Maybe the person who added this blog should do some basic research. They ASSUME it will be the Master System version. There was a Master System version, a Genesis version, and a arcade version.
I had no idea there was a Sega Master System version of this, but after looking at YouTube videos it actually looks a lot like the Genesis version.
I'm a little surprised that they'd rerelease this since Sega didn't acknowledge the game for the longest time after its release. I guess publicity changes things... #virtualconsole
Wow are they really thing about putting a "T" rating on this game? If this is considered "T for violence" what's considered a "E" game? #virtualconsole
@Kaquin: Really, what the hell? I just... come on. Killing evil poodles by dancing in sync with them doesn't make this a child-unfriendly game. #virtualconsole
@Kobun:
Actually, the platform hasn't been confirmed for the VC release. Given what VC already supports, it could be arcade, Commodore 64 (unlikely, since Sega is noted as the publisher for the VC release), Master System, or Genesis. #virtualconsole
@N●Gage Croal: Whoops. The first sentence of the post reads as if it's the SMS version we're getting. Sega's always seemed hesitant on porting the arcade game, so it's probably most likely to be the Genesis game. #virtualconsole
@eyeshield: I think the Genesis game needed some randomization in the Katy placement to keep things interesting. That and a revamped fighting system would have made it an excellent game. Remember though that this was 1990, and the game was pretty consistent with what was out at the time.
@commathe: Countless millions of sites on the internet. More info than any one person could digest in a lifetime. And yet, despite all of this, you stick around this ONE site to bitch about how it doesn't cater to your specific expectations as to how Kotaku should run their blog.
@ShaggE wants to join the Egg Council.: I actually thought a site about videogame news would be one place where I wouldnt have to read about michael jackson. Thanks for creating your own scenario in which this all occurred though!
@vid3oman64: That guy is a moron who has made a career of sorts out of just being a douchebag spouting off on games he knows little about or at the very least fails to understand the frame of reference when a game was launched. While the Genesis version of Moonwalker cannot compare to the excellent arcade game, it's still a decent platformer that showcased some very good graphics and music for the time. I tend to think Sega went with a different route on the Genesis game in part to extend the length of the game for a home version and avoid certain criticisms leveled at Altered Beast for its length.
I played Space Channel 5 Part 2 the night I heard he died, more specifically report 4, which is indisputably the most Michael Jacksony level in the series.
Now that he's dead, spill all the beans, everyone! That way you can make more attention and money... and he can pay his debts from where he is now.
Or maybe he already paid.. since all his albuns are getting sold out and on top of amazon's list I heard that in 24 hours it sold more than 11 years on amazon.
-_- so he didn't need a worldwide tour... just needed to die, to get the cash. Sigh.
@Man in the mirror: Well, the world tour was estimated to bring in over $400 million. (Damn you, news channels! I can't find the source of the info, but I recall this to be true over news sources from Tv.)
Now that he is gone, he will make more being dead than if he was alive. Most likely, his debts might be able to be paid off.
But the truth is, that, no amount of money can really bring the man back. As long as there is enough for a proper funeral, and memorial, and even perhaps making Never Neverland something of a memorial also, then that is the least I would hope for.
It would be fantastic if Rock Band and Guitar Hero could put together track-packs of some of his hits and/or Jackson 5 hits for the games. They could even donate his share of the proceeds to Jackson's charitable foundation. I'm surprised MJ, a big video game fan, wasn't pushing harder to get involved with those games while he was alive. Maybe he was and the developers foresaw controversy?
@EtisArap: I remember it being amazing in the arcade. Spent so many quarters on that. It was fun and that's all that really mattered to me back then... now I'm old enough to realize I shouldn't have been haven fun but rather criticizing it's design choices and "story" points :)
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): I was too young to remember if it sucked, but I can remember monkeys coming on the screen at some point. Man it was fun to hit a button and make all the enemies dance with you and then evaporate.
@Pitchswitch: When you held down the fire button and he would charge up a power shot with the lighting ball growing on the one had that hit held up... moving the stick to control where he shot it give me the sense I was wielding a lot of power. Good times :)

The Doors? You mean that godawful band with drunken hack lyrics sung over shitty circus music?

I saw a previous article about MJ, I don't recall who wrote it, but in that article, Moonwalker was mentioned in a positive light.
I saw gameplay footage of that game. Sure, it was the AVGN, but the game still looked....
not positive.

Last I checked it was some 24k seeders with 14k leechers.
