Okay, that's it! We're done. Five readers found boxes, took pics and shot off emails fast. Here are five lighting quick readers. In boxes.

PlayStation Gamer Advisory Panel members ought to check (and re-check) their spam filters, as they may be on the receiving end of an unsolicited Metal Gear Online beta invite. Our helpful tipsters—who moonlight as lucky bastards—have already been notified that they'll be able to participate without having to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4. Good thing Sony and Konami waited until (most of) the bugs were shaken out before distributing to GAPers. Oh, that's a horrid name for it...
Thanks to Marcus and Ernesto for the heads up.
It's great. So there you have it. Great. Keep in mind that you'll have to download the 1.2 update before playing, on top of the ridiculously large 1.1 update from earlier. Those of you never got around to downloading that first update (like me) might want to get on that right now, as the download might finish before the beta is over...if we're lucky.
It's blurry, yes, and they're all yammering on in Japanese, but you get the gist. It's Metal Gear Online. And it's Metal Gear Online not in some pre-prepared trailer, but how it'll look when you're actually allowed into the beta on Friday (fingers crossed, touching wood upon a crossed heart). Looks...well, it certainly looks different.
MGO Character [Akayuki]
Thank goodness that the Kojima Productions team opted for a public beta test of Metal Gear Online. They've almost assuredly learned plenty from the influx of traffic from new-gen Metal Gear hungry gamers, resulting in a non-playable clusterfuck of an MGO beta. After delaying the beta to an unspecified date, the Konami folks now have their collective eyes on Friday April 25. We think it's just one minute after 11:59 PM PDT, but you can never be too sure. Keep the whole day open.
Or don't! The official Metal Gear Online news page stresses that the beta launch "may change due to unforseen [sic] circumstances." There is a tiny glimmer of good news, as the beta has been pushed on the back end, closing on May 11, instead of the fifth, as previously planned. So... Friday it is. Commence breath holding!
...we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected. As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server. We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused. As a result, the beta's start date - which was meant to be today - has been postponed, with an announcement on a new date expected on Tuesday (Europe: "we will be suspending the European public beta test and restart it once we stabilize our server"). To compensate for this, the beta will be run for another week, and is now due to end on the 11th of May, rather than the 6th. Good thing Konami are doing all this now, such a loooooong time before the game's due for release, because if they left it to the last minute (like, a month and a half before release, say), people might start to worry!
Another week means one thing: More Metal Gear Online mess-ups! In today's extra special clusterfuck, Konami errors persist. We're getting word that even though the servers are live, but many are getting network errors up the whazoo or this message: "The GAME ID or password is incorrect. Unable to log into server.(0911:00000003)." Keep in mind, these folks are entering their correct user names and ids. Konami's running regular updates on the Japanese Metal Gear Online homepage about how the servers are getting overloaded and how sorry it is for the hassle. Another thing to keep in mind: The Beta starts today! Hooray!! For those unable to log in, here's the online manual. You can read it and imagine the fun you'd be having. That is, if Konami hadn't dropped the ball and then kicked it across the room. We're sure Konami will figure out this internet thing sometime today, tomorrow or maybe even before the game goes on sale this June.
Thanks to all who sent this in.
To start, we have been getting reports that some of you are receiving partial digit UPVC's Metal Gear Online Beta on the "Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD inserts. We are aware of this issue and are working hard to remedy. If you've been affected by this issue, please contact us at http://www.konami-data.com/support/. Please be sure to include your partial code, and any other pertinent details (like a return email address, etc). We thank you for your patience.
Currently, the extraordinary levels of traffic levels are causing great difficulty for our customers in accessing the page.
In order to solve the problem, we will be carrying out emergency maintenance work on the site from 04/18/2008 at 20:00 (GMT+9h).
During maintenance, the KONAMI ID portal site will be taken down and therefore will be inaccessible.
We would like to apologize for any inconveniences caused.

Bring your superfluous IDs and passwords! The Metal Gear Online beta is up and ready for download. Here are some pics from reader PlayingKarrde. The beta doesn't kick off until the 21st, so even if you download MGO, the game won't connect to the server. You can look at these title screens. There's another one after the jump. You can look at that, too. If you like.
Forget it. Your PSN name is not enough for Metal Gear Online. No way, no how. For those getting in on the MGO beta, you're going to need not one ID, but, you ready, two other separate IDs. That's right! Your PSN name is apparently worthless. According to the PlayStation.Blog:
