If you were to play with Natal while naked, would it mistake your penis for a pinky toe? Would it mistake my penis for a leg? Only time will tell. I await the day of it's release with bated breath.
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: Oh no...no no no...no...with the hips swinging and the pendulum and the stupid imagination not being occupied enough with work...oh god...I feel sick... :(
I've... never heard anyone else say this before. Ever. Not before today, not last year, not three years ago, not five, not ever. I guess they've finally lost it, since people are saying things like this now.
Man, I think this guy's found his niche. His games get a lot of guff, but it sounds like he's well on his way to making the very first "virtual best friend" or something crrepily realistic.
"Molyneux also talked about how the software could in theory track your daily Xbox 360 usage to help build out a conversation with you about your gaming habits. "
But..... but.... I already have my wife to tell me I've been playing too long and it's time to get my fat ass up and mow the grass!
I'm trying so hard to maintain my usual skepticism. I keep telling myself that Natal will be the latest in a long line of Power Glove-esque gimmick controllers.
But I can't help thinking about how great this could be if it lives up to the promises. If it does deliver, I'll be the first in line to nab it.
Also: Assuming Natal does turn out to be great... I'd *love* to see a realtime version of Toribash for it. :D
While the tech is cool and all, I;m just not that interested in this kind of experience. Give the tech to Bungie or cliffy B, or the Age of Empires dev, tell them to make some real game.
I do not think that Micrisofts first intention with this is to please his "hardcore" gamers, this will be an univetable fight with Nintendo for the casual audience and potential buyers.
But my prediction is: If its too expensive, its gonna fall, if not, we will ahev the best company war ever.
@Mactheridon: And while theyre doing that, sony will be using it's motion controls for the same kind of audience that buys most of their games, like a good developer. IF what you say is true about them moving towards the casual crowd, i think it may fail in sales, as the majority of the people who hate on the wii being too casual, are the xbox 360 owner base.
Starting to think they shouldn't have shown that live onstage brick-smasher thing that girl was doing. People are just looking at this as a Wiimote/PS3 dildocontroller minus the controller, when it should be looked at as something different. I'm not really interested in this for stuff like that onstage demo.
The racing game thing has me mildly interested and browsing the dashboard/menus with your hands is pretty cool, but the area with the most potential was shown with the Milo demo. Imagine a Mass Effect sequel where instead of the dialogue branches you are actually talking to the characters.
A few gimmicky motion control games are fine, but I hope they don't pigeonhole themselves into only that.
The one thing that will be unfortunate is for disabled people. Will they have a mode or way to recognize if a war veteran with a missing hand/arm, or a young girl bound to a wheel chair will be able to play with this as well?
@Go Go Gadget: Thugmunk: This will be huge for many disabled people. There are many types of limitations that can make fine motor control (a traditional controller) near impossible, but leave a person with pretty damned decent gross motor control (larger, more full bodied motions.)
We use the Wii at least 3 times a month where I work; in the physical therapy dept of a nursing home. Wii bowling was great! But very quickly we realized that only our highest functioning residents could use the controller effectively.
Then Wii Fit came around. Even better! Any resident who is able to stand, even those who need fairly extensive assistance to stand; can now go skiiing down a mountain side just by shifting their weight back and forth. That's an area we concentrate on anyway... in fact the Wii fit is an object we've used in therapy for years! But we call it a BAPS board. It was a great advance ten years ago when they added beepers to BAPS boards so a patient could hear when they were out of balance... now Wii Fit gives us visual feedback!
I can't wait to see if NATAL is going to offer us anything we can use. Wii bowling would have been perfect, were it not for the whole hold the trigger down thing. Many of our residents just don't have the fine motor skills needed, or some the mental acuity; but I'm betting most could just swing their arm.
Don't underestimate what controllerless controls can do for those with physical OR mental limitations! MS & Nintendo need to each get some physical and occupational therapists on their staffs and make a game geared towards rehab; ranging from intense to mini games suited to those with the most severe limitations. The Wii is practically standard equipment in many rehab and geriatric centers. It would sell hugely.
@thatcreepyguy: Well, they could, but then that would ENTIRELY miss the point of what theyre saying this project is. it's supposed to be a hands off experience, where you use nothing but your body and anatomy as a controller. if they decide that adding controllers is the only way to make this work, then i think it's safe to call it a fail.

Penny-Arcade isn't as funny as it used to be. Still, they've had a few good ones lately. This, sadly, wasn't one.
Oh well. At least they aren't Ctrl-Alt-Del or VGcats.

"Milo."
"Is that you, Heliophage? It's been a while."
"Yes, long day. I'm in the mood for something funny."
"Well, Netflix has a few comedies that have been user rated 4 stars or greater. Would any of those interest you?"
"Sure, sounds like a plan."
"Which one?"
"Surprise me."
