This time I am going to get his name right and attribute the news to Josh Olin, the Treyarch Community Manager.

Map Pack 3, of course, includes the multiplayer settings Battery, Breach and Revolution, plus the Nazi zombie map Der Riese. Unlike the consoles, however, PC players get this for free.

There are some other exploit fixes and issue correction. Additionally, Olin says Treyarch does "expect a concurrent release of the Mod Tools 1.4 package, Linux dedicated 1.6 bins, and the Steam 1.6 day-of-date with this patch." Full details at the link.

<![CDATA[Frontlines Map Pack Hits Xbox Live]]> Anyone out there still playing Frontlines: Fuel of War? Yes you, in the back. This post is for you then. THQ would like $10 from you so you can play the game on four all new maps with that other guy who is playing. I hear he's already buying it, so you might as well. Four new maps have shown up on Xbox Live this morning, containing two large-scale maps, Wide Awake and Hindsight, and two smaller-scale maps, Infiltration and Sunder. The pack weighs in at 800 points, but that's a small price to pay to get that other guy to quit whining about knowing all the maps already.

Oh, and in case you thought I forgot, arr, matey.

<![CDATA[TimeShift 360 Gets Untimely Free Map Pack]]> Sierra Entertainment is looking to give TimeShift players a boost today as they announce the availability of the Futures-Past Multiplayer Map Pack on Xbox Live today. The pack contains five new maps playable in any of the games myriad multiplayer modes, from the mundane deathmatch to the relatively entertaining King of Time mode. The pack will cost you absolutely nothing to download, as Sierra is most likely desperately trying to drum up interest for the game, a solid title that had the misfortune of being delayed to the point where they had to release it between Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, effectively ensuring that the multiplayer audience for the title would be far too busy doing other, more important things. It's ironic how horribly time has treated TimeShift. I'm just glad they didn't release this map pack within weeks of another blockbuster game with amazing multiplayer was released. Oh wait.

TIRED OF THE SAME OLD TEAM DEATHMATCH?

<![CDATA[Free SOCOM 3, Combined Assault Map Packs Announced]]> socomfree.JPG All eyes may be on the upcoming online only SOCOM Confrontation for the Playstation 3, but that doesn't mean that the SOCOM developers have completely forgotten about their PS2 fan base.

The team just announced the release of a new downloadable map pack for SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault. This third downloadable map pack includes SOCOM and SOCOM II maps Crossroads, Fishhook, Frostfire and Guidance.

Crossroads is a SOCOM II urban map based in North Africa. Crossroads consistently ranks as the most popular classic SOCOM map and a next generation version of Crossroads will be featured in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Demolition and Control gametypes.

Fishhook is a SOCOM II map based on a seaside North African village. It is playable with up to 16 players in a day or night setting in Suppression, Extraction, Control and Breach gametypes.

Frostfire is a SOCOM map which features an oil drilling platform off of the coast of Alaska. It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Control and Demolition gametypes.

Guidance is a SOCOM II map which features an ex-soviet military base in Russia. It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Demolition and Control gametypes.

The best part, the new map pack is totally free. Sounds like just the thing to hold me over until SOCOM Confrontations hits in September.

<![CDATA[Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack Details]]> April 3rd will see the launch of Call of Duty 4: Game of the Year Edition and with it, the roll out of the Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack. Each copy of COD4:GOTY will come with a download token for the new multi-player maps, or you can download it from XBL for 800 MS points. Here's a quick rundown of the details:

The Variety Map Pack includes four new multiplayer maps. "Creek" is a wide-open village ravaged by combat where concealment is the difference between life and death. In "Broadcast," fight throughout an enemy communications building with confined corridors and wide-open parking lots. "Chinatown" is a foggy downtown district, lit only by a full moon and the neon glow of the city. "Killhouse" features a desolate training warehouse filled with a variety of building mock-ups and soft and hard cover points.

More details including an early sneak peek of the maps at select GameStops can be found on the Xbox COD website.

<![CDATA[Red Versus Blue On Halo 3 Map Pack]]>
The Red Versus Blue guys bring their cheeky, dare I saw whimsical, sense of humor to this preview of the upcoming Halo 3 map pack. On second thought, strike the whimsical, anything that involves shooting a huge set of balls at someone's face could probably use a better adjective.

<![CDATA[Halo Halloween Hijinks Coming]]> icanhasrecon.jpg

Frankie doesn't spill much over at Bungie, but he does mention that the multiplayer design team is cooking up a special Halloween treat for Halo 3 players.

Our multiplayer design teams are hard at work on a couple of things. One of them is a fun, seasonal addition to the matchmaking playlist which should keep you entertained for about 27 hours around Halloween. No specifics yet, but suffice it to say that if you want to spend your witchy holiday playing Halo 3, we'll give you some spooktacular reasons to do so.

Frankie then commences to tease us again with little detail about the first downloadable map pack that will be coming to the game, talking about how he first hated a map he nicknamed Purple Reign because of its symmetry and now he loves it. Bah!

On a bright note he did hand out two sets of Recon Armor to gamers who suffered particularly embarrassing deaths in the game. The Rubber Bullet guy and the guy who managed to shoot himself in the head with his own Sniper Rifle both got a set.

<![CDATA[New Gears Map Pack Hits Thursday]]>

Well lookie here, a new Gears of War map pack that we didn't see coming. The Hidden Fronts Multiplayer Map Pack will include four new maps:

Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.

Garden:
This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.

Process:
Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.

Subway: Timgad's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

The map pack goes on sale at 9 a.m. GMT on Thursday for 800 points, or you can just wait until Sept. 3 and get it for free.

<![CDATA[G.R.A.W. PC Map Pack No. 2 On Its Way]]>

If you just can't get enough G.R.A.W. — and let's face it, who doesn't enjoy putting down another Mexican taco insurgency? — Ubisoft has word that a second map pack is coming to the PC. Quoth Ubi:

Today we're releasing more information about the GRAW PC Map Pack #2. See below for 2 screenshots, each detailing a new game mode that will be added with the map pack. Additionally, this map pack will implement the death cam, a feature showing you how you died and who shot you. This pack is still in development, aiming for a release at the end of July or beginning of August.

Which is all well and good if you've got the PC version, but those of you on XBox Live are G.R.A.W. S.O.L.
