@MaxDragon7: Honestly though, the Madden franchise should have a many years left to go. Madden is a legend, and his name will stay with the franchise for as long as the franchise exists, most likely. The series also has a strong fan-base willing enough to support and keep the series going for a long time.
I don't see this franchise out of the game anytime soon.
It will continue to be milked until its saggy old teats are no good for anything anymore, at which point a new young thing with perky, milk-laden breasts will be hooked up to the milking machine. Repeat ad infinitum.
I personally didn't care for 2K5. For all of the features and brilliant ideas that other series have had, no one can compare to the gameplay mechanics of Madden. It is simply too iconic for another title to overcome.
@willyt9: What's too iconic? The fact that we're in the year 2009 and up until last year they we're still using pre-rendered tackles. Just a bunch of animations. And when they finally include the feature, it's innovative. The last good Madden was 05, when they last had competition. And how do you know no one can improve the gameplay mechanics, when no one else gets a chance at the NFL.
When I want to play a video game of football (whether it be sim or arcade) I don't want to struggle with the controls to figure out how to play it. I want to pick it up and simulate football, period. I want a playbook that is easy to wade through and smartly organized. I want intuitive controls when it comes to picking a receiver or executing a defensive scheme.
When I pick up Madden, this is all instantly familiar and thus easily useable. It could have the greatest "Career" mode and the best "fly Crib" add-on, but none of that means shit to me. I want to be able to easily find cover 3 and have a playbook that allows me to do several variations off of the same offensive package easily.
I'll agree that EA got pretty lazy in 06 and 07. That said, I have never played another football game whose controls are even equal to Madden let alone superior.
To me 90% of the hate Madden gets comes from the same people that bitch about GTA IV. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Millions of other people will and EA will use the profits from their purchases to bankroll titles like Dead Space etc.
Listening to Madden explain football negates any positive effects, though.
"What you got here is two teams trying to get a touchdown! The problem is, there's only one ball on the gridiron! Two teams, one ball! Four downs! One hundred yards! Numbers! Brett Favre!"
"A good strategy here is to score some points. The more points you have, the more likely you are to win!"
