Those recreational activities include playing video games among other things to help him chill out.

The 14-career-gold-medal holder Twittered his favorite three NES games:

Top 3 original NES games: 1. The Legend of Zelda 2. Super Mario Bros. 1 3. Contra What's yours!?

We're going to be blunt. It's hard to obsessively check Phelps' Twitter page and weed out spiffy game-related posts like this. Oh, and Michael Phelps smokes pot.

<![CDATA[Activision: No Plans To Drop Phelps, A-Rod From Guitar Hero Ads]]> Now that Alex Rodriguez has admitted to being a juicer and Michael Phelps has been caught sucking on a bong, will Activision yank its Guitar Hero World Tour ad spots featuring the two? Nope!

According to the New York Daily News, Activision has no plans to stop running the ads amid controversy over two of its stars' drug problems. I guess we should point out that Phelps' drug "problem" is alleged, since the dude hasn't officially said he was smoking pot. It could've been dried banana peels, after all.

As the Daily News points out, the singer in the Guitar Hero World Tour jock band, Kobe Bryant, was also accused of sexual assault back in 2003. While Bryant's accuser never testified in that trial, she eventually settled, an affair that put a tinge of controversy on the NBA player.

Activision does say that the Guitar Hero World Tour ads that spoof Risky Business are coming to their end anyway.

Good timing, since somebody's bound to find out about Tony Hawk's collection of 8-year old girl skeletons he keeps in his basement.

<![CDATA[Michael Phelps' Game To Be The Next Tiger Woods Game]]> 505 Games is creating a game based on Olympic swimmer extraodinaire Michael Phelps, but can swimming carry a video game? Probably not. That's where the pure action comes in.

Swimming is a the sort of sport that is extremely exciting...for swimmers. 505 Games realizes this, and while there will be a healthy dose of watersports in Phelps' game, it won't be confining the action to the swimming pool.

“Swimming will be a part of it, but it won’t be set in an Olympic pool going back and forth,” said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games, the company releasing the series. “This is a pure action game”

A pure action game? With Michael Phelps? What the hell could they be planning? "Michael Phelps: SwimSpy"? A remake of Ecco the Dolphin? I mean, pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but as G4's Adam Sessler points out in the Daily News article, "Swimming — in even a Mario game — is a miserable experience".

Despite skepticism on the part of just about everyone in the gaming industry, 505 games remains unperturbed about the title.

“We will spend a very pretty penny in marketing this project because it’s important to us,” Kline said. “We believe it’s the next Tiger Woods project. ... It could be here for the next 10 years.”

Oh joy! "Michael Phelps: SwimSpy 5: Swim Harder"!

<![CDATA[Michael Phelps Teams With 505 For Some Sort Of Swimming Game]]> 505 Games has just announced a partnership with Olympic uber-swimmer Michael Phelps to develop video games for "next generation" consoles and the i-Phone, padding the sadly neglected swimming category of sports games.

As Phelps himself let slip on 60 Minutes earlier this month, there is indeed a Michael Phelps video game in the works. In fact, 505 Games is working on multiple Phelps titles, with the first expected to be released in the spring of 2010. The titles may even include some of the Olympic legend's teammates, whoever they were.

"I am really excited to partner with 505 Games and work with them to develop a game that is reflective of my personality, lifestyle and competitive nature," said Phelps. "I believe this will be a tremendous opportunity to help continue my quest to raise the profile for the sport of swimming."

I look forward to seeing how 505 Games can possibly take the sport of swimming and make it more interesting than timed button presses. Best of luck!

MICHAEL PHELPS AND 505 GAMES TO COLLABORATE ON NEW VIDEOGAME PROJECTS

Multiple Titles to be Developed by 505 Games' New U.S. Operations for Distribution Worldwide

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 15, 2008) —- Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, and global videogame publisher, 505 Games, announced today a new partnership to develop next generation console and iPhone videogames. The first title is scheduled to release in spring 2010 and will be developed by 505 Games' newly formed U.S. operations in Los Angeles. 505 Games also has European offices in the UK, and distribution partners around the world.

"505 Games is proud to partner with Michael Phelps to create innovative new game play experiences that celebrate active lifestyles, the spirit of competition and the inspirational dream of becoming a champion," said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games U.S. "Through swimming, Michael has become an international superstar and role model for people of all ages. With 505 Games' global reach, we look forward to leveraging the powerful digital entertainment medium to bring Michael's passion for sports and competition to new audiences around the world."

505 Games and Phelps are currently in the development stages for the first-of-its-kind videogame that may also include some of his teammates. In addition, 505 Games will donate a portion of the videogame proceeds to the Michael Phelps Foundation.

"I am really excited to partner with 505 Games and work with them to develop a game that is reflective of my personality, lifestyle and competitive nature," said Phelps. "I believe this will be a tremendous opportunity to help continue my quest to raise the profile for the sport of swimming."

Phelps, who is represented by Octagon, was recently profiled by CBS News' "60 Minutes", named Sports Illustrated's "Sportsman of the Year" and released his third book entitled NO LIMITS: The Will to Succeed.

<![CDATA[Michael Phelps Says His Game Is 'In Development']]> Michael Phelps is both the winningest swimmer ever, and chummy enough with Activision to be given a box containing no copies of Call of Duty. Surely he should have his own game by now?

Michael thinks so too - in fact, in an interview on 60 Minutes he just let slip that there is indeed one in development. No further details were forthcoming and the sorry excuses for journalists they employ on Minutes these days didn't pursue the point. Activision are yet to confirm that they are working on such a title, though they would seem to be the likely choice.

We are going to go out on a limb here and assume that the game will involve swimming in some form, allthough we strongly suspect that there is no physical activity that Phelps is not the best at - except perhaps failing - so who knows?

<![CDATA[Wait, Michael Phelps Didn't Get Call Of Duty Early]]> On Thursday, you would have seen Michael Phelps, still basking in the glow of his olympic triumphs, presented with a copy of Call of Duty: World At War. A game that's months from completion. Turns out Phelps didn't receive the game at all; what he got instead was a box of lies. An Activision PR rep has confirmed that Phelps was presented with an empty box and a promise that, when the full game's, you know, actually finished, he can have a copy. Who knows where this exciting new trend - of giving celebrities things that don't yet exist - will lead us.

<![CDATA[Michael Phelps Has CoD: World At War And You Don't]]>
So what do you need to do to score a copy of Call of Duty: World at War from Activision two months early? Simple. Just dominate a sporting event on the global stage, bringing home a record-breaking 8 gold medals from the Olympics, and that baby is yours. This is a video from CBS's The Early Show, which shows U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, otherwise known as The Seahorse, receiving a copy of the game for the PlayStation 3 at the end of the segment. Perhaps by the time the game comes out in November he'll actually have time to play it.
