100,000 applications... it would be nice if even 10,000 were actually useful, unique and/or can't be done on the Safari App already.
hell, how about 1000 that are useful?
ugh. this isn't a "PRO" when listing iphone uses. its a complete negative. To think that Apple actually screens these shitty Apps for "quality" makes me laugh. #apple
I know there's a lot of haters out there, but I've been enjoying some real gems on my iPhone. HookChamp is awesome, Civilization Revolution is a decent port of an addictive game, and my old standby Wild West Pinball still gets played at least once a week. Yes there's a lot of crap, but there's enough good stuff that I don't bother taking my DS with me on anything other than long trips anymore. #apple
@RoboticSpacePenguin: I'm in the same boat as you. My DS and PSP were my main portable gaming devices. Now I have my iPod Touch (which is much nicer to carry around than both my PSP and DS). I'm glad I can download a handful of $1 apps and be set for a week or two. It's nice to be able to load up a game in a snap and play something for two minutes. #apple
I don't want to beat a dead horse but i don't think we should be classing the iPhone/Touch as a gaming device. I own a 3G and it just isn't designed for games nor does it really provide the potential for anything more than gimmicky mini games. If we class this as a games device then anything out there including other phones that play games should be brought up. #apple
@Pyrefly: I play solitaire and other games on my Nokia N95, and I also play games like Monkey Island, Civ Rev, Ronaldo and the likes on my wife's iPod touch... and I can tell you one thing.. playing games on the Nokia phone does not feel like playing games on the iPod touch. While the iPhone and iPod touch were never designed with games as their primary use, they have become one of the most popular and widely used platforms for portable gaming.
A lot of the games on the iPod touch feels more like a "solid gaming experience" than a lot of the crap for the DS and PSP. While there's no Final Fantasy, Zelda, Ratchet & Clank or Metroid for it, there are quite a few quality games and more coming at a production value that I've never seen on a phone or MP3 player before... if the droid gets the same level of quality games I say we should see coverage of that as well.... but so far I have not seen anything on the N95 that makes me feel like it's doubling as a gaming device.
iphone apps = "To many apps, where is the quality control?!"
Mac desktops/laptops= "Wheres all the software?! this lack of support sucks!!"

@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): *Pulls out a clipboard* Apple's official stance on whether or not the total number of apps is... Over Nine Thousand... has not yet been determined. Independent studies show that the number is, in fact...
... Over Nine Thousand.

@Daniel @ playreadwrite.blogspot.com: I used to be able to count above 8,999.
But the general scorn lead to me a great a fear of using any number above 8,999 #apple
@UnkleBuck: If you think it's bad now you should have seen the crap they used to do before the FTC jumped on them. All major publishers used to ship all product to retailer warehouses (for a fee) just so they could announce shipped numbers for their quarterly figures. It used to be industry standard. #apple
I've got to speak up a bit about this and many other stories popping up on Kotaku. I love Kotaku and the many varied voices of it's writers, but why, in a story about Battlefield Heroes, is there no external link to it's site?
This has been happening more and more lately and it would be nice if I didn't feel like all the links were just traps. They look like external links to the Battlefield website, or even a download page, but they're all internal links. Is this by design or just a fluke because it kind of sucks.
The more I play this game the more I love it. A fairly smooth experience and all for a price of $0. My only complaint with the game is what they are promoting. Sometimes it gets hard as hell when a pirate runs up to you and stabs you. With no "uniform" for the teams it gets a little hectic in there. But I guess thats why I keep coming back.
This game looks really, really good and i've had it in my favourites for quite a while now, but i can never find the time to play it >:(
judging by the amount of people on i'll have to find some time soon and give it a go though, even though i've never played a battlefield game before =/
Very good news that it reached 1,000,000 users though! =D
