The unnamed man took his DS and the game to Guam where he said vows with to Nene Anegasaki, one of three virtual girlfriends featured in Love Plus. Tomorrow, the couple will have a reception held on Niconico Douga at around 12 p.m. (no time zone given, check local listings on the site, if you can read Japanese.) The media has been invited to attend; slides will be shown from their time dating up through the wedding.

I've heard of dudes marrying a mannequin before so, this not in fact the most weird-slash-creepy-slash-pathetic thing I've ever heard. But my forced nonjudgment about this really needs its own word. Begrimaced? Bittersad?

<![CDATA[Popping the Question in Super Mario World]]> If her "awwww! Yes ... !" reaction doesn't melt your heart, then that little dog jumping and wagging his tail when they kiss will definitely finish you off.

We get a lot of video game proposals and weddings over the weekends - YouTube user bradsmith182 shows how to do it right. (Which is good, he only gets one shot, after all.) Simple level design, easy-to-read message, hidden cam to get her reaction and, of course, the dog. Man, the dog. I hope the little guy's a part of the wedding, although he looks like he might pee on a ringbearer out of excitement.

Congratulations bradsmith182 and Mrs. bradsmith182!

<![CDATA[A Post-Apocalyptic Marriage Proposal]]> This is the most touching marriage proposal involving the word "motherfucker" - and a spiked baseball bat - I've ever seen. A woman enlisted the help of Fallout's modding community to build a level in which she popped the question.

The video is of the entire level, eight minutes long, but to summarize - the guy gets a radio signal from a damsel held by slavers. He then busts into the fortress where she's held, shrugging off gunfire and mowing down raiders run-and-gun style (no VATS!) with a laser gatling, before reaching her cell. The slaver proposes that the player to buy her freedom - in a synthesized voice, it sounds like - but no dice. Down he goes, and then down she goes, on bended knee, to propose to her man.

Nontraditional? Absolutely. But for Fallout 3 fans, imagine being this guy. The process, going by the Bethesda studios forum threads, took nearly three months, start to finish, but it got the job done. Hubby-to-be said yes. Because love, love never changes.

<![CDATA[Engagement Ring Is This Game's Deadliest Thrusting Weapon]]> Some elements hidden near the end of the Wii's Mushroom Men game might make you think the developers are trying to say something about marriage.

Kris Taylor, co-founder of Texas game development studio Red Fly, admits that there are little innuendos in his team's 2008 Wii game about mushroom-sized, mushroom-shaped warriors.

That could include the name of the most powerful "thrusting" weapon (Red Fly's classification, not ours): The Engagement Zinger.

And that might include – SPOILER WARNING – the location of the game's final boss battle: the body and face of a creepy man's robot wife.

"The whole game was meant to be presented as kind of a dark tongue in cheek humor, with a little bit of grit layered on top." Taylor told Kotaku during a phone interview this week. It's like an old Bugs Bunny cartoon with some hidden stuff for an older audience. But not everything in the game was put there consciously, he added.

Taylor is happily married. His wife even asked him about being in the game. No, she's not the inspiration for the robot wife and she's not the motivation for making that deadliest of weapons an engagement ring held by a pair of tweezers.

These things just happen.

The Robot Wife idea came from the Red Fly team's discussion of a concept painting. They knew the final level of their game would be set in the relatively large confines of an Airstream trailer in the backwoods of Alabama or Arkansas. Taylor recalled the brainstorming session: "This guy needs to be one of those crazy people off the grid, full of UFO stuff and conspiracies. He's completely crazy and a drunk and he's always passed out there with a shotgun." That led to, as far as Taylor can recall, one of the developers on the team blurting out: "What if there's a robot wife he's built in there?" Removed from civilization, this man would have made his wife out of vacuum cleaner parts.

She'd have a TV for a head.

And, no, the game isn't trying to say anything about marriage.

"We'll let people form their own conclusions," Taylor said. "I think that's more interesting in art than giving people a specific message."

Taylor said that the Mushroom Men team at Red Fly Studio is hard at work creating concepts for a possible sequel, but have no further plans to announce.

