I don't actually desire a Metroid Prime 4, at least not before we get another side-scrolling Metroid title. It doesn't need to be 2D per se, but in this era of DSi/WiiWare, I think the argument against staying flat has been severely weakened.
It's also be quite nice if we got a Metroid trilogy that was composed of the first three Metroid titles.
At least Nintendo isn't pretending that their games based on old IP aren't waggle-infused rehashes anymore.
Honestly I'd prefer they go back and update their entire lineup of mascot titles from the N64 days instead of trying to reinvent them for the soccer mom set who isn't going to care anyway.
Give me Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time with new art and waggle tacked on and I'll be a happy fanboy again...
So you fans complain about the lack of first-party franchises, and when they do throw you a bone, you complain about "milking". And when something like this comes up, you start complaining about Nintendo "screwing over the fans" with absolutely no explanation. I'm not sure why fans would be complaining all the time.
You sure there wont be new content? The japanese relase of Prime with new play controls had the achievement system 3 had ,and a few unlockable alongside that, like the screen shot tool, etc. Did they decide against these in America? If so, lame.
@orenn: What I mean by "content" is new levels, story elements, characters, weapons etc. Stuff like soundtrack unlockables and the bobble head are "new things" but not "new content" imo.
I can't beleive that Nintendo finnaly did somethnig I really wished they did when Metroid Prime 3 came out! Im gonna go and wish really hard that they make a F-Zero for the Wii. Who knows, right? ^_^
I haven't played the GC/Wii Metroid titles, but I played Super Metroid back in the day, until I got pissed after 10 minutes because I had no idea what the Hell I was supposed to do. Should I give it a try again? First one to give me a good reason to try it again wins a beer and a kebab.
@Combichristoffersen: They're fricken great. You should play them to experience the feeling they give you of being alone in a strange place with nothing but your blaster cannon to protect you (particularly the first Metroid Prime). That and they are great salve for a lingering case of butt-hurt. ;)
In Nintendo's defense, there are plenty more people who own a Wii than those who owned/own a Gamecube. Re-releases are wise because they know there's a market for it. It's profitable.
On the other hand, these new play control titles are getting annoying. I suppose my being a gamer is the reason why it frustrates me. It appears to be blatant double-dipping.
@Spaceboy: I know what you're saying, but you're right when you say it only looks this way because you're a gamer. I went out the other day and bought a Beatles compilation CD. No big deal right? But imagine all the hardcore Beatles fans who were pissed when they saw that those same songs they bought on an early album rereleased on 8 Track, then on cassette, then on CD with new album art. Then in a compilation of "Best of" a few years later. They don't simply expect people to rebuy (although I'm sure they'd be glad if they did). They don't necessarily want to double dip. They want to create a product that hits a certain market just right. And as the consumer who bought the "Best of" compilation CD, I'm pretty happy they did it, even if it pisses off some fans who bought the shit already.
@Spaceboy: Ok this is what angers my blood. Nothing against you, personally, but this argument doesn't really hold up for me.
You can play gamecube games --already--, on the wii.
No "remakes" are necessary. These games are able to be inserted into the Wii, sans Nintendo remake tax, and enjoyed, without additional purchase!
Sure the controls are easier on the wii, but to say that the majority of wii owners didn't own the gamecube doesn't mean that the majority of Wii (read, all of them) can't play gamecube games!
This is 90% money grab, 10% controller reconfig. It's gonna have to take a hell of a fanboy to convince me otherwise.
@Steven Hott: It's probably fair to call it a money grab, but what about those of us who were asking for EXACTLY this compilation on one disc? If you don't want it don't buy it. Like you said, you can get the cube versions without paying the nintendo tax. So what difference does it make. Those of us who want it will buy it. Maybe there aren't many of us, but I think Nintendo is betting there are enough to support the dev cost (which is probably next to nothing).
Why is it the "cool" thing to hate on everything that is announced. Not everyone has played through the previous versions of Metroid. No one is forcing a gun to your head telling you to buy.
@raz7719: Internet gaming sites are chock full of butt-hurt cry babies. It never ceases to amaze me. If a game is announced that doesn't meet their specific criteria, they cry about it on forums. And to make matters worse, they believe that because there are lots of people crying on forums that they are somehow vindicated. Its getting really tiresome. People, if you don't like a game, just don't buy it. Please don't bore us with your stomping about on the internets.
@raz7719: The problem is that Metroid fans (which I'm not. I don't dislike them, but I never saw what the big deal was) have been teased for awhile now about a new game, then they're told "Oh, hey, nope. Have the old games instead".
Sure, it's good for business and it brings the games to a new market, but that doesn't do much for the original fans now, does it?
Not that I think any of them should be surprised, I'm pretty sure they should be accustomed to Nintendo's recent business model of "print more money, fuck the fans". Good for business, and good to alienate the people that helped bring them to where they are today.
Not sure what to make of this to be honest. Will it get a PAL release for the UK?
I'm not entirely a fan of Nintendo's lazy approach to releasing older games rather than new ones, but at least they have the consumer in mind here by releasing all three for the price of one, rather than the other two at full RRP
A new Metroid game is well overdue though, so I think this gets everybody back in the Metroid universe and keeps them sweet for the time being ready for a big announcement at E3 about a forthcoming title in the series.
Personally, I think everybody would enjoy a rerelease of Super Metroid (IV) on the DS, or a proper sequel to that game rather than another Prime era Metroid game
Uhh, Super Metroid is Metroid III, not IV. Fusion is IV. And I'd MUCH prefer Metroid V over Super Metroid and/or Fusion remake on DS. I own them both already, on the super nintendo, on the wii, and on the gameboy. I don't need those 2, I need a new Side-Scrolling Metroid.
@excel_excel: I'd like a Prime 1&2 Bundle. Separate discs 'n that, but bundled together to be a bit cheaper that buying both separately. Plus, it pleases us corruption owners.
@ShiftBreaker: But the New Play Control games are 30 bucks each... even if they bundled them it and lower 10 bucks that would make it a 50 bucks game, which this compilation of 3 games is... So really what's to complain about?
Then you could just SELL your MP:C disk for 15-20 bucks and this game will be basicly at the same price of ONE value priced game.

No, they've done most of the teasing themselves. Kinda like how there's still rumours about a fourth Dragonball series.

The 'Dread' project was even hinted at in MP3. And yet, its all been smoke and mirrors.
