<![CDATA[Video Games Live Has Its Own MP3 Player]]> The Video Games Live concert tour kicks their merchandising up a notch with this new VGL-branded VIVO MP3 player, loaded with unreleased recordings from Kingdom Hearts, Halo, and more.

The 2GB MP3 player is now available for sale at the Video Games Live online store, and will also be making appearances at the merchandising tables at Video Game Live concert events and eventually retail outlets. It a pretty standard player, though the VGL design on it is rather snazzy. The main selling point will be the 10 tracks of previously unreleased live recordings, with Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Warcraft, Castlevania, Myst, Mass Effect, Civilization IV, Tron, Earthworm Jim and Advent Rising tunes available exclusively on the device. Enticing, but is it $50 worth of enticing?

This probably would have been a very attractive deal a few years ago, but now that everything I own plays MP3s, I'm not seeing this flying off the merchandise table.

<![CDATA[Fox Goes into Halo Merchandising]]> 20th Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising has announced a partnership with Microsoft where they will be the licensing agent for the Halo franchise:

Fox Licensing will enter the strategic partnership with Microsoft — which has generated more than $700 million in sales from the "Halo" franchise, with more than 14.5 million video games sold — to expand the brand's licensing and merchandise program, retail distribution and worldwide presence with its target demographic of males ages 17-34.

Last we heard about a joint venture between the two companies, Fox was eating the cost of the (un)making of the Halo movie. Now they are more than happy to expand the Halo property into "new products, retail markets and territories". Does this mean that there's still a chance in icy hell for the movie to be produced or does it just mean we'll be seeing Halo-themed coffee mugs and gummy candies in the future?

<![CDATA[LOTR Actors Want Their Money]]>
Fifteen actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are selling New Line Cinema for breach of contract, claiming they still haven't received a percentage of the estimated $100 million in profits from the sales of movie merchandise, including the video games:

The New Zealand actors were supposed to split 5% of the revenue after expenses from sales of caps, video games, mugs and other merchandise, according to the lawsuit filed May 30 in Los Angeles County Superior Court. But, the suit contends, New Line breached the contract by taking distribution and "gross participation" fees to which it wasn't entitled

The fees weren't in the contract and they ate up all the profits owed to the actors, said their attorney, Henry Gradstein of Los Angeles.

Hollywood's full of dreams, but I'm sure a lot of actors didn't expect to spend time in court trying to reap the benefits of seeing their face on a mug or stripped onto an avatar. That's show business for you.

<![CDATA[Vote For Your Favorite Shirt]]> OK, my shirt guy down in Jersey tells me that we're going to go ahead and start running off logo only shirts, but we also need to decide on a slogan or two to start printing. Because of the insane number of entries we've had, we've stopped taking new ideas and now want you to concentrate on voting for the shirt you'd must likely want to wear.

Get to it.

<![CDATA[Warcraft Figures Unveiled]]> DC Direct were showing off their upcoming World of Warcraft action figures earlier this week at the American International Toy Fair in New York, and they turned out pretty damn spectacular. Just check out the detail on the undead warlock figure, Meryl Felstorm.

Hopefully these figures will lead to a whole slew of kid-friendly World of Warcraft toys, such as transforming Gnomish machines, toy versions of epic weapons, and most importantly, soft and spongy NERF WARLOCKS. Ahem.
