"EAT ME!"

What the fuck are we supposed to do with livestock? They are essentially walking refrigerators. Do you think you could just let millions of chickens, cows, and pigs go into the wild and they would survive? They've been domesticated for thousands of years and could not survive in the natural world. While I think we should treat them well while they are alive and kill them instantly/humanely, PETA just fucking pisses me off (and I believe hurts their cause) by distributing ridiculous propaganda and proposing things like making Ben & Jerry's with human breast milk.
11/20/08
Vegetarians, even, I can understand, if you're truly averted to meat for personal reasons (just don't find it palatable, body can't digest it, etc.)
But vegans. Fuck vegans. Saying you won't drink milk or eat eggs or even fucking BEANS is just a poor attempt at being trendy. I liken it to someone who insists that dressing "emo" is for themselves and not so they'll be socially noticed and accepted by other idiots.

This is why PETA aren't taken seriously.
And then the rest of us have to be associated with them..

I don't want to play anymore.

Example: This fellow.
For the most part, the gamer response to this whole situation has been to laugh at PETA, wonder about the legality of the "parody" and then joke about how unintentionally entertaining the game was.
11/20/08
I wonder what side you're on.
In all seriousness, if the weary vegetarians/vegans realized most of the posts were aimed at PETA and not them, there would be a lot less controversy.

I enjoyed PETA's parody, and I think Majesco responded in a very clever, and classy way, and now that has opened up genuine dialog with a very good proposal: A Cooking Mama game that is strictly vegetarian.

I never understood this kind of thing. I kill a cow and i have food for one or two weeks. You kill a plant and... well... you need to KILL more that one LIVING BEING for a meal.
if you don't eat it because you say it's unhealthy, that's ok. Do as you please. But don't come saying you are protecting life by doing that.
yeah, i'm ranting... i'm in a bad mood... what can i do?
=P

You really equate killing and eating a vegetable with killing an animal that has a BRAIN? That's just plain stupid.
Animals have feelings and feel pain. Vegetables do not. That is the difference.
11/20/08
Those inhuman monsters. What with their eating other living creatures to survive.
You sound like that other guy a few pages back who said mudering a human is the same as eating a hamburger.
11/20/08
Yeah but we don't have to eat meat to survive.
But I am not going to waste my time listing off the many reasons to be a vegetarian. I know I can't change someone's mind over the kotaku forum, and quite frankly, I don't care what you eat. It's a personal decision.

No, the difference is that Animals taste better, and fill my tummy more than a carrot, which I will also add in my Beef Stew :-p

Here at Kotaku (and other Gawker Media blogsites), the fact that an organization that has nothing to do with interactive entertainment attempts to jeer and smear a good and positive role-model videogame that features no human violence (argueably NO violence), and had incensed the gaming community in general.
We have talked about the widest of all things involving gaming, however close or lose in ties. The fact that it strikes furthered debate on the various forumed topics that spawn from said PETA/Cooking Mama fiasco only branches off to commentaries from both sides of the topic.
There were hardly any complaints when politics, movies, television, music, etc. enter the forums of interactive entertainment. PETA is not exempt from this, nor is any topic.
My interpretation: Gamers in general, including myself are cynics, often against "political correctness", since it goes against Darwinism to a degree (seriously, crying and hurt feelings are for the weak; the fit adapt to opposing words of varying degrees.) Here, you will find people of both extremes arguing/discussing their points, and some with great passion on the topic displayed.
Myself? I don't care what you eat. But I know I will still eat tasty morsels of meat, and I know that I will also have veggies with it, as I am an Omnivore. I laugh at those who think they can/will strongarm people into guilt (pick a subject, and you will find these people), and I will just shrug my shoulders when someone disagrees with me.
But I will certainly poke satire on any given topic. Because there are some things that I just find flat out hillarious.
But no, I refuse to agree to any censoring of the arguements/discussions. Both sides have had their say, and that reflects where we are as a community.
Whether anyone likes it or not.

Thanks for giving an explanation for your viewpoint, instead of just poking satire. I have a much better understanding now of where the hostility stems from, and it hadn't occurred to me before that gamers aren't necessarily the most liberal of groups.
For the record, I'm obviously not advocating censorship of any argument, as I've tried to involve myself in them here as much as possible. I'm pretty accustomed to having to defend my stance on the issue of vegetarianism, and I'm used to people repeating all of the same misinformation and half-truths. I'm new to the forums here, and I guess you can say I'm a bit naive about how strongly the gaming community will stand up for what they view(and I don't dispute) as a brand with a positive message to promote. I personally take no issue whatsoever with Majesco or Cooking Mama, and I do not in any way defend PETA.
11/21/08
I should also quickly point out that the Gawker blogsites are quick to remind that this is NOT a forum, despite the format medium of giving and recieving responses. Forums allow anything to occur. Here, there are strict rules in the way one posts.
But most importantly, have fun on the discussions! You would be suprised to see how much middle ground you would find, despite disagreements here and there.
It is not about liberal, radical, progressive or conservative. It is about gaining the collective of those thoughts from the individuals of all types.

Because, you know, a Thanksgiving with only cabbage, is only a salad party.
11/20/08
Can they do that!?
11/20/08
Got the sauce?
11/20/08
Most people that I know are vegetarian/vegan because of ANIMAL CRUELTY issues. The treatment of them BEFORE they are slaughtered. Factory farming is atrocious.
Get back to reality, peeps.
Someone read "Ishamel" in here and get a clue :)
11/20/08
Reality is that PETA will NEVER stop Omnivorism. :)
11/20/08
Fuck you. I eat chicken about 65% of my meals a week. The rest of it is beef.
Sometimes I don't even cook side items for myself. I just eat the meat. Stop telling me to have feelings for animals. In my experience growing up, chickens, turkeys cows and pigs are dumb as fuck.
I've personally killed 3 pigs and 4 turkeys over my life time. Enjoy knowing what a TERRIBLE person I am. At least I'm not forcing my beliefs on others.
I've also tried vegan "beef" burgers. Shit smelled and taste like SHIT smells. I don't eat shit like Shooter McGavin.
Good day to you,
Manji

11/20/08
All of this because PETA wants to save a few hundred dumb animals. Do your part, kids, and eat as many animals as you can!
11/20/08
Fields would not likely grow barren as long as you switch your crops around (as discovered during our awesome agricultural ages), but given the amount of people on this planet, there's simply not enough space on this planet to feed everyone (which would also include the animals we haphazardly release into a wild where they cannot live). We'd need at least to fertilize Mars and I don't see that happening in quite a bit.
Also, we don't need to be zombies to turn into cannibals should your scenario happen.

Way to stay above the childish infighting.
No, really. You're an example to us all
