i still feel like the genesis/snes era may have had the highest amount of high quality games, but it's hard to remember exactly and compare to now.
but yea....we need more fun platformers nowadays. streets of rage, golden axe, sunset riders, altered beast, earthworm jim, splatterhouse, thats just off the top of my head but damn there were some greats. and phantasy star and shining force still some of the best rpgs ever

I LOVED my Genesis. I remember my mother rented it for me with Altered Beast one weekend for my birthday, because we were too poor to get one.
By that X-mas, she worked her butt off to get me one, with Sonic!!!

Was that really necessary? This is a celebration of the Genesis. Taking a shot at Sonic is just petty and unprofessional.

I remember getting mine when I was 6, in '94, with the game "Six Pack" which had:
Revenge of Shinobi
Sonic 1
Streets of Rage
Golden Axe
Columns
and this motorcycle game I was hooked to.
The Genesis was in the top 5 for definitive childhood memories. If I have kids, they're playing nothing after the N64/PS1 and GBC until they're like...13.

Also, I, too, love the graph paper and chiseled, polished metal inherent in Genesis design work.

Happy Anniversary Sega Genesis! Wow 20 years! Has it been that long?
The Sega Genesis was my 6th system and when I first put Sonic in and played it. It was so impressive I got goosebumps. I was used to 4-bit and 8-bit graphics. Where things flickered and characters seem to float around the screen, but Sonic had weight to him and the background was moving in 3D layers. I played it for the next 15 hrs.
Unfortunately I had a small 13 inch TV from 1982. We weren't rich. I mowed a lot of lawns to get my games. I still have photos from those days. My room looks so dirt poor, hehe.

Whoa you guys are right. I just noticed that myself. Yeah I did record video games on VHS tapes back then. It must be a tape.

It looks strange today to see all those controller wires. I don't miss them in the least.

Heck, that thing was such a trooper that when my original one gave up the ghost as the result of an unfortunate power plug error, I went out and replaced it, but but not with the model 2 or model 3 that, by then, were in the wild.
Had to be a model 1.
