With A Sega Light Gun]]> A man looking to collect on a debt broke into the house of 60-year-old woman in Brazil's Federal District, holding her hostage for ten hours on the business end of a Sega Light Phaser.

The Light Phaser, the light gun that shipped with the Sega Master System, must be fairly common in Brazil, considering how incredibly popular the 8-bit console was in the country—it was one of Sega's strongest markets.

Fortunately, the man released his hostage, unharmed, after negotiating with police (and brandishing a pair of actual deadly knives). "Unharmed" means we can all laugh about it now! In fact, heroic tipster Gustavo even gave us a free joke: "Of course he would not be able to hurt his victim - we can see that the gun was NOT plugged into the console." ROFL!!

<![CDATA[Master System Coming To VC]]> Sega's answer to the NES will soon be making an appearance on the Nintendo Wii as Sega announces the impending release of Sega Master System titles for the Virtual Console. SMS games will be showing up in Japan first, with Fist of the North Star and Fantasy Zone at 600 and 500 Wii points, with European and US releases to follow later this year. Sega also plans on distributing Game Gear and Sega Mark III titles along with the SMS favs. I have to admit that I never actually owned a Master System, which didn't quite take off here in the states, so I am looking forward to filling a gap in my gaming knowledge with delicious Sega goodness from back in the day while I patiently wait for them to start releasing Sega Nomad* games.

<![CDATA[The Sega Master System GAM-BOY]]>

In Korea, the PC rules. Console companies have been trying to crack the elusive market since the early days. For example, Sega teamed up with Samsung for a Mega Drive/Genesis release. And just take a look at this Sega Master System that's been dubbed the "GAM-BOY: Home Computer System" to either avoid Game Boy copyright infringement and/or confuse the hell outta customers. Classic!

<![CDATA[Sonic In 2D: A Study]]>

Back before 3D and human kissing, Team Sonic made some truly fantastic side scrollers. While Sonic the Hedgehog didn't go through as many evolutionary changes as Mario (or Link, for that matter), the spite character did get tune-ups during its 2D lifes, which spanned the Master System, the Genesis and the GameGear. Site NFG Games has a look back at the blue character, writing:

Sega had their work cut out for them with their many releases over two primary platforms, and as you can see they usually nailed it. During the 16-bit heyday Sega employed some very talented people, and most of their efforts were as good as anyone could hope for.

Yep. Sigh.
