(To be fair, I read that comment more as "the rest of the team are too young to remember the cold war properly, I have to help them so they don't get confused and get it right" more than "I have to be involved to make sure the game isn't confusing to the player". ;-)
Wow.... he really can't let go his Solid Snake, can he? both Solid and Old Snake.
When Konami commissioned Peace Walker, they were like "Listen... I know you said you don't wanna have anything to do with MGS anymore as long as Snake is retired with you, but we're doing another entry on our most profitable franchise starring our most profitable icon character."
Kojima was like.... "Snake? Snake? SNAAAAAAKE?!?! Move over biatches!! Nobody touches Snake but me."
Actually Mr. Ashcraft, teh internets already confirmed that Kojima will not have any role in MGS Rising's development, So I really don't know what to tell you.
You know though, Kojima probably did decide to play a role in Rising's development just to make sure it completely sucks since he was forced into doing it anyway.
@-MasterDex-: Time to change those batteries in the ole sarcasm detector.
Ever since MGS Rising was announced a certain group of people, who will remain anonymous, are making some pretty outrageous claims concerning Kojima's feelings towards this project.
I think his team would be more than capable of doing MGS justice without him there in such a role. I love MGS, but I'd love to see Kojima do something new as well.
I hope it happens eventually. I'd hate to see him chained down to something he doesn't want to be a part of anymore.
Well I'm shocked, Because when he said he was done after MGS2 I believed him, Now 17 Games later he's saying "Meh, One more". Whatever Kojima, Just continue to make great games and stop saying you it's that last one before your done.
@SinfulKnight: I honestly believe he wants to do something different, wouldn;t you in the same position. I think he just wants to let Metal Gear keep the respect and admiration it's garnered.
I feel kinda bad for the poor guy. You can tell he wants to try new things, but the Metal Gear series creates such high expectations that he keeps getting dragged back into the same series he's been doing for the past decade. It's like being a band and only playing one song at your concerts, or being Dave Chappelle and having everyone yell "I'M RICK JAMES, BITCH!" when you're trying to do standup.
@You Are My Friend!: I don't care what anyone else does with the game from this point on, I'd never be able to imagine anything Metal Gear as anything but Kojima's baby.
@Paradox me: You don't care but Kojima is a perfectionist, it would kill him to see one of the big MG games becoming a piece of trash that's the butt of jokes.
@B33: All of the above? Maybe career suicide if he didn't? Maybe they showed him ideas so horrible for Metal Gear's future that he had to step in again. Kinda like how John Lasseter had to step in and fix Toy Story 2 before it was released.
So what exactly does a producer of a game do exactly? Are they the guys who shell out the cash? Or are they the ones that say "ohay guise! Listen to my awesome ideas etc.etc."?
@InfernoT: Have faith, brother, for the power of Metatron is not to be discarded so easily. He who bows to the WILL of Metatron shall never suffer nor yearn, neither fall ill nor be mistreated.
@Whytookay - Ramming Speed!: Basically what B33 is saying is that new ideas cannot be produced as long as an audience(fanboy) admires a franchise. So basically if an audience falls in love with a franchise then more of the franchise will be made. So Kojima is unable to leave because the fanboys may not buy any games from the franchise. And since his bosses want money they tell him to stick with the franchise. Thus any new creative ideas cannot be worked on, or at least not with 100% focus anyway.
@Torak3015: I'm a fanboy for metal gear and I'd wished there wasn't going to be a new MGS, unless of course it was to fill in the gaps, not NEW STORY, you know? So Peace Walker, yes (but next gen, even if it multiplat) but not freaking Raiden... Which I'll still buy, because I'm a metal gear fanboy.
@☆スネーク ☆: Agreed. Ghost Babel was actually pretty fun. But the only reason for that is because it was basically a top-down remake of MGS 1. Not exactly a remake, but the gameplay mechanics are identical and it plays pretty much the same.
The major differences are a so-so plot and the uninteresting bosses. Oh and that conveyor belt box puzzle. That goddamn conveyor belt box puzzle >:O
And now that I think about it.. I believe Ghost Babel was the very first Metal Gear game I ever played :O
Rented it for GBC and played it overnight while watching an x-file marathon back when I was maybe 12 years old or so! Didn't sleep all night!
Of course, I didn't complete the game until much later, on an emulator, but that is beside the point. I remembered my first Metal Gear experience, and that's awesome :D
It's like this news is a giant rock, and the fanboys are the huge insect colony hiding underneath when you lift it up.
Your first reaction is to recoil and slam the rock back in place, but what's done is done, and you can't help but sit and stare at the insects in disgust.
Jesus H. Jingleheimer... it's just a game, people. Your rabid brand loyalty is overriding your ability to think for yourselves. The 360 and PS3 *can* co-exist. There isn't going to be an epic and bloody battle between the companies and their customers. They are just appliances.
Sometimes games go multi-plat on said appliances. This doesn't harm anybody. If you need a game to be exclusive to your console of choice so that you can feel superior, then you should probably be spending your money on counseling instead of games.

Taking bets on guesses!
Anywho, seriously not shocked at all. This is how this gen is going, especially with timed and exclusive purchasing by the green giant.
I am interested in seeing what this game is about.
