Read: It is not the ads, it is the distasteful additions and remodeling of the virtual environments to accommodate said ads.
Baseball fans are some of the most passionate around, and messing with their virtual environment just to make a buck and not pass it along is whack.

Absolutely unacceptable. Now, I'm not a huge sports game player, but there should never, never be a case where a stadium is altered in a game-changing manner for the purpose of adding fucking advertisements. Out-of-play alterations, while mildly annoying, are acceptable, but if you're going to change the dimensions of the field, it might as well not be called Wrigley Field, or Yankee Stadium, or Minute Maid Park anymore.

The ivy on the wall is too bright and what happened to the grass area? Oh well. I'll most likely pick up The Show this year and hopefully NBA 2K9/10 sometime.

The 2k kung fu fighting pitching mechanics are hardly innovative or worth going through just to through a change or a curve.
I wish 2k players well!

But again, if you're making the fences taller, just to accomodate ads? Oh yes, at that point, you're officially doing it wrong.
If playing field dimensions are not real-life accurate, then I'd want to know that none of the advertisement/packaging states that the ballparks are 100% authentic. Leave the ballpark alone and just find some other way to cram in your ads, please.
Even a 1/1000 chance can make a difference-- just ask Moises Alou or Tony Tarasco...

Now we have games going above and beyond just for a few more bucks?
Tossing more ads on one of the most nostalgic and classic stadiums in the country is pretty sad. At least when I go there and deal with ads I get a cold glass of Old Style choke it down. :)

Not that those companies are undeserving; obviously someone somewhere didn't keep the balance sheet in check considering mounting losses for pretty much every company stateside.

It's an exclusive, that alone makes it not better.
02/15/09
What? That makes no sense whatsoever. Suddenly a game drops in quality because certain people can't play it? If you want to quabble over exclusivity then maybe you should ask yourself why a multiplatform game needs all these ads and an exclusive title doesn't. I'm sure the extra sales would make up for whatever player union contracts 2K would have to pay

Please, The Show trumps MVP now. That game did not age well.
02/15/09
And I was a huge MVP fan, and loved the PC modded game. But it is not contest now. The Show surpassed that parallel.

I dunno, I bet it will be a Dodger or a Cub!
Though I wouldn't mind seeing Pedroia on the cover. Dude just screams overachiever!

ugh... dear god no Red Sox players, or Yankees for that matter. The last thing we need is another honor for an overpaid player. They should support the players who really stand out among the teams that don't have analysts up their asses 24/7 and have to work for everything they get. I'm not a fan but on that criteria putting a Pittsburg Pirate like LaRoche or McClouth on the cover would be in great taste.
If it were up to me I'd like to see Grady Sizemore on the cover. The guys a human highlight reel. He just earned his second gold glove this year and had a 30/30 (HR/steals) season. Thats not exactly something to sneer at.

Pedroia makes league minimum... and all baseball players are overpaid in retrospect.
As a baseball fan I can understand your jest, as a marketer though, they want a player and team that is recognizable. So Pirates = no.
If you knew anything about the 5'8" tall Pedroia and his hell of a work ethic, and having 213 hits, Gold Glove, and MVP talks ... you would understand. Hell even Ozzie Guillen said he wishes every player in the league played with that guys heart and ethic.

It really wasn't a pleasant experience. I kind of hope I never have to go through that again.
