I love the level of detail trying to explain what's going on, the status updates, and the honesty. It's like a complete 180 from, say, Rockstar where you have no idea if they're even alive.
It's a shame that this wasn't worked out during their long beta testing. People had connection problems since day 1, and it's not like this is something you should be leaving til the last minute.
It's not done by Bungie either, but since they closed the guys who make the game down, that's an easy mistake to make.
What I loved most about their presentation at CES was the title for the girl that demonstrated their game creation software: "actual 12 year old girl"... awesome!
I've never been a big RTS fan. Back in my high school days I played Total Annihilation -- then it was the coolest damn thing because it was the first I'd ever seen/heard of. Now I prefer my gaming to be more mindless and escapist. If I want strategy, I'll play chess :)
Funny fact about halo wars: A good chunk of people out there think this is going to a shooting game like halo 1/2/3. It's gonna be hilarious when people are gonna buy it and be like, "WTF, THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT" and then try to return it.
@oneshot_: I think they won't. All you'd have to do (even if you was so far out of the gaming knowledge to not even realise it's an RTS) is look at the back of the case.
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: That's all you'd have to do to know that GTA IV is inappropriate for little Timmy too, but judging from that six year old who drove his mom's car, not many people are doing that.
@ReconToaster.: If it's a pre judgement about all RTS or console RTS then don't make it sound like a fanboy came on just to bash this specific game. That's probably just the case though.
No, it's not that it's an RTS on console... I think it CAN be done... sorta...
If anything, I'm a halo fanboy. Halo wars is an absolute joke, and it contains more canon mistakes than "Contact Harvest."
There is no flood on reach. THERE IS NO FLOOD ON REACH. All along we've been telling Ensemble "put the flood in multiplayer... not in single player" and they go and make it an entire playable race.
Problems with halo wars are as follows:
-You cannot make a pelican/phantom
-You cannot make a Rocket or sniper marine
- The only marine special unit is a "starship trooper" look alike Flame throwing marine, a unit that never existed in halo.
- You cannot create Elites or brutes. They can only be created along with a bunch of grunts.
Just as well, halo wars remains to be full of canon blashpemy. The cover features a spartan holding a gun that wasn't even created for another 22-27 years
He's holding an MA5B on the cover. You're thinking of the announcement trailer. ENSEMBLE corrected themselves on that error already. No BR55s in Halo Wars.
As for "Flood on Reach", who said we were going to play against them on Reach? Halo Wars takes place on Harvest. And we don't even know if we wind up going to another planet during the campaign. The gurgley jerks might be hiding out on some other planet.
I'm not quite sure what you're saying when you say "But then again, I've played FPS games before it." Before I played Halo, I played Medal of Honor on the Xbox and the PC, loved it to death, played Counterstrike, was underwhelmed by it, played Call of Duty on PC and Xbox, loved that, played both Star Wars: Battlefronts, still not tired of them, and played Goldeneye long ago at a friend's house. Hated that. Oh, and Timesplitters at school. Didn't quite grab me. Out of all of those games, not a single one of them had me enthralled by level design or story. Then I played Halo: Combat Evolved at my uncle's house, and was instantly hooked. I borrowed his copy and played the story to completion. The next day, I played it again to see if I missed any story details. Every now and then, I still boot up Halo: CE and explore the game world. I almost always wind up finding something new. Halo 2 was lent to me by my cousin, and I did the same thing again. Played the story twice, and got on to explore. Every once in a while the family would have gatherings, and I'd haul my Xbox along and me and my cousins would play some splitscreen. We all adored it, and had a hell of a lot of fun. Then my uncle convinced most of them that Halo was "unChristian" because of the Covenant. I didn't buy into that, so I still played. Got Xbox Live, and really got into that. Then Halo 3 was announced. I can't tell you how many times I've watched the announce trailer. I don't care how lame you think I am after I say this, but I was honestly in tears after the first time watching the thing. I joined the community at halo.bungie.org, and everyone was discussing story aspects and I loved it. After growing up with Nintendo, then Sony, I found the Xbox and that was the only system I needed. I bought a Wii, and it collected dust for three months before I decided to sell it. Mario, Sonic, and Crash Bandicoot have all been played out. None of their recent games captivate me like they did back then. Medal of Honor has also lost its luster in my eyes, and there's no new Battlefront in the near future. At least, not one that plays like the first two. Call of Duty is still one of my joys, and World at War consumed most of my time today, but I did get bored of it after a while. CoD4 bored me after a while, too. Halo, however, still holds my interest to this very day.
To sum this Great Wall of Text up, I grew up with other games, and played quite a few FPS games, but when I discovered Halo, none of them compared. It all boils down to personal opinion.
MA5B. Besides, the MA5 series of rifles has been around for a while. At the time of Halo 2 there was even an MA5K. There's no big deal if the Spartans use MA5Cs. It's still an MA5B, though.

It's a shame to see technical issues mar a game that is, by most accounts, pretty entertaining.
