What you call a Black side kick has been in the series canon for awhile now. He was in the Nintendo power comics way back when and he was the mysterious computer that was in Fusion.
All I'm saying is don't judge the game until you've played it.

I'm basing my opinion on the earlier portion of Corruption. When there are a band of fellow hunters turning up throughout the game. It seemed like they were trying to take the game in a more traditional action game-like direction. IMO the game took a while to recover from this and create the atmosphere of other metroids.

But the direction Other M seems to be taking is what I wanted. Samus shown out of her suit, as a character, perhaps even with dialogue. Humongous, populated worlds, and a new gameplay style, which I think will fit better when you think about all the abilities Samus used to have (the Prime games had a lot of abilities, but the platforming was really pretty bland, you just can't have great platforming with a first person title).
Can't wait for this.

However, I don't think that Team Ninja are the developers to do that, its not really their forte. Fast paced frenetic combat and pneumatic breasts yes, charachter driven naratives... not so much.

I love Nintendo games, but let's be honest. Their stories, if you can even call them that, are pretty weak.

I do see your point, though.

Maybe she'll get a mid-game upgrade...

So... 2 Metroid games in development? Suhweet.

I think that is a fresh and exciting approach. I like how it combines the best of both franchises, too (the 2D sidescrollers and 3D FPSes).
Does anyone else have thoughts in this?

I pretty much agree with you. I'm eagerly awaiting the gameplay style similar to the Ninja Gaiden series, within the mythos and lore of the Metroid universe. I don't think it's an AU, though, as there are references to Samus, or Ms. Aran as they put it in the trailer (I think). Either way, it looked very slick, and very polished. Definitely looking forward to it.
