're "working diligently to get this back up on the PlayStation Store". What they can't say (or won't say) is how long until it'll be back, or just what those issues were, or what those issues mean to people who already own the game.

<![CDATA[What Are You Playing This Weekend?]]> You'd think that playing brand spankin' new Capcom games for hours yesterday, amid a sea of heavy hors d'oeuvres and free drinks, that I'd somehow tire from the videogame exposure. Wrong! Not only did this editor get the 10:30 PM flight back to Los Angeles in the nick of time, but he braved the slow-as-molasses PlayStation Network download speeds to get his hands on Mortal Kombat II. Then I played until 2 AM.

I'll write more about all that Capcom business later (think 5 PM Pacific Standard Time), but right now I'm gonna talk about games. This weekend's games, to be precise. In addition to schooling anonymous chumps with my Liu Kang skills, I'm going to take advantage of my free mornings to play some Super Paper Mario. That is, if I can steal away the Wii-mote from my Godfather obsessed roommate.

Other than that, it's party time. I hope everyone has a good weekend and that when they're not seeing Grindhouse at the theatre (ahem!), they're getting their game on. Now let's make with the game lists people!

<![CDATA[Mortal Kombat II For PS3 This Week]]> This Thursday's PlayStation Store update will feature at least one new game, Sony Online Entertainment's port of the Midway fighter Mortal Kombat II. For $4.99, PLAYSTATION 3 owners can rip eachothers spines out online via the PlayStation Network and keep track of their fighting skills courtesy of the game's online leaderboards.

I'm putting funds in my wallet, like, yesterday for this one.

<![CDATA[Mortal Kombat II For PS3 Next Month]]> It looks like Midway's 1993 arcade hit Mortal Kombat II will be the first of six Sony Online Entertainment published titles to hit the PLAYSTAITON 3 when it makes its debut on the PlayStation Store in March. The remaining titles, including Gauntlet II, Joust, Rampage World Tour, Rampart and Championship Sprint all still have "to be announced" release dates.

Development duties are, of course, being handled by retro masters Digital Eclipse and gamers looking to relive the fatality filled classic need only drop $4.99 the online-play enabled 2D fighter.

I'm so in for this. Anyone else?

Sony and Midway today announced that six Midway downloadable titles are coming to the Playstation Network.

Mortal Kombat II, Guantlet II, Joust, Rampage World Tour, Rampart and Championship Sprint were all hand selected because of their multiplayer capabilities, according to the release.

"We knew these titles would be a perfect fit for the PLAYSTATION Network, and based on Sony Online Entertainment's legacy in the online space as well as their intimate knowledge of the PLAYSTATION Network, it was an obvious decision they would be a top company to work with to bring this project to fruition," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. ... "This is a great opportunity for SOE and Midway to come together to bring these arcade treasures to the next-generation of gaming on the PLAYSTATION 3," said John Needham, Sr. Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sony Online Entertainment. "SOE will continue to explore additional opportunities to bring fun and unique digital content to the PLAYSTATION Network."

It's nice to see that things are starting to move over at the Playstation Store, it was getting a little stagnant over there.

Sony Online Entertainment, (SOE) a global leader in the online gaming industry, announced that it has licensed the rights from Midway Home Entertainment Inc., a leading interactive entertainment industry publisher and developer, to develop and release six classic Midway games for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. The games will be available for digital download through the PLAYSTATION Network; with the first game being available in early 2007.

The six downloadable titles are: Mortal Kombat II, Gauntlet II, Joust , Rampage World Tour , Rampart and Championship Sprint . Each title was specifically chosen because of its multiplayer capability, allowing players to experience each of these classics with their friends in the comfort of their own living room, or anywhere else through an internet connection. All of the titles will be offered for PLAYSTATION 3 system download exclusively through the PLAYSTATION Network.

In addition to its work on the development of the PLAYSTATION Network, SOE released a PLAYSTATION 3 launch title, Untold Legends Dark Kingdom , in November of 2006.
