Ah Ebi-chan, the one-kei queen, and the object of my desire.
At the age of 29, everyone keeps saying that ebi chan is "done for" due to her "advancing age."
Part of the reason she has been under the radar recently (besides appearing in a Subaru commercial, and the spring '09 advertisments of Maquillage cosmetics) is cause she is trying to rebrand herself as a more dignified "Ane-san" type.
Up until recently, Ebi Chan has been the face of a magazine known as "Can Cam." Can-Cam Targets 19-25 year old Japanese office ladies who like to spend their paychecks to look like Barbie dolls.
But recently she "graduated" to another magazine known as "Ane-Cam" (Ane means "big sister" in Japanese). Up until now, Ane-Cam was headlines by another famous Can-Cam graduate, Moe Oshikiri. While Can-Cam specializes in a younger demographic, Ane-Can shoots for the 29-36 age range, so the clothes tend to be a little bit pricier and more refined.
Ebi-chan is always on TV whining about how she can't get a boyfriend blah blah blah. The truth is, being a celebrity in Japan, and having a boyfriend/girlfriend is actually kind of frowned upon by managment.
@FarmboyinJapan: Well, it's not surprising. Keeps all the guys thinking they have a chance with her, which keeps the guys buying what she's selling. And makes her more likable to the girls than if she's swanning around with some hot guy other women would have no chance with.
But who would want her, really? She's a shrimp. ;)
Dude I would want her, thats who...shrimpiness an all.
Ebi chan is a big name, so she could probably get away with having a boyfriend. Her cohort in all things onei-kei, Moe Oshikiri, has gone public with her relationship with a Tokyo Giants relief pitcher, and not a lot has been made of it.
However, its seems like every week that I read in the news that some young pop princess has been let go from her managment label for 'conduct not in line with a pop idol.' Which is industry talk for 'she got caught taking purikura with a guy / she is seeing some guy.'
Depending on how much name value you bring to the table, even having dinner with a guy is grounds to be let go. Other things such as smoking, and drinking are always severly frowned upon.
One more thing about Ebi chan....she literally has the midas touch. Whatever she is wearing in the magazines, or whatever she is promoting in her commercials, that product IMMEDIATELY turns to gold. Heres a little example for you, as we all know, Ebi Chan appeared in some Puyo Puyo commericials. Not a day after the commericials aired, my girlfriend at the time called me to ask where she could get a DS for cheap. 'Why do you want a DS,' I asked her, 'you've never shown any interest in games before.'
Her response, 'I want one 'cause Ebi chan has one.'
@Miksho: female, all their limbs, no contagious diseases, full set of front teeth, within 1 foot height range, within 50 lb weight range but not look breakable, decently groomed, within 20% age range for both, skin and pulse, reads at least once a week
Say what you will about the wii, and everyone who reads my comments knows I have my issues with it, but the DS is, and continues to be, totally awesome.
Wow, I am just extremely giddy and hope to get my hands on this soon. Damn you Michael for letting me know about this title in advance, now the next few weeks will be painful, and my wallet will be a bit lighter... :(
