We've seen Castlevania, Mario, Contra, and now here we are with Battletoads as reenacted within Half-Life 2.

Remember, this is Machinima (the site, and the titular genre), not a mod. So sit back and enjoy, you can't literally play this. Although it's hard to do so without imagining the impossible turbo tunnel level done in Source.

<![CDATA[Half-Contra: The NES Classic Goes 3D]]> Machinima put this up last week, following the Castlevania and Mario reconstructions in Half-Life 2. Anyone who's ever played Contra - that should be all of us, right? - will want to watch this start to finish. More than once.

Pretty shrewd how the level's creator (M0rtanius) staggered the platforms so you could shoot up foes above and below you, just like in the 2D version. But I'm guessing this isn't one-hit-kill difficulty.

Thanks Awwal for sending the tip. Sorry we spotted it so late.

<![CDATA[A Match Made In Post-Apocalyptic Heaven: PitFallout!]]> So apparently some good came out of watching a robot learn to play Pitfall: a Pitfall/Fallout mash-up.

Giant Bomb community member buzz_clik threw theses screens together in lieu of an actual game after reading a story about the Rutgers University robot that conquered the Atari 2600 classic game. It would have been cooler to have an actual flash game, of course, but what buzz_clik lacks in programing know-how, he (or she) makes up for in Photoshop skills.

And I can't argue with buzz_clik's logic on this — the games do seem to be a match made in heaven. Or, post apocalyptic brown heaven as the case may be.

Why not make a game that combines Pitfall! and Fallout ? They're both open-world games, with our hero braving a harsh landscape looking for stuff to pocket. They both have portions that take place underground. Both games have scorpions, as any good game should. Hell, there's even an expansion for Fallout 3 called The Pitt!

<![CDATA[Scout-Chop: You're Gonna Love His Ball]]>
YouTube user CastingOutTheSelf mined the Scout soundfile and came up with, lo and behold, a dead-ringer script for everyone's favorite hooker-beating pitchman. How the hell did we go a week before seeing this?

So very well played. But wait, there's more! Hang on for the testimonials at the end. Audio possibly NSFW.

Just more proof that it hasn't been parodied until it's been TF2ed.

<![CDATA[Team Fortress Brings Mayhem to Mario Kart Track]]> Maybe I don't need to play Team Fortress 2 on a Mario Kart track. But do I want to? Oh, for sure. Especially to get my hands on the Spy's "Sapper Nintendo."

<![CDATA[Track No. 8 on the Summer Mix Tape: Super Mario Brothers Tribute Song]]>

It's already been 20 years since the release of the first Super Mario Brothers and to celebrate, Generation Productions has got an internationally acclaimed composer named Winifred Phillips to record a new track in tribute, called "Go Mario!". The song will be featured in a cd called, "The Best of the Best of the Best: A Tribute to Game Music" that will be only be available at Game Music Central starting May 1st.

Ok, it's totally geeky, but I'm hoping it will make a killer 80s mash-up with a Eurythmics song in the future. Is there a DJ up in this house?

<![CDATA[The World of Mariocraft]]> One upside to the ease of levelling in World of Warcraft is that players get bored and create things like this Super Mario homage that mashes up the most popular game of then with one of the most popular games of now.

I think it definitely helps that the name of the MMO is so malleable, allowing for countless World of ——craft opportunities, like Whorecraft, Housecraft, etc. Me? I'm still holding out for The World of Ashcraft.

<![CDATA[Zelda/South Park Mash Up]]>

Wow. I don't even know what to say after watching this one. It's in turns terrifying, disgusting and downright hilarious. This goes beyond the normal mash up, this is like a mash up on acid. A semi-pornographic Zelda parody done in South Park animation style using the voice tracks from the Zelda cartoon. And to top it all off , it shows the original cartoon the voices come from in the lower left corner. Amazing job by Robotbling! I'm speechless...

Some very patient soul put together a hot little mash-up of Jay-Z's 99 Problems with Final Fantasy VII's Weapon Raid. The end result has the JZ song dubbed to the beat of Weapon Raid. Hotness.

A surprisingly well done mash-up of Doom and Guild Wars shows how the God features for the Dervish class will work. Needs more gibs and no two minutes video should ever require half its length to accommodate the end credits.

Super Mario Bros. seems to be the default setting for hackers looking to mash games. This clever Legend of Zelda hack actually does a good job of blending Mario and Link's universe in an non-annoying way. That's what these mash-ups are becoming, you know.

Jacko's wonderful moonwalking powers just kick the crap out of Mario's. I would pay for this game.

Skater-wear outfitter Magical Mosh Misfits is peddling Mario in its Summer collection. "Super Magical Bros." tees feature a cyclops plumber with skateboard. There are "Magical Bros" caps as well, which come in MaXXo, LuXgi, WaXXo and RockmaX (correct letters deleted to avoid a lawsuit). The lids have a special pouch to hold cigarettes.

Yes, people still skateboard. At least in Japan.

<![CDATA[Map Mash-Ups, Dragons Stampede Earth]]> secondlife-mid.jpg

It's not Jay-Z meets Weezer mash-up, but Ogle Earth points at a way to mash images from games together. The tech at OGLE (OpenGLExtractor) "observes the data flowing between 3D applications and the system's OpenGL library, and recording that data in a standard 3D file format." Basically, the tech allows 3D images from different sources to be formatted the same and then, integrated with each other. To continue with the mash-up reference in the first line, it'd be like modulating the key a song was in, so that it'd work alongside another song. Or something.

<![CDATA[Atari 2600 + Xbox 360 = Atari 3600]]> What's Pong like in HD?

Modder Seth Fogie took his Xbox 360 and stuffed it inside an Atari 2600 shell. In a detailed how-to, he lays out the process step-by-step. As cool as his mash-up is, I just wonder why he choose an Atari 2600 — a system that was eventually overshadowed by the NES. Is this some sort of biting console commentary? Probably not.

"For those who are wondering," Fogie writes, "the Xbox 360 did turn on and stayed on for a few minutes before it overheated." Guess you can take the 2600 out of an Atari, but not the 360 out of an Xbox.

<![CDATA[Sonic Speaks with a Heavy British Accent]]> Thing about mash-ups is some of them work beautifully, while some of them suck gorilla butt.
