They have to add voice chat if they want me to buy it. That is one of the biggest reasons I don't play my Wii games online. So few of them support something as simple and vital as voice chat. I'm really excited for this game. But it would so suffer without the ability to just chat it up with my fellow gamers.
Contemplating voice chat? ANd people wonder why the Japanese influence is dying, get with the freaking times! This should be on the 360 where voice chat is the norm. How can you play a game like this properly without it?
@GtheMVP99:
It works surprisingly fine on the PSP without it playing online via Adhoc party or Xlink. You can generally type out quick messages while you're regrouping but that's really all you need.
People generally know what to do in MH without having to communicate. If they don't then you should just leave them behind.
@chikarachi: Do they no longer teach proper typing in schools? Forget that, are people so lazy that even with self-spell checking browsers that they can't hammer out full words?
@Mihos: Sadly I must agree. This game will only suffer on the wii with its annoying friend codes and wii speak. The 360 or PS3 are far better suited for this type of game and ill take the upgraded storage capacity, graphics, power, and all that jazz over motion controls when it comes to this.
@Mihos: Yeah. Too bad it's on the console with the largest install base out of the 3 huh? What kind of crazy business move is that? I don't know who the tits these capcom upstarts think they are but they'll never succeed in the videogame industry with crazy ideas like this.
@King_Krunk: your opinion is at least partially invalid. This game does not use motion controls, would not (as far as I know) benefit from increased storage, and has exceptional 'graphics and power' from what I've seen so far.
@reverend_green: I mean storage space on the disk. It should benefit from the the increased storage because they would be able to fit more stuff into the game.
If it doesnt use motion controls I wasn't aware, my mistake.
And yes the graphics may be nice but you cant say they wouldnt be better on another console. Its not that big of a deal it just furthers the point I was making.
@King_Krunk: The Wii uses media format disks that are equal to a point right up to the format the 360 uses. Please research your talking points better before going 'omg the 360/PS3 are teh better suited, the Wii disks are too small'
@Mihos: Who the heck promoted your silly statement?
@GeneralFBDZ: Actually even though Wii has the largest install base, many companies have been losing money on the Wii. People with Wii's buy specific types of games. Mostly stuff like Wii Sports. Although Wii has a lot of cool stuff like Mad World and Monster Hunter, most people that have the Wii treat it like a board game, something to play when non-gamers show up. I forgot the point I was trying to make. I like Monster Hunter. Uh... I like turtles.....
Are friend codes really that bothersome to people? You put them in once and you don't have to care anymore. Honestly, the system isn't that cumbersome to bash it every time it gets brought up, especially if it results in no fee for us.
@UltimoCamdawg: The thing is, the friend code system isn't the reason why it's free in the first place. PSN and PC gaming are completely free and they don't have to deal with cumbersome friend codes.
Are they a HUGE deal? No. Are people blowing it out of proportion? Probably. Still, it's an unnecessary nuisance that everybody would prefer not to deal with, especially since practically every other online gaming service just has nicknames and that's it. The extra layer of tediousness, though admittedly small, is still tedious.
****IN' FAMILY VALUES MOTHER****ERS. Ruining the Wii for us. IP addresses were easier than friend codes for christs sake, because at least the IP address didn't change game by game.
At first I thought it was a nintendo thing, being family friendly. No. It was Nintendo localizing hardware to account for the loud, ignorant, and never pleased "protect the children" crowd.
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: Thats not true. High Voltage Software (The Conduit) were very vocal about not wanting to implement FCs in their game. They ended up having them because they had no other choice.
In the US at least, friend code implementation is not an option.
@Alex_Mexico: This is not true. There are US released Wii Games that do not use friend codes. HVS must have not spoken to the right people at Nintendo.
I'd rather pay a fee than deal with Friend Codes in Monster Hunter. How are you supposed to enter a random town and play with pubbies if there are friend code limits in place? How stupid.
@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Perhaps you would play with random people the way you do in virtually EVERY OTHER online Wii game, pick the option to play with random people and then enjoy the game.
Friend codes are only required if you want to play with a specific person, then you swap them just like you would any other user tag.

If I have to deal with friend codes but don't have to pay a monthly fee and they add voice chat, I'm ok with that.
Monthly fee and lack of voice, though? That's a no-go for me. Even Phantasy Star had voice, no reason Monster Hunter shouldn't. I can get the Logitech Wii keyboard for a reasonable price, but there's no reason to go back to that when the Wii has a means for supporting voice.
