I for one will believe anything that man says. I can't be mad at him if he can't always make good 100% because I plan to be a father someday and I am a son as well. What I'm trying to say is... I understand <3
Well here is the thing, if you don't make ridiculous promises you won't have to worry about keeping them. I don't think ANYONE thinks Molyneux is comparing himself or his ideas to these historical figures, it's just a countdown site...
Also, I'm sorry that your childhood has given you the idea that being a father is all about breaking promises and being a child is all about disappointment. Life isn't easy or fair, that is for sure, but you can at least keep the promises you make to your children baring unforeseen consequences.
@Hypernetic: You misunderstood me greatly. My perspective is that a father, for example, is someone who typically has the best of intentions for their children and sets out to give them the world. Not everyone can have the world after all; there's only one. Children believe their fathers can give them this word; part of growing up is realizing that they can. The goal fathers set for themselves is to make their children happy by providing everything they can for them. When I look back at all the promises made and all of which were kept, he clearly didn't give me the world but what he gave me is only affirmed by how happy I am right now and I am. One thing's for sure though, I'm not going to "manage expectations" my son might have of me; I'm going to set them high and spend a lifetime to get as close to them as I can.
Back to Peter: in a general sense, sure Peter may have painted grand pictures of the games he'd make for me to play. When I play many of his games, I genuinely enjoy them. I don't want Peter to have simple ideas and scaled down dreams. I want him to dream big and try to give me as much of those dreams as he can. As a person who's been into game design for the longest time and hoping to release some (someday), I credit his open dreaming with being some of the seeds that grow into what I may do someday.
