@Friedhamster: Unfortunately yes. It's $25 a yr. I just look at it like a electronic magazine subscription. Hell I got High Velocity Bowling with it which cost $10 separately. It's not bad for the price but it's not for everybody.
@Demonbird: I'm PRETTY sure they never included the beta code to get people to buy the same game twice. If you already have LBP the GOTY edition is clearly not for you. This is merely an extra to sweeten the deal for those who don't have the game already.
Just hope the racing gameplay aspect is fun and has a nice feel. The only reason I got tired of Mario Kart is that I got bored with the tracks. Majorly looking forward to this!
The E3 demonstration I saw didn't leave me too impressed. The character and car customization seemed on point but the track design seemed like it was just allowing you to slap different coats of paint and static non functioning objects onto a generic winding track.
They need to up the ante on customizable game rules, like maybe demolition derby and drift modes. Or even a straight up battle mode like Twisted Metal (even Mario Kart had that).
So far they just keep showing a generic race mode and there's not much replayability in that if you are restricted to generic track runs.
@BallPtPenTheif: not sure what game you were looking at because I saw a demo that allowed you to start literally from scratch...blank canvas, and design the layout, twists, turns, hills, dips, the whole nine...
@BallPtPenTheif: really? you dont want to play a racing game where you race? thats the basis of all racing games. who would want a racing game where the main mode is not racing?
what do you mean a generic winding track? the whole point of this game is customization. there are tons of items, traps, jumps, boosts, etc.
and as for replayability... an infinite number of cars/tracks/characters makes for nothing but replay.
you really need to watch some more videos or something cause you have no idea what youre talking about.
If the game is touting itself as a race car equivalent of LBP then I want more than doing laps on a track. Like I said, even Mario Kart had more modes than that and they will have to hit a Mario Kart level of fun factor if they want this to work.
@fozfan33: The majority of LBP levels would have to disagree with you. Thankfully the dynamics of LBP are fun in of themselves so navigating a shitty broken level with nothing but a six pack and your wits has it's own rewards.
In this game though, a shit level will be an oval. So expect a bunch of published ovals just so people can earn arbitrary trophies.
@-MasterDex-: You mean that Sony is pushing game creating games hoping that it'll take off on consoles and that they'll be the biggest destination for users that want game making games.
Here's to hoping Level 5 creates Dark Cloud: Steam Clock Universe Tock.
@-MasterDex-: this game has great potential... I love Mario Kart, but it has not really evolved at all since Mariokart 64...
this game has everything Mariokart has by the looks of it, plus far more... the replay value on this game will definitely make it worth a purchase for me! hope to see more about this game would like it to be received well
@shadysaiyan: I don't think tracks are easy to design by standard. Just take a look at F1's new Dubai track, it's boring. And that costed over $1 billion to build.
It's clear from the videos that this game is only 30fps with even some dips below that. Mario Kart is 60fps for a reason: responsiveness is key for racing games.
I've been watching this for a while both on here and on Home. The more I see the more intrigued I am, but like the author here, I am more interested in the design aspects than the actual racing, but I am sure the actual racing will be everything it looks like - Mario Kart without Mario...but I am fine with that!
