oh and i believe this is true. one of my friends works for apple.. and we were talking about the apple store. he told me they were hiring because they needed to be ready for the new phone.
I'd rather have a good service than a good phone. If I could have both though I'd be very happy. Unfortunately Verizon seems to be allergic to good phones (although some of their latest stuff has been decent).
Well I hope firmware 3.0 comes out sooner. It could be out as soon as next week according to some sites and seeing that iTunes updated just days ago there is no reason Apple should wait to release the new firmware with the new hardware.
@xAngelGabrielx: I'm made slightly nervous by the close proximity of this and the Snow Leopard release. As with any new hyped release there are bound to be some glitches (the last I was really aware of was MobileMe, but it doesn't seem to have received too much negative press...possibly because it was aiming a bit too far ahead of the rabbit, and not enough people are, as of yet, in need of that kind of fluidity?), and while I imagine die-hard Apple fans will forgive them, a problematic OS release (not to say anything's intrinsically wrong with it; there are bound to be errors in needing of ironing out though) occurring at the same time as an iPhone chip upgrade that may or may not frost many recent (relatively speaking aren't they all?) iPhone owners might equal enough bad press to hurt Apple right when it's already waffling, stocks-wise, due to the health of Steve Jobs. I don't have much interest in picking sides, either in the console or pc wars, and duking it out. It seems to me though that variety and competition is what the gaming industry desperately needs--even if it's coming from a company not traditionally synonymous with gaming--and for Apple to risk so much this summer worries me, just from the gaming end. I'd prefer to see their gaming attempt thrive, and force everyone else to work harder making games we love.
Hah, really? Contacted Apple? All that's going to do is set them on a rabid goose chase to find out who the weasely little snitches are and prepare to sue the pants off of them.
So yeah, that's my way of saying good luck getting that confirmation guys.
@TheHeeyyy: i agree with this guy right here. i have an ipod touch, and although its nifty and neat.. after a few months.. i started using it for internet browsing (which i still praise it for) more than game playing.
add some buttons and ill replace my blackberry.. until then.. pass.
@Alternate, I cho-cho-chose the impossible: The iPhone is ARM based so the new chip could be an nVidia Tegra, which means it could actually have decent battery performance.
@sentroshi: All the hardware updates for the iPhone have been in unison with iPod touch, so I expect a new iPod touch to be announced as well. That is if this news is correct.
@Neurogasm: Well, I can't swear that there are any examples involving games, but they already do something similar in regards to iPhone & iPod Touch applications -- any app that makes use of the iPhone's microphone and/or camera is useless to Touch owners like me. Plus, what better way to encourage 1st & 2nd gen owners to upgrade than by rolling out next-gen games & apps that they won't otherwise be able to play?
As far as any fairness issue goes, is it any more unfair than the exact same kind of quick obsolescence that goes on with PC (and Mac) hardware/software? And frankly, comparing applications to MP3s is apples and oranges -- media files aren't programs, and vice versa.
Bottom line is, Apple's main goal is to Make More Money, not to help people continue to feel good about products they bought 1 or more years ago.
@-[[CHoZO]]-: I want to play games in school text books.

Wow! I guess with the way mobile phones are being built nowadays it's not much of a stretch to think they'll be nearing the DS and/or PSP's power in a few years.
Now I only played some crappy Java games on my phone before but the market sure looks to be there. They just need to be able to discern what it is people want.
Light development, low risk with a big healthy payoff.

In any case, I would hate for one device to do everything for me -- what it it were lost/destroyed/dropped in a puddle? How annoying would that be?

SUPER greedy.. even though i like the ipod touch. they need to come out with one device and stick with it for AT LEAST 4 years. wth.

Oh boy, I wish I could pay for overpriced electronics if it meant I'd fit in with fashionable types such as Justin Long.
Apple- You pay half for electronics, and half for the fashion statement.
