The games are pretty good quality but i do hope that the series levels out now and the insane populairty dies off. CoD being such a dominant force in the market place is not to my liking because it just influences other devs to create more mediocre shooters. I'm more of a RPG and platofrmer guy myself and this gen has been such a let down due to the enormous increase in shooters. I can't even bring myself to enjoy Borderlands because it is still just a shooter underneath.

@Pyrefly: i would hardly call MW2 a mediocre shooter dude. Bordelands on the other hand IS mediocre..its not the best rpg ive played..but its got nothing to do with MW2 or other shooters influencing it..its down to the developers not making a great game. play fallout 3..thats a great game and its an rpg shooter. even bioshock. 2 brilliant games that you could technically play forever.

    anyway.thats about it. peace.

    It's not surprising.

The series always has been a favorite of the Avid FPS gamer. Ever since the Original back in 2003.

But the gateway game for the series to the majority of players Was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. As a long time fan i was skeptical if it would do well since the series has always been a historical shooter. While i was greatly impressed with it, i still chart Call of Duty 2 as my all time favorite FPS.

I'm also proud to say that i'm not what some people on the net would call a Modern Fanboy, as they will only play 4 or Modern Warfare 2 and will denounce the rest of the series as "Generic WWII shooter garbage" without even playing it.

I've pretty much bought even Call of Duty game made, even the horrible PSP one, because i love this series whether it be set during the greatest conflict in Human history, or be a fictional war set next sunday A.D.

@Blastarr: I remember when CoD2, I believe, hit the Xbox 360. There were lines of people waiting to play in my local Best Buy. I recall being utterly blown away with how it looked.

Now I see Modern Warfare 2 and can't even begin to think what my children will be playing.

Should prove an interesting place, the world, in a few more years.

@Blastarr: I'm part of the group that even after playing 2, 4, and WaW, I consider the whole series to be generic shooter garbage. WWII or Modern.

There is no way that a soldier carrying only a pistol and a knife runs the same speed as one carrying a machine gun, 2 grenades, a rocket launcher, some C4, a sofa, and the groceries.

Everyone talks about how realistic it is but they are ignoring major points.
-You get shot? You will be better in about 20 seconds if you hide in that corner over there.(Who needs medics?)

-Hey lets call in a airstrike (AND NO ONE ON YOU TEAM DIES FROM FRIENDLY FIRE!!!YAY!)

-The worst comes from CoD MW2. Tactical Nukes. WHAT THE F*CK.

We've had Flower, Braid, the whole Wii system, Demon Souls, Mirror's Edge, and many others in the past few years.

I don't think we're going to see nothing but Halo's and MW2's on the shelves any time soon, or at all. Not when Assassin's Creed 2 sells as well as it has been.

Make great games. Make them in a timely manner. Watch the money roll in.

Square-Enix and Capcom, take note. You're making great games, but you're missing the second part. People want quality AND quantity.

@AncientUnknown1: I'm of the opinion that there can't be quality and quantity. The more games that are made means less time given to each individual game. If sequels are released too quickly, such as annual sequels, then there aren't going to be significant changes between releases. It's one or the other.

Unless the developers had something like an unlimited budget and manpower. But that's like turning on infinite money and fast build in an RTS; it's cheating.

@Leanid: Even with unlimited capital grrrrreat games still take time. Gran Turismo is a prime example. But I agree quality and quantity don't work together in my opinion. Granted the man power is the limit for the new GT title.

Time makes great games. The more you have the better the game should be. At least that's how I look at the gaming industry. COD: MW2 could have been so much better if they took an extra year. Sure you can say that about almost every game but when you release a game running on the same engine as the previous iteration from 2 years ago it just looks cheap and inferior to almost everything else on the market as far as visuals go. COD's game play is awesome though I have to give it that. Personally I won't drop a dime on MW2 until it drops in price regardless of how good the online is the rest of the game is mediocre at best IMO. More time and this years COD could have been one of the greatest games of all time such as COD4 MW was MW2 didn't have half of the "OMG WTF JUST HAPPENED THIS LOOKS AMAZING " the first one had.

@AncientUnknown1: I can understand Square Enix, but why Capcom? They already released multiple sequels to the most popularity games they made last gen and several great games we didn't see previously.

They released DMC4, RE5, SF4, SSF4, Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and etc. I would say Capcom is working at the same pace they've always have.

@AncientUnknown1: Er, you're only counting by RE releases?

Well, if you're only going to do that, then yes, Capcom is slower...especially since RE is no longer in the prime of its life like in the PSX days.

However, it seems pretty silly to me to consider whether a company is slow or not based on how many installments they're releasing in one of their major franchises when the same company has been releasing multiple other games that are just as popularity, and sell just as well as that one franchise.

Unless the DLC is something really special i won't be touching it. After playing AC2 it's shown me that a sequel really can be better on a grand scale.

MW2 is good, but for all intents and purposes it is just CoD4 recycled. The new weapons are basically just reskinned versions of old weapons, the maps really aren't that great and hell wasteland is a direct rip of a CoD2 map! The gameplay hasn't really advanced and the although good the online system hasn't improved much at all. Considering the RRP in the UK was a colossal £55 i do honestly think that MW2 has been one of the least value for money games i have played this gen.

N+ (sure it's been out years but it's still one of the best games on the market and it never gets coverage)

Street Fighter IV was defo one of the better ones missing from the list. Other than that, I am struggling.

Still though, that's a rather impressive list of games (providing you pay out for xbox live, otherwise most of them are gonna be a big let down)
