The metal band seems to know what's going on and has embraced things like the internet, YouTube and (getting on topic) video games — namely, Rock Band. Megadeth has put its breakthrough album Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying? as Rock Band DLC.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine says the band currently does not have any intention of putting its seminal Rust In Peace out for Rock Band. However, Mustaine would "love" to talk to Harmonix about just that. Continuing, he adds:

In fact, I think the advent of these new games and YouTube and MySpace and being able to upload your music — it's the way of the future. These old fucking dinosaur bands that don't want to put their music up on iTunes or have anything to do with you guys doing games with Rock Band and stuff like that. It's just stupid. You know, just have mercy on them [the old dinosaur bands] and feel sorry for them and buy our stuff instead.

So which "old dinosaur bands" do you think Mustaine was referring to?

<![CDATA[Rock Band VH1 Mockumentary]]>

All the MTV Networks are going all out to promote the launch of Rock Band. Above you can see a clip of the first act of VH1's "mockumentary," ROCK BAND Cometh: The Rock Band Band Story. It's sort of like Behind the Music...but with plastic instruments and everyone's favorite TV host Kurt Loder! The best part are the talking head interviews with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, Anthony DeCurtis from Rolling Stone....and Mandy Moore? Let's hope this isn't a sign of Mandy Moore DLC coming for Rock Band. If you want to watch more of the documentary you can go to VH1's Rock Band site or watch it on VH1 Classic when it premieres on November 11 and 8 PM ET/PT. Spinal Tap it is not.

<![CDATA[It's MegaDeath Meets Gears of War, Literally]]>

CliffyB's Gears of War and metal band Megadeth together at last. This year's GIGANTOUR is being headlined by Megadeth and sponsored by Gears of War. Craig Davison, Director of Global Games Marketing for Xbox, says in spoken press release talk:

We're totally jazzed about the partnership between Gigantour 2006 and our forthcoming Xbox 360 blockbuster, Gears of War! Partnering a music extravaganza like GIGANTOUR with the launch of a mega-hit game like Gears of War captures the excitement around two awesome happenings for fans of music and video games!

How neat! What form this partnership will take place in isn't yet clear. Actually, I think this entire GIGANTOUR/Gears of War dealio is a Msoft ruse to deflect criticism towards video games and back towards the default default setting, heavy metal. Sneaky Microsoft, real sneaky.
