$30? Hmm... I played the demo, and it was indeed good, but I was expecting more along the $20 line. $30 is a bit much to pay for what is really just a momentary distraction, even if it is fun. #halfminutehero
Loved the game, loved the music, loved the randomness. I also hated the Princess stages =/
They got very repetitive very fast.
The second to last mode was epic, though it took me forever to get right. The last mode... Is impossible hahaha. I haven't gotten past the first part. #halfminutehero
I picked this up, too -- I was surprised by the variety in the modes ... when I bought it, I thought I was just getting the Hero 30 mode -- so, really big bonus in my point of view.
@jayntampa: I haven't picked it up yet, but I am LOVING the music. It rips off so many of my favorite game soundtracks, from Suikoden to Mystic Quest to the old SNES Final Fantasies. #halfminutehero
@Mozz-eyes: I'm pretty sure it has been announced that it will be a "delayed download" title. UMD will release first, and download a few weeks later. (No source, just from memory, sorry) #halfminutehero
@Archaotic: Thanks, couldn't remember off the top of my head. Still, depending on the PSN price, it likely won't make it into my (admittedly small) library of games.
Guess I'll just have to wait til I beat what I have, then download some other titles as well. #halfminutehero
I'm surprised to see such a positive review because I found the demo awkward and unappealing. Maybe I'll give it another shot though the $30 price point is a bit off-putting for what appears to be a PSN/XBLA level game. #halfminutehero
@Stephen Totilo: It began with that evil guy and some elephant looking monsters and me running out of time whenever I'd pursue him or enter the battle to the right. Seemed like no matter how I tried to stumble through the level, I always ran out of time.
The time mechanic just went over my head I suppose. There was no documentation, so I really had no idea what I was doing. #halfminutehero
@Kobun: Sounds disastrous! They should have provided more documentation, it seems. As I wrote in the review, the key gameplay element in Hero 30 is the balancing of keeping the clock running and leveling your character. Basically, you "grind" by fighting random enemies (in battles that last about 1.5 seconds), get money and XP for that, head over to a town and pay tribute to a statue of a goddess, which puts the clock back up to 30 seconds. In the early levels, you don't have to re-set the clock that often. And, as the game gets tougher, they make it more expensive to re-start the clock. I'm not saying that explanation will make you like the game, but it should at least give you a shot at clearing the demo. #halfminutehero
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: Hell yeah. Game deserves GOTY just for referencing the shit out of Zero Wing. Loved that level.
(For those who've played the game but haven't played the stage, do Quest 4 and finish the stage without beating Larry and you'll unlock the bottom branch of quest 5. Quest 7 is titled Good Ol' Days. Fight CATS for great justice) #halfminutehero
I really have to say that the poor graphics were keeping me away from PSP instalments of Valhalla Knights. Wii version just looks like Vagrant Story (stunning for PS1 release).
I have no idea why do they do this. I am 3D artist myself and I can say people who made these visuals could easily just add more polygons and bigger textures, it is Wii we are talking about. It is not lack of talent or lack of powerfull platform. Wii is more powerful than original Xbox.
I can think of two scenarios. 1) They jumped platform at the last second (even though visuals are way too poor for PSP too). 2) They don't have capable graphic programmers at Xseed.... which I doubt - since these guys made Brave Story!
@elmorepow: Vagrant Story still looks miles better than this to me because the graphics were modelled around quality artwork.
I remember looking at the horrid 3D models on the covers of the PSP games and wondering why they couldn't just hire any half decent artist for it - not like Japan has a shortage of them.

I'm hoping that it will be a digital download though, I think Sony said all games would be from now on? #halfminutehero

I love the thought of it being able to suck up a lot of time, but not necessary in order to enjoy it. #halfminutehero
