He's Obama. If you believe anything that his teleprompter says then you might have been one of the many politically obtuse morons who actually voted for him.
Yeah for Hope! Yeah for Change! Yeah for Socialistic Government! Yeah for bankrupting America! Yeah for inflation! Yeah for ruining the Health care system! Yeah for making America weak and going on apologizing tours! Yeah for higher taxes! Yeah for hating America!!
Yeah(!) for spouting someone else's teleprompter babble and thinking it makes you sound more informed.
Bankrupting America is the Obama administrations fault how exactly?
That stimulus package was a response to an already bankrupt America (thank deregulation of private industry, lower taxes in the financial sector, predatory lending practices, Reagan's championing of supply side economics, and the two wars we've been ensconced in for the better part of the last decade).
What I love is that American people don't give a shit about government spending as long as the money is going towards killing nonwhites in some 3rd world country. Once we start talking about spending it on the poor and disenfranchised, suddenly we're socialists.
The country is fucked, so it must be the fault of the guy who's been in charge for the last five months. Duh! It couldn't be the unscrupulous criminals who were robbing the country blind for the last eight years while masquerading as a presidential administration, could it be?
Go back to watching Glen Beck with the rest of the uninformed idiots. At least he makes O'Reilly's act seem tame by comparison.

And Crecente's story that your are referencing for the Michael Gallager qoute? Yeah, that article was about the administrations stance on anti-gaming legislation in contrast to politicians like Hilary Clinton and Joe Leiberman:
The article is about legislation. What about Obama's AMA talk makes you think he's going to pass legislation against videogames? Nothing.
All he's doing is urging people to take responsibility for their own health before there are problems. He uses videogames as a cheap metaphor as part of one sentence of a speech that otherwise has nothing to do with gaming, and now you think it's OK to claim he's not gamer friendly?
Everytime I think your writing is improving you drop a bullshit article like this on Kotaku and make hardcore gamers look like knee-jerking reactionaries.
I think by reading the comments here you see how the Kotaku audience appreciates your cheap ploys at manufacturing an attention-grabbing headline.
It's in line with the worst kind of journalistic habits. Maybe you should see if Fox news needs a games analyst. They don't require integrity or an understanding of the general audeince, either.
I really don't think there's any malice here. It's true that kids these days are spending more and more time inside, online, and playing video games. When I was growing up, I'd get an hour, maybe two TOPS on my SNES before my parents booted me out into the yard to play with my brother. I may be skinny as a rail NOW after the real world crushed my dreams and broke my spirit, but growing up was different.
Obama's clearly gunning for people to return to a time like that, rather than letting cell phones, video games, and the internet run kids' lives like the do nowadays. Seriously, any parent who buys their kid a cell phone before they're 15 deserves a kick in the teeth.
We wont have a truly gamer friendly President for years. No one (99%) who is in that position of power right now has grown up with vidja games the way we have. Its become a part of our culture and its a relatively new one. It's just a lack of understanding/ignorance.
Um, what makes you think he wasn't interested in video games? He did grow up in the 80's. I highly doubt he never played a game of Pac Man or Donkey Kong.
I think the real truth is, no President has the time for video games.
Not only do they not have time to play video games, they really don't have time to focus on them as an issue. This is just Obama's standard call to action; a common sense plea for America's youth to exercise.
And every time he says it, gamers overreact and think the hammer is about to fall on their precious pastime.
It's not.
But seeing as how the US is one of the fattest countries in the world and heart disease and diabetes are so prevalent, perhaps we should stop our collective hyperventilating and get some fresh air.
as long as there's cheap Fast Food and non-physical entertainment of ANY KIND, we will have fat people. lets not blame video games. lets just say that "hey! that's life!"
in 50-60 years, everyone reading this will all be dead and your decisions, no matter what, will not matter.
The second step that we can all agree on is to invest more in preventive care so that we can avoid illness and disease in the first place. That starts with each of us taking more responsibility for our health and the health of our children. It means quitting smoking, going in for that mammogram or colon cancer screening. It means going for a run or hitting the gym, and raising our children to step away from the video games and spend more time playing outside.
In other words, to stop being inactive. It's not really a WAR ON DEM GEIMZ, but a call for kids in America to get more exercise.
And I'm all for it. Get the hell of the mic in TF2, you brats.
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: If you think it will stop at "Kids". I, personally, don't. If Obama was too pass his health care reform and give the Government more control over our health care, who is to say that he would not pay for coverage of Adults that play more then 2 hours of Video games a day?
Of course, some say I am taking this too far, but it isn't that far fetched. The government is already taking "Stock" in what people eat in Brittain, whos to say it won't happen in the US?
This comment is a perfect example of a media created misnomer. No one is working on health care reform. They're working on a health insurance reform.
Health insurance providers already have their long slimy tentacles in all of your medical decisions (one of the primary reasons most doctors support a not-for-profit insurance option), so fearing that from a government option seems a little late to the game and detached from reality.
When all of our current insurance choices are controlled by shareholder boards who are primarily concerned about their bottom line and not your health, there is a problem, and I, for one, am glad someone is finally addressing it.
I don't see the issue. It's the same line Obama's always used about video games. It's more about not letting video games completely rule our lives than outright saying "THEY POISON MAH KIDS MINNNDNDDDSSSS", and I think that's a sentiment most of us can agree with anyway.
@WildKB: Agreed, Obama is saying what most people including gamers agree with. Children especially shouldn't be playing games all day every day, you need balance in life and going outside to get skin cancer and swine flu is just as important as getting fat and socially-inept....wait, that's not what I was trying to say. Ah feck it, same thing :P
you don't, like how he is the reason why the government regulates banks, GM, pay for executives, and soon to be health care. Maybe not but he sure seems to feel that government control is the solution for everything else.
@Xcite79: If GM or the banks were able to regulate themselves then the government wouldn't have had to intervene and any first world government that cares about its citizens should provide some sort of healthcare solution.

Additionally, Obama is specifically focused on the US and it's undeniable the US has an obesity crisis.

It's true though, playing outside is much better for a child, it just ain't as much fun. But why can't there be a healthy balance of the two?

That's exactly what he's calling for. The only thing he's advocating giving up entirely is smoking, which he himself did during his campaign.

I am yet to hear a statement from Obama that shows he harbours an ignorant, irrational hostility towards video games.
(...And honestly, his attitude regarding games is not my main concern - and I imagine it's even less of an issue for Americans.)
