I certainly appreciate the effort to bring more games to the mac, but it does seem odd to choose a game that has already been released across multiple platforms. I would rather see PC-only games being ported to mac. It makes sense that many mac-owning gamers wouldn't have Windows (since dissatisfaction with Windows is a primary reason why people switch), but it's hard to imagine a serious gamer that wouldn't have access to at least one main gaming platform.
Personally I would really like to see more PC-based quirky indie games ported to the mac.
Wait... What the hell are they doing? The PC port was already as crap as it gets, why make things worse? And... Doesn't Mac have bootcamp, assuming it has worthy enough hardware to run this thing?
After reading your comment, I tried it out with a GEFORCE GTX 260M CUDA 1GB, and the experience with Dolby Home Theater IMHO were much better than the 360 experience.

I'm not so sure I see the point here. Bioshock requires Shader Model 3.0. If you have a Mac that supports Shader 3.0, guess what? You also have an Intel Mac, and can run Boot Camp. And if you have a Mac and care about games, that's what Boot Camp was there for on day one.
Any chance of Feral Interactive doing a few ports to the PC?
I'd love to see Shadow Complex or Castle Crashers on the PC (just in case they read Kotaku: by love, I mean pay money for it on release day over Steam). Or maybe even Fable 2 if they wish to do a full game.
@krushjudgement: yea dude, I enjoy my PC but unfortunately its not very good for any gaming uses.
and since I'm an art student I have to use a Mac at school.
switching between the two has been messing with me though, cause I went to right click on my home comp and pressed down the Ctrl button first, only to be slightly confused once nothing happened when I clicked.
then I did it again....and felt slightly dumb.
either way, sticking to consoles has always been my best bet in the end. At least they don't confuse me.....unless I've been switching between my 360 and ps2 a lot. Damn the X button and its multiple placements!
I had an Xbox for a while, and... That was a nightmare, as I still like old SNES games. The fact that the xbox has the same letters, but flipped was even worse...Xbox was easily the most difficult button scheme to get used to... At least the 360 had bumpers instead of those awkward white and black buttons.
@TrjnRabbit: I tried to play myst recently.... but my computer apparently hates me and flipped the screen upside-down. once I fixed that, it immediately quit the program. I guess I won't be helping any random people trapped in books ever again!
@bobtheduck: I think staying away from mystical books is just the best idea for everyone. Cause seriously, bad guys masquerading as good guys are usually the ones trapped in a book.

We're Feral Interactive, and we're here to ask you a question. Is a Mac user not entitled to enjoy the latest offerings in the FPS genre? "No", says the man in Cupertino, "because that's for nerds and their PCs". "No", says the man in Redmond, "because your pathetic little Mac can't handle gaming software". "No", say the people in Kotaku comments, "because Macs are hella lame". We rejected those answers; instead, we chose something different. We chose the impossible. We chose... BioShock for Mac, available October 7th.
I'm a Mac user but the only games I play on my MBP are WoW, Spore and Braid. I use my 360 for the rest.
Still, it's pretty funny to see the ignorants running around thinking that Mac users don't game. Get your heads out of your asses, fanboys.
@fanboyish: Its not that people assume Mac users don't game at all.
We just assume most Mac users don't game on their Macs.
Which is a fairly decent assumption. Without the use of Bootcamp, Mac's non-DirectX friendly OS does severely limit the amount of games beyond those with mass appeal like Wow or Sims.
@deanbmmv: Thank you. I think fanboyish missed the point. No one games ON their mac. That's completely different from saying that mac users don't game.
@JDickson87: Actually, even this isn't quite true. I have lost track of how many mac games I own.... I know I have over 200 game CDs/DVDs, which probably represents about 150 games that I've played on my Mac (since the mid-90s when I started buying CD-ROM games, I've unfortunately misplaced most floppys). While I currently mostly play WoW, World of Goo, Red Alert 2 and a few games like that on them, I still use my Macs to play games. Even more than my Wii actually ;) Because Nintendo still charge full price for non-port games that are older than BioShock.
I do however play more games on my PS3 and 360 than on the Mac.
The thing is though. I never understood the part about "this game is two years old, it sucks!" What does age have to do with it? If it's a good game it's a good game and if it sucks it doesn't help if it was released yesterday. Mac ports are charged full price because it the only way they can break even on them. It's a brand new product, with a separate development (port) cycle with a separate team working to optimize a product for a whole new platform. It's not to wave the magic wand and have a port and get free money from it. They have to eat as well.
I'm willing to pay for my entertainment if I know there's a reason for the price, and knowing several people in the Mac gaming industry (or neighborhood or whatever you'd like to call it since industry sounds so big), I know they're not doing it for profit, they do it because THEY want to see more games on the Mac, but they need everybody's help in buying them to make it go round.

Also "only the computers it is played on will be slightly more expensive and prettier to look at."

As with computer equipment, results may vary.

But any 360 game that manages to output 0,5 FPS at most times on a 9800GTX is guilty of witchcraft in my book.

@lionkitten: Stuff like OnLive n GaiTaka could be a real boon to mac's on gaming. Just sucks that it's currently semi-impossible.
