Brief Look at Metal Slug 7 Coming to DS

Metal Slug is hailed as being one of the best side scroller series ever created. However, you might find it hard playing the 7th installment on an Atomiswave or Neo-Geo cabinet, it's coming to your DS this November. Featuring 7 new missions and loads of slugs at your disposal, Metal Slug 7 is looking utterly bad ass.

Metal Slug 7 Is Official (It Wasn't?)

Oh yes, we've known about the existence of Metal Slug 7 for some time now, but today, Ignition and SNK Playmore make an honest game of the Nintendo DS title. You know the drill with this Metal Slug stuff. Walk right, occasionally left, you might possibly move vertically, and while you do, shoot everything. It should be on store shelves some time this fall.

This was in the press release and attributed to the President of Ignition Entertainment Ajay Chadha: "Truth be told, I have a pink DS and was embarrassed to play it in public. Now with Metal Slug 7 loaded, I have no qualms." Excellent.

Wiikly Wii Update

Dr. Mario Online RX Hits North American WiiWare

It's Monday morning, and while the rest of the U.S. has the day off today, Nintendo is hard at work delivering two new games a piece to both the Virtual Console and WiiWare, including the stateside debut of Dr. Mario Online RX (1000 points), which allows you to take your pill-popping puzzle game online to battle players around the world. Joining the good Dr. is Aksys Games' Family Table Tennis (500 points), a cell-shaded dose of ping pong goodness.

On the old side of new stuff, this week sees the release of that classic NEOGEO shooter Metal Slug (900 points), along with the NES version of City Connection (500 points), which has you touring famous cities as a platforming far challenged by police, spikes, and of course, cats.

There you have it. Four new games for the Nintendo Wii all at once, all for you. Now I head back to bed. If you need me I'll be snoring so loud I wake myself up every five minutes.

SNK Playmore Suite Visit

I got a chance to swing by the SNK Playmore Suite at GDC to check out some of their offerings. Most of what they had going on on their screens were showings of their various game anthologies including Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2, King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match, King of Fighters Collection Orochi Saga, Samurai Shodown Anthology, SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 and World Heroes Anthology. Not a whole lot new here but there were a couple of nice looking trailers for King of Fighters XII and the New Samurai Shodown.

The real treat however was a little surprise waiting on a DS in the corner, Metal Slug 7! I hot footed it over to the corner of the room and practically wrestled the girl playing it to the ground in my attempt to check out the game. It looked great, played better and had everything you could possibly want from a Metal Slug game. So if you are ready for a new Metal Slug experience, look no further than Metal Slug 7, coming soon to a DS near you.

Ring In The New Year With KOF, Metal Slug, Wet T-Shirts

Christmas cards from developers are big thing in the West. Similarly, no developer in Japan would be rude enough to neglect sending cards commemorating the New Year. Metal Slug and King of Fighters developer SNK Playmore has already done the honors for this holiday, creating a batch of a half-dozen Happy New Year 2008 card mock ups that you can send to your favorite fan of whatever SNK Playmore games the kids are playing this year. Designs for Metal Slug (above), Samurai Shodown, The King of Fighters XII, The King of Fighters '94 and The King of Fighters '98 are all currently available for your downloading and redistributing pleasure.

For your own enjoyment, plenty of wallpapers that are not holiday related, including some fabulous desktop worthy World Heroes Gorgeous pieces are just a downward scroll away.

Metal Slug 3 Hits XBLA This Wednesday

In my humble opinion, PSN is outrocking XBLA in terms of new and original titles. But more and more I'm seeing the two services as separate entities. PSN takes risks and finds incredible new talent and fresh IPs. XBLA gives us an easy way to play our old favorites.

This Wednesday Microsoft is releasing SNK Playmore's heralded classic Metal Slug 3 to XBLA for 800 points. Now in 720p and featuring online co-op multiplayer, I'm almost glad I didn't pump a boatload of quarters into the game when I spotted a cabinet a few months back. But man I've gotta pick up a joystick for the 360 already.

Incredible Hand Made Metal Slug Arcade Controller

I have seen a lot of home made arcade controllers in my time, but this one really takes the proverbial cake. Like many of us, Kotakuite Ash wanted his own arcade cabinet. Instead, he decided all he really needed was an arcade controller to play all his MAME games with, which would provide the arcade experience without having to make room for the sometimes bulky stand up machines.
