Say, if you have a baby, toddler or infant — or simply know someone with extremely tiny hands — and you have some knitting skills, why not whip them up some Mii mittens? The details on how to do something like this are available at Knitty — and look to have been for some time. Why weren't we informed?!

We're sure that a few of you out there gifted with needles and yarn can do the math required to tailor designer Michelle Hotchin's "Miittens" to regular sized human hands. If so, let us know.

<![CDATA[Wii Speak Channel Coming Next month]]> You didn't think the Wii Speak microphone was only for Animal Crossing, did you? No, Nintendo announced today at their press conference in San Francisco that an all-new Wii Speak Channel will arrive in North America on November 16th, allowing up to four friends who've exchanged Friend Codes to chat with one another. In the chat room, players will be represented by their Mii's, who will mimic their speech on the screen as it happens. I'm guessing that's limited to hand gestures and simple body movements, so those planning on using the channel for more intimate encounters will still have to rely on their imaginations.

The Wii Speak microphone, which retails for $29.99, will come packaged with a code that allows owners to download the Wii Speak Channel at no additional charge. Other uses of the mic include leaving voice messages for your friends ("Why did you disconnect? I wasn't done yet?") and narrating photo captions.

<![CDATA[Rare - Avatar Idea Predates Miis]]> When Microsoft announced customizable avatars as part of the new Xbox Live Experience at E3 this year, we weren't alone in thinking that it was a blatant attempt to copy Nintendo's success with Miis. Not so, says Rare! In an episode of Eurogamer TV, Rare's Head of Art for Avatars Lee Musgrave explains that avatars are an idea they've been kicking around since before the Wii's Miis.

“(Avatars were) an idea we had, even before Miis were part of the gaming scene, of putting these characters that you have an affinity with, not necessarily as part of the Xbox dash, but somewhere in the Xbox that you would play multiple games with, that you would have multiple experiences with that same character”

So while it could still be considered an attempt by Microsoft to capitalize on the success of Miis, don't drag Rare into that business. Miis were just a happy occurrence that helped bring their original idea to fruition.

<![CDATA[Today Was A Good Day For Celebrity Miis]]> Yes, celebrity Miis are done. So 2007. 2006, even. But putting celebrity Miis into context, and onto real-world bodies, that's a little fresher. Slobs of Gaming are running 14 pictures using just that premise, and while most of them range from sucky to very sucky, a handful shimmer, like Jesus rays poking elegantly through a night-black stormcloud.

<![CDATA[Designer Miis For The Lazy, Talentless]]> My Mii doesn't look much like, well, me. Good thing customize Mii designer Bobby Bobby is here to make Miis for me. Or you. Or whomever. According to Bobby Bobby, he's ranked #1 on the American Mii Artisan Rankings on the Check Mii Out channel, and he's "one of the few authentic Mii Artists around the world to achieve this honor." Above is a sample of his work, which runs US $7.99. Not bad! Bobby Bobby says:

When it comes to appearance accuracy, I will try my best to match the given photo as best I can, but please remember that facial features such as eye-brow shapes, hair styles and colors are limited to a select number of options. In other words, certain characteristics may not be attainable within the mii editor, such as outlandish hairdos, unusual hair colors, or facial tattoos. Therefore, I am restricted to choosing the best matching facial features from the available selection that Nintendo allows.

Apologizes those with "PSYCHO" tattooed on their foreheads. Bobby Bobby can't help you. No one can.

<![CDATA[Nerd Wedding Afoot, Mii Invitations Abound]]> Nerds get married all the time. Nothing new there. But nerds getting married in style, well, that is something new. This is the invite that's been sent out to friends and family of 4 Color Rebellion's Vinnk. And it's just great. Tasteful use of Miis in a formal ceremonial invitation and the joyous union of two crazy kids in love? Unprecedented.

<![CDATA[Wilco Concert Tee]]> Mind you, this is not Wii/Wilco fan art. This is a real concert shirt bought at Wilco concert. The six boys are featured as Miis on the shirt and have renamed their band Wiilco. A great shirt for gamers, but as time passes, probably not something that would probably cost a gazillion dollars on eBay like those new/old vintage Rolling Stones tees. Hell, you're probably lucky if the print even stays on the shirt after a couple of washes.

<![CDATA[New Wii Channel Goes Live]]> Boot up your Wii, head over to the Shop Channel, journey into the lonely Wii Ware section and you'll be presented with a chance to download the new Everybody Votes Channel.

Right now you're probably asking yourself... "Everybody Votes? The hell?" Well, for starters, it's a free channel, so you're zero points in the hole. The concept is that you can vote on Nintendo approved questions with your registered Miis. To what end? That's unclear right now, but the hot topics include questions like "Which is a more romantic Valentine's Day gift?" and "Which century would you prefer to live in?"

Thanks to everyone who sent in word and thanks to Holden for pics (more after the jump).
