"Luigi: A life in the shadows" cover the other brother's origins from palette swap to star of his own (two) video games. Anybody else remember playing Mario is Missing? Yeah, that game starred Luigi.

Best bit? Right here...

But Luigi's heart has strayed at least once during the previously mentioned Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. The Beanbean Kingdom the two stars explore has a prince to match the Mushroom Kingdom's Princess Peach. Prince Peasley is a dashing (if self-absorbed) pretty boy, who throughout the game slowly gains Luigi's attention. As time goes on, Luigi seems almost enamored with Peasley, blushing at his compliments and eventually trying to hug him, which Peasley deftly dodges, as Peasley seems to only love himself. But this bi-curious side of Luigi has yet to return, as he's since stayed pretty true to Daisy. However, that hasn't stopped the devs of the M&L series from continuing to ramp up Luigi's effeminacy to Tingle levels of fab.

I totally did not know that. I thought when Luigi wasn't with Daisy, he was letting Peach cheat on Mario with him. Also, I thought John Leguizamo and Samantha Mathis as the "ideal" Luigi/Daisy couple.

Check it out, if you're a little Luigi-curious:

<![CDATA[So John Krasinski plays Jim Halpert on the...]]> So John Krasinski plays Jim Halpert on the office. Surprisingly enough, in one of the episodes in season 4, he is wearing a fake mustache, and thats where my geeky 6th sense kicks in and I notice, he looks a lot like Luigi. Ok, granted the mustache is pointing downwards while Luigi’s are pointing upwards. Still, am I the only one who sees the similarity here?

<![CDATA[SMB Cross-Stitch: Luigi's Revenge]]> Luigi is mad as hell and he's not going to take it anymore! This vengeful cross stitch has shown up on one of my favorite video game craft websites SpriteStitch.com and was created by the site's owner John. If you'd like, you can even make it your very own as the piece is available for purchase on eBay for a mere $10 (for now). Since I'm poor, I'll be sending this along to Maggie along with an email begging her to make me one for free. If she doesn't agree, I'll simply blackmail her into it with those incriminating photos from the Kotaku Kompany Kristmas party. Oh wait, those were of me. Damn, I really need to stop drinking whiskey...

<![CDATA[Super Smash Bros. Brawl "Battle" Gameplay]]>
What would a day on Kotaku be without the obligatory Super Smash Bros. post? Not being one to fly in the face of tradition, I bring you these nice quality videos of a few fights for your perusal courtesy Gametrailers.com. Displayed above we have Luigi vs Diddy Kong on the Luigi's Mansion stage. The detail in the mansion looks great and I look forward to playing on this stage a lot. After the jump you can check out Solid Snake vs Pit and Bowser vs Ness.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Characters as Kute Kewpie Dolls]]> The iconic Kewpie dolls go way back — like to the early 1900's. (So old!) In Japan, the character is used as the mascot for, are you ready, Kewpie Mayonnaise. So, if you've ever wondered what your favorite Nintendo characters would look like as Kewpie dolls, consider that curiosity satisfied. They were found in Fukuoka, Japan and will give us nightmares. Forever.

<![CDATA[Scary, Scary Mario Bros. Bootlegs]]> One Hong Kong retailer gives us a taste of just what Mario and Luigi would look like if Miyamoto went mad and decided to co-brand the franchise with Nightmare on Elm Street flicks. Seriously, these plush toys are freaky—we're talking clown freaky, or even Cher's cheeks no longer move when she talks, freaky (people still listen to Cher, right?). Plus, we're finding it more than a little gross that the curtains don't match the nose drapes, if you know what we mean.

Thanks Andy, sorry I called you Jason!

<![CDATA[Stoned Luigi Skateboard Deck]]> stonedluigi.jpg Kotakuite Lukas M. sent in this picture, with the following explanation: "I found this yesterday in a skateboarding shop in Berlin. It's a Jeff Lenoce Pro Deck from Baker Skateboards, with what is obviously a stoned Luigi and some weed leaves on it. Unfortunately, it's not on Baker's web site. Would have bought it, too, if the sales person hadn't been such an ass about me touching the precious deck with my seemingly unworthy fingers."

<![CDATA[Japanese Band with Girls Dressed as Mario and Luigi]]> The bassist for Japanese speed metal band Sex Machineguns Kenjirou Murai has moved to trashing to bleeps. After working on the Nana soundtrack album, Murai joined forces with a professional his new group is called PSG, short for Picopico Sound Project. It's even roped in cosplayers (above) as "vocal talent." There are loads of these retro sound bit chip bands, so how does this band stand apart? Just look at those outfits! The buttons are fantastic. CD drops today.

<![CDATA[Mario Family Figure Set Signed by Miyamoto on eBay]]> Here's a nice little find for you Nintendo collectors, especially for those of you who like MIB. Well, technically I suppose the MIB has been ruined by the signature of the genius Miyamoto, but what are you gonna do? This is a boxed set of Nintendo figurines gotten from Japan's awesome Club Nintendo and signed by miyaoto himself complete with little quotes for each of the characters. The set in this form is not available in the U.S. (although you can get the individual ones at the Nintendo World Store) and of course the signature makes it ultra rare. At the time of the writing of this article, there were six bids bring the price up to a reasonable $46 although the reserve has not been met yet. If you want this precious, precious Nintendo treasure for your very own, you have until July 25.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Bobbbleheads]]>

Too cute! Back in 2002, these Nintendo character bobbleheads were released. Yup, Mario, Yoshi, Luigi and Bowser were all immortalized as 17cm tall statues with giant heads that bobble. They even have the official Nintendo stamp of approval. Ah, 2002 was a very good year.

