Does the fact that a game plays on a system you don't own somehow impact the enjoyment you derive from playing it on a system you do own?
11/27/09
It was more from an organisational point of view rather than a gaming(?) view. I mean reading this after reading the 360 article was just like trying to play spot the difference.
11/27/09
I prefer a thorough guide over a "for more gifts options, look into this other guide we made.

(And to check if Katamari was on here).

And if your reading VEX i dont only love the 360, i have love for all of satans creatures, even the craptastic ps3.
And before some smart ass PS3 fanboy "VEX" tells me how wrong I am and that the PS3 is the best system since jesus juice 2400, It's my opinion and I have the right to talk and look stupid.
BURN..

..anyway. Dropped out on the list:
-WipeoutHD (for any racing fan).
-Valkyria Chronicles (for soppy anime fans)
-Heavenly Sword (for people who like samurai flicks)
-Mirror's Edge (for people who want to play a game where you're not murdering people for rewards).
..also:
-Demon's Souls
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-flOw
-The Last Guy

See i like people like you, not trying to bite my head off because I dislike ps3.
And yes I'll agree Valkyria, and Mirrors Edge had someone points to them. But I can get mirrors edge on the xbox aswell.
In my post I was mainly referring to games that the ps3 had, that you couldnt get on the xbox.
I'll also add resistance 1&2 i enjoyed them, I also enjoyed Killzone 1, but hated 2.

Disgea 3,
Pixel Junk Shooter/Monsters/Eden
Flower
Super Stardust HD
Buzz Quiz TV
Buzz Quiz World
Singstar (any release you like!)
God Of War Collection
LittleBigPlanet
BlazBlue
plenty of decent exclusives to choose from :-)

:) and Mirror's Edge is a good game, so it's great more people can play it. Good writing that translated well... for the most part.. into a game. Rhianna Pratchett did well on that one.
But it's a bit strange - if there were only ps3 games on the list, people would be complaining about how it was too much about the ps3. If there were only multiplatforms, people would be complaining that there was no point to having the ps3 in the first place.
..I think the list is a good attempt to promote games that are safe buyers. Book-reviews do this kind of thing all the time. And there are a few very hyped games that are pretty good, but end up having framerate or filtering problems. Or that have gameplay quirks that make it just a bad console-game. So it's a good, well thought through list... apart from not having Flower and Pixeljunk Eden on it. And too many Modern Warfare things. But hey..

...*urm* it will be 2015 before they release officially in all SCEE territories anyway.. ..actually..wait.. Flower and WipeoutHD Fury was 2009. Pixeljunk Eden got an upgrade as well. The Last Guy, 2009 release in EU. :p Demon's Souls..

Give them some slack guys :/

Demon's Souls also needed a review to get the word out on it a hell of a lot more than a lot of the recent releases. All in all I'm pretty damned disappointed with this whole thing.
11/28/09
And they can edit the list once it gets reviewed... I'm sure we'll all look back on this and laugh.
11/28/09
My complaint wasn't just that it isn't on this list, which I know will be edited to fit it in eventually, it's that the game has been out for quite a while now and the review still isn't done. For a game that's fairly unknown that's a real shame.

If the list is intended as a general "is it good or not" sort of guide, there's no reason not to add everything you reviewed eventually, right? Will this guide be reposted periodically as it's updated?
11/26/09
And we will be reviewing Demon Soul.
11/26/09
11/26/09
I'm fine with Kotaku wanting to have their own reviews done before including the game in a list like this. And in the case of a game like Demon's Souls which is both long and very hard (innuendo!) it's perfectly understandable that one of the writers hasn't completed the game in the middle of this busy reviews season. But the Buyer's guide (and this is the first one that I've done anything more than quickly skim through) seems to be more of a round-up of Kotaku's 2009 PS3 reviews, which doesn't really work as a guide for which games to buy.
As well as strange inclusions like G.I. Joe and Modern Warfare 2 themed accessories there are two basketball games, two football (soccer) games and two American football games where I think that just one recommendation for each sport would suffice. And when you compare these titles to some games that are missing from the list but are generally considered highly recommendable, such as MLB 09: The Show and Blazblue (which even has a review [kotaku.com] ) the buyer's guide seems kind of unreliable. If some unreviewed titles at least got a mention it would clear things up a lot more.
And that's pretty much it, I didn't mean for it to go on and hopefully I'm not permanently bannned so I don't have to get used to a new username.
11/26/09
If you had read it, you would have seen this:
Remember, the games listed aren't all recommendations. Instead we're providing this as a quick reference guide to help you decide if a game is a good gift or not.
I'm not sure why so many people have decided to fore go the commenting rules today.
Read a post before you comment, stay on topic.
You're not guilty of this, but people who are dropping in comments like "you didn't include this so you were paid off or aren't doing your job" are really begging for a banning.
11/26/09
Well here goes:
"What is yours? Anything we didn't review that you would suggest?"
And to be perfectly honest it has taken you guys nearly two months to play and review the game. And you guys have opened the lists with 50 Cent.
The general expectation of a gift guide is:
These things are good, buy them for people.
You could silence most people about Demon Souls by just posting a picture, and a brief blurb underneath that could just be "cos most folks on this site recommend it, and the Kotaku masses tend to be a good compass"
But you seem to have limited yourself to only having games you lot have done a full fleshed review for.
Just take a bit of criticism every now n then. Kotaku is great, but its not perfect, commenters just letting you know. We like the site, want it to keep on improving. And folks are just suggesting that your guides are a bit lacking in the good stuff. You've already added SFIV, AA n RE5 I see.
Just you seem to have gotten notably more relaxed with swinging your ban hammer around the past month-ish. I guess it could be in response to the glitch that means Stars can give full accounts, but would it not be better to get Gawker IT to fix the glitch?
(however I'm willing to accept that Katanabobcat may of made a really trolling comment deserving of a good whacking, but I'm gonna guess no as you've re-approved his account within a few hours)
11/26/09
I understand people being confused if the purpose of this guide wasn't so blatantly spelled out for people in the first three paragraphs.
If people want a site where they can jump in and start commenting without bothering to take the time to read the post, they should probably go elsewhere.

@MrBounce: Conversely, I feel sorry for you because you make presumptions in order to disagree.
@Kyoya: No, I'm talking about the fact that there are just plain too damned many multiplatform games. They need a severe culling.
How much would you really need to change to make this a 360 list?
11/26/09
That said, I see why people would want more exclusives. Uncharted, Killzone and God of War: Collection are fantastic titles in part because they are exclusive.
11/26/09
11/26/09
This is a very good guide, but just didn't help ME much because I've played or own most of these games on xbox already, but I'm still getting the PS3 tommorow don't get me wrong
11/26/09
That's even worse than what I original thought your statement meant... (that you were on the verge of giving up gaming because there are so many multiplatform games).
Even if it was a sarcastic / over-the-top comment, it still doesn't really makes sense in the context of simply wanting more exclusives for each system (of which I can see both pro's and con's of).

Street Fighter 4?
Resident Evil 5?
Demon's Souls?
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2?
All came out this year... If anything I would have expected to have KZ2, Demon's Souls, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on there........... Unless there's a part two to this.