<![CDATA[Couple Plans In-Game LittleBigPlanet Wedding]]> Remember the guy who proposed to his girlfriend with a LittleBigPlanet level? They are in fact getting hitched - and are planning to do so in the game itself.

Dimmujed, the groom-elect, uploaded that video yesterday, then went into the LittleBigWorkshop forums this morning to announce the happy news that he and his betrothed, Andrea, are to be wed in April.

Remember the level I made where I got engaged with a LittleBigPlanet level? Well now I made a level inviting you all to our wedding in LBP! We are going to have the actual ceremony inside of little big planet with a level on April 11th.

You will be able to check out the level online, and the ceremony on a video come April 11th.

And then the community had this tender, heartfelt reaction to Dimmujed's joyful news.

"Wat."

Congrats to Jed and Andrea. I just hope the hyperactive Sony mods take the day off, or don't find any reason to take down their matrimonial level. Because that would be so ironic, like rain on your wedding day.

<![CDATA[Lara Croft Wants Your Pictures, Not Just Your Proposals]]> The latest Lara Croft model Alison Carroll explains that while the seven marriage proposals she's received so far are lovely, what she really wants is your picture.

In a recently published interview with UK gossip rag The Sun, Allison discusses the ups and downs of traveling the world, the reactions of her friends and family to her new job, and the proper way to get and hold her attention while proposing marriage.

"I've had about seven marriage proposals. I get handed all these little notes. In my holsters are these little pockets so I put them in there. People have given me things in French, German, all sorts of languages, but what they need to do is leave me a little photo. I see so many people, so with a photo I could remember them.

Of course this is The Sun, so along with a sensationalist headline of "Lara Croft wants a man for 2009", it also comes with 29 pictures along the lines of the one you see above, for fans of the tabloid that aren't particularly fond of reading.

<![CDATA[A Proposal Of Marriage... via LBP]]>
A gamer known only as DimmuJed used LBP's level creation tool to propose to his girlfriend.

The actual proposal bit comes surprisingly early on - the guy can't resist tearing around the hearts and flowers-themed level racking up a (possibly symbolic) high score.

Not shown - her elaborate Unreal Tournament mod explaining that she isn't sure if she is ready for that level of commitment and would like some time on her own to think.

<![CDATA[Man Hacks Bejeweled, Wins Wife]]> p3ng has a special lady in his life. So special that, in January, the time had come to propose. Guy didn't want to do the standard dropping-to-one-knee thing, though, so he got a little clever: he hacked up a DS copy of Bejeweled and turned it into a cute little digital wedding proposal. Who can say no to that kind of effort? Not her, that's for sure.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Plot Twist]]>

Wow, that Peach sure does get around. Just a few months back we get an invitation to her wedding to Bowser and now she's marrying Link? But then I think we all know about Peach's questionable morals.

It really reminds me of the illustrations in the Little Golden Books I had as a kid. Some of my favorite parts of this image are Link's tie and the silhouettes of Pikachu, Megaman and Fox McCloud in the background. I also question exactly what Luigi is looking at as he wipes his tears away...

<![CDATA[Hardcore Gamer Gives Up Games For Icky Marriage]]> Let me set something straight. We are not here to advertise your eBay auctions, especially when you're a videogame traitor and throw away an amazing ultra-hardcore game collection on something as silly and temporary as marriage.

But that's just what Kotaku reader Nick plans on doing.

This enviable collection of rare and quality games and consoles with dozens of controllers is up on the auction block. After looking over his sizeable gaming stash, which contains hardware goodies like two pairs of official Samba de Amigo maraca controllers, the Steel Battalion box, two Neo Geos, a 3DO, four Virtual On twin sticks (two Saturn, two Dreamcast), a TurboExpress and a R.O.B., I got jealous.

When I saw a game list that included Radiant Silvergun, Ogre Battle 64, Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Force, I got pissed. I just don't understand some people. You're going to give this all up for a woman? She won't love you like your copy of Masters of Teras Kasi will!

Oh, well. Congratulations. (I guess!)
