absolutely stunning. the first mafia is still one of my favorites, and i think this is definitely my most anticipated title! vito and joe look like they'll be tearing up the town soon!
ALRIGHT. FOR ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT WISH TO KNOW THE ENDING DO NOT READ SPIDERS88 POST. I REPLIED TO THE THREAD, IT GOT PROMOTED AND NOW IS ON THE FEATURED PAGE. I apologize immensely, i was just trying to reply and now it is on the front page...
@raffleking: hey thanks... i was stressing a bit. it seems as though anything i respond to, type, or want to comment on for some reason gets promoted. i really wish that did have a spoiler alert- good reasoning on your part!
looks fantastic the 1st game on pc was amazing and the story was top notch. It was about a cabbie who ends up joining the mob and moves up the ranks until they betray him and he goes into witness protection. The whole story was amazing up to the point 20 years later when they find him old getting the morning newspaper and kill him. Gonna have to find that game and play it again to hold out until this one.
@Spiders88: indeed SPOILER ALERT homes! you gotta tag it for all those who have not experienced it! definitely one of the best game endings ever but no need to write it up here!
@Adhominem: alright hold on! i did not promote this! i just replied, and it automatically got promoted. i do not know why, and i surely as hell didn't mean for this to happen! sheesh. i was just trying leave it be!
Wow... gave me a heart attack. Whenever I see "demo released," I think playable demo. So I go dashing off to corners of the internet frothing at the mouth with equal parts anxiety and impatience only to find that I'm an idiot.
I am so psyched for this game. Been waiting ever since I finished playing through the first one. Great story, great characters and emotional investment, great conclusive ending.
@jandlecack: Yeah man, I'm jazzed as hell for this. I haven't played the first one since it came out (God, was that 2002? It feels like a million years ago). At first I hated some of the realism in it, like how there was a speed limit in town, but later on I was like "you know what, that was ballsy of them" and it worked. I think it's one of the only open world sandbox games to actually HAVE speed limits, and it added another realm of immersion.
@DanTheMagnum: Ha yeah man. I know it might sound kinda lame, trust me it took awhile to get used to. Like any open world game, as soon as I had access to a vehicle I just started going apeshit in town, but before I could even run over ANYONE the cops were on me for going 65! I hated that at first but later on I thought it was a cool touch.
@raffleking: Remember the mission where you had to rough up the car at the beginning? I drove away and two car fulls of mobsters chased me down. As I sped away a cop got on my tail; thinking I could use this I pulled over.
It started the cinematic of the cop giving me a ticket outside of our cars. The 2 mob cars park and everyone gets out and surrounds me in a large circle perhaps 30 feet wide. The cop walks away and they begin to shoot me.
I shot back, the cop tries to stop me.
I lost. And the cop AI was a little 'odd', but it is still one of those moments in gaming that I'll probably always remember. Cinematic, brutal, hilarious, fun.
@dreamfall: Yeah, that part of the game was terribly different and unfortunately terribly annoying. I remember they released a save game that starts off right after winning that racing event just because of the backlash.
i like this. most of the big games im wanting wont get dumped together just before the holidays and leave me catching up in the slow months of spring. plus, like they said, these delays mean more time to tighten up...sounds like a good call.
It'll be nice once we're able to enjoy quality, triple-A releases all year round. The "summer drought" has always seemed strange to me. Would Modern Warfare 2 not sell as well if it came out in July?
Perhaps with more and more publishers relying on their own blogs and community sites to get the word out on their games, as opposed to relying on the regularly scheduled industry events, different developers will be able to get on different production schedules resulting in a more even and steady stream of releases.
@CarmenPurpureo: Holiday sales are one thing. Maybe the competition from summer movies and general fun summer activities has something to do with it also.
I'm actually really excited for both Bioshock 2 and Mafia 2, those are two of the only games I planned on picking up so it's a shame for me that they're coming out around the same time. Especially now that Max Payne 3 is up there, I'll most likely have to pick that up too... sorry wallet :(

Exactly what I was going to say. These screenshots are absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to play this game, as I loved the first one.

About the speed limit; indeed, that was very charming to me once I got used to the whole feel of the game.