Kotaku fun fact: Crecente has a bobblehead in his own likeness. No, really.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Plot Twist]]>

Wow, that Peach sure does get around. Just a few months back we get an invitation to her wedding to Bowser and now she's marrying Link? But then I think we all know about Peach's questionable morals.

It really reminds me of the illustrations in the Little Golden Books I had as a kid. Some of my favorite parts of this image are Link's tie and the silhouettes of Pikachu, Megaman and Fox McCloud in the background. I also question exactly what Luigi is looking at as he wipes his tears away...

<![CDATA[Clip: The Luigi Story]]>

Film maker Chris Preksta hit us on the tips line to let us know about his short, made in the E! True Hollywood Story fashion a few years back, The Luigi Story. It's an impressive piece of work, one that chronicles the sad rise to fame of that other plumber, consistently second-billed in Nintendo releases. Well, there was Luigi's Mansion, but I was hoping we'd just all try our hardest to forget about that GameCube tech demo.

<![CDATA[These Hats Are Really Pillows!]]>

A while back we brought you news that NCSX was going to be selling these awesome Mario and Luigi hats so you could wear them around town and elicit odd stares from strangers. As a matter of fact, NCSX thought they were selling hats too. But, when the shipment arrived it turned out these hats weren't hats at all, but pillows! Still pretty cool, but if i had been one of those that pre-ordered one of these I'd be pissed. But at least now you can put these on your couch an elicit stares from your friends rather than the cruel nameless hordes.

These impressive Mario and Luigi were created by folding two ¥1,000 bills. Found over at some-guy-named Masa's page, which has paragliding pics AND amazing origami. Besides that full body Mario below, other standouts include cartoon hero Astro Boy, monster Gamera and comedian HG.

<![CDATA[Game Characters Into Beer Pong, Too]]>

Blame the plastic cups. American college students know, love and live "Beer Pong." It's a drinking game in which players attempt to bounce a ping pong in their opponent's cup, forcing them to imbibe it. A couple readers at game site The Last Boss created this wonder:

Just some notes on it about detail which may not be visible: Mario is holding a Guiness bottle, Soda Popinski a Killian, Luigi has a bud light 6er, the Turtles are bathing in Heineken, Link attacking with a broken Corona and Bubble Bobble guys with a bud can beer-amid. The triangles for the cups are the Triforce and they are fully wired under the plexiglass so they light up for night games. My friend Paul T did the crafty cutting and I designed, drew and painted the entire table.

This was created back in 2004, proving that, yes, Beer Pong is timeless.

<![CDATA[Won't You Tell Me How to Get to Itadaki Street?]]>

Familiar Nintendo faces become greedy, real-estate moguls along side some of the character of Square-Enix's Dragon Quest in Itadaki Street, a monopoly-like game from the DS coming out for the Japanese market in June.

Outside of regular Monopoly rules, players can also buy and sell stocks of an entire block of property (affecting their values), and there is also the option to level-up by collecting icons all over the board. Plus there are different boards like Castle of Torodaine, Death Volcano, Giant Demon's Statue and Yoshi's Island, so it's not like being in that Atlantic City Alcatraz for three hours waiting for some one to "JUST BUY BOARDWALK ALREADY SO WE CAN ALL GO HOME."

<![CDATA[Clip: Mario and Luigi Teach Italian]]>

I've always considered Mario's Italian accent to be on a par with the likes of Chico Marx; Not authentic by any means, but close enough for Americans. Brett Simmons directed this funny spoof for a fictitious Mario and Luigi Italian Lesson plan featuring his friends Tristan and Anthony. The opening credits state that this is "Tristan and Anthony's Italian Project" leading me to believe this might have been created as part of a school assignment. As live action Mario and Luigi spoofs go, this one is pretty clever, or at least that's my opinion. I'll let you judge for yourself.

<![CDATA[White Ninja Makes Luigi Cry]]> White Ninja is one of the best comics on the web today, mainly because I could, if pressed, draw better than they do. Fortunately Scott Bevan and Kent Earle can do more with their crappy little drawings and a few choice words than many comics with high-quality artists could ever hope to do. Plus, the main character is a ninja, albeit a very 'special' one.

Since White Ninja rarely if ever has crossed over into the realm of video games, today's comic is a real treat, even if it does manage to make Mario's brother cry and does horrible things to a true video game legend. Hit the link for the comic. Bring tissues.

<![CDATA[What Was The Deal With That Fake Luigi?]]>

Back during the Japan Wii, a dude in a Luigi outfit, handed out the first console and posed for pictures and then got booted in a hurry. But, questions remain: Who was this Luigi? Why was he escorted out? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?! The costume was far too good to be an amateur. Moreover, how could this individual have gotten access to Yodobashi Camera. Logic tells us that it had to be an inside job, someone connected with either Yodobashi or Nintendo. The why, the how and the wtf still remain unanswered. An otaku conspiracy, how cute.

<![CDATA[Fake Luigi Gets Busted At JPN Wii Launch?]]>

While American console launches are rife with shootings, muggings, stampedes, and generally poor displays of human behavior, the Japanese console launches are, at worst, a display of gross otaku fashion and greasiness. Well, I suppose there's that whole mafia hiring of homeless dudes to camp out for PS3s and Wiis thing.

Sadly, now there are cosplayers posing as official Nintendo mascots. Allegedly, this Luigi fan wiggled his way into one Yodobashi Camera launch event, taking part in the festivities in a very unofficial capacity.

After handing out the first Wii and acting very Luigi like, it seems the Nintendo superfan's true identity was discovered and he was quickly escorted from the store. Man, those Yodobashi staffers look pissed!
