If this happens, their might be more support for Apple products.
Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple, and formerly Pixar as well. When Pixar was bought by Disney, Jobs became a member on Disney's Board of Directors, and currently holds the most stock at Disney. So... if Disney buys EA, he will potentially have the most influence to what happens to that company = more Apple focus for EA?
And btw M$ cant buy Apple especially when Apple has a larger stockpile of cash and investments. Apple CAN buy M$ and have about enough left for a happy meal!
While Microsoft executives like to talk about Apple as an insignificant company with less than 5% of the worldwide market share of all PCs and servers sold, the Mac maker now has more cash than Microsoft and earns more than half of its profits and over three fourths its revenues.
For the quarter ending in September, Microsoft released revenues of $15.06 billion, net profits of $4.37 billion, and a reserve of cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments that added up to (MS) $20.7 billion.
Apple reported $7.9 billion in revenues and $1.14 billion in net profit, but those numbers don't include most of its iPhone business, which is hidden away in subscription accounting under GAAP rules. For that reason, Apple also released its real earnings: $11.68 billion in revenue and $2.44 billion in net profits. The company also reported a cash position of (AAPL) $24.5 billion.
Wait a minute, is EA even selling? Or is it a situation wherein Disney can buy most of EA's share and thus owning them with the process?
Come to think of it, why would Disney want a videogame company? Is it because it's cool now or is it because of the profits? It's not all roses I hope they know. Unless they want to pimp out Disney games left to right and maybe infuse EA's games with Disney IPs...Now that's whoring if that ever happened.
If this does happen, wonder how EA will look like 3-5 years from today...
"Bioware developing new Disney-themed RPG!"
"Yearly Disney/EA mascot Kart racer"
Yeah I think everyone shudders at the thought of this...
@excaliburps: According to WSJ...the logic behind Disney buying EA is that currently, games based on Disney's IP's are outsourced to third parties. By acquiring EA, they can take out the middle man.
@Erinaceus: Hmm that actually makes a lot of sense...Wonder why they don't buy one that's a lot less cheaper...I heard Midway's looking for a sugar momma!
@fenderfuel08: I get your point but at the same time there's no telling what the suits will think of next! And if the trend (casual gaming) is any indication, I doubt they won't try to whore out Disney with EA's games...Ah if it's good then I guess a lot of people will turn a blind eye.
@Erinaceus: Well they can wait till Midway actually submerges and then buy of some of its studios or whatnot...Then again, yeah EA is way better than Midway.
@Seanross: An eye for an eye? Ha!If I was Disney I'd buy Take-Two instead...
@Qix213: That would be absurd! Can you say Grand Theft Mickey? =)
Or Bioshock with little mickey's??
@zoompooky: Why are they interested in EA then? (if this rumor is true...)
I know the obvious answer of "wantz more monies!" is legit but is it to increase their target demographic?
@cwbys21: Good point. I guess hostile takeovers are all the rage now eh? I should remember that when I see tits...
I know this is a rumor and all but this does come true do we have something to worry about? Would Disney be ok with its name brand associated with Dead Space,Etc.
I do remember Aladdin for the Megadrive,Rescue Rangers, etc they were good! Were they made by Disney's studios? It's been too long...
Disney are worse with IP extension laws than anyone else... what do you think? That they'll get rid of DRM? It'll be DRM that'll last for +200 years after the death of the developers.
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: that could lead to kingdom hearts mixups? goofy in madden? donald in mirror's edge? mickey in rockband?(that would be epic though...)
