Week in Games: Mario Party 8 Edition

As I depart the Big Apple (where I've been reporting from all weekend) I leave you with this list of games coming out this week. Mario Party looks like it might be some fun with the addition of the Wii remote mechanic and I'd like to see how the 2d to 3d Crush is for the PSP. Other than that, I can satisfy myself with finishing up Silent Hill 2 which for some reason I decided to haul out of the mothballs. Anyone going to round out a holiday weekend by picking one or two of these up? More »

Mortal Kombat Gets Serious

In a new interview with Midway's Ed Boon, the Mortal Kombat creator speaks again on the next version of the long-running fighting game. Although the series has undergone a host of massive changes—from 2D to 3D, from hand-to-hand to weapons-based—Boon says we can expect even bigger changes for the successor to last year's Mortal Kombat Armageddon. The video stems from a GameSpot interview with Boon, who goes into details about the Wii port's controls, lack of multi-player support (boo!), and the super special exclusive game mode, Endurance, which acts like your standard survival mode, only...okay, it's pretty much your standard survivor mode. The newest trailer for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is everything you've come to expect from this crotch-grabbing dynasty. I'm not sure it's scientifically possible to fit more fan service in the same amount of time. More »

Mortal Kombat's New Finishing Move: the Nintendo Wii

Thought the Wii was going to be chalk-a-block with "non-games" that only Japanese housewives enjoy? Oh, no, no. To appease thirteen year-olds and man children like Florian, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is going to be ripping spinal chords out on the Wii. The game is heading to the console sometime during first quarter 2007. Cannot wait to see exactly how finishing moves like pulling out an opponent's beating heart will work with the Wii-mote. More »

More Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Details.

Last week we reported on the rumor that Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was going to feature a whopping 60 characters. This week Gamespot has the official word on the game. Not only will it feature more than 60 playable characters, it will also let you create your own fighters with a Create-A-Kombatant option which lets you pick out moves, clothing and the look of your character. Gamespot says that the fatality system will be "reinvented" and that midair combos and directional throws will be included. The game is scheduled to hit the Xbox and PS2 in October. More »
