Just stick with Lost Planet. It does the giant monster thing, only with guns and robots, which is all people really want.

<![CDATA[Lost Planet Movie Has Nothing To Do With Lost Planet Games]]> So, Capcom, David Hayter and producer Avi Arad are making a Lost Planet movie. If it followed the plot of the games, there'd be robot suits, and there'd be giant bugs. But then, it's not following the plot of the games!

Speaking with G4, Capcom's Jun Takeuchi has said "[There] probably [won't be] so much of a reference to this particular title [Lost Planet 2]."

"However, the only thing I know is those people working on the project that they love the world of Lost Planet. So, we know that they're going to utilize that world, but as far as the story line goes, the movie is completely different from the game."

Who are we kidding. Of course there'll be robot suits and giant bugs.

<![CDATA[Lost Planet 2 Demo Emerges From A Giant Bug Next Week]]> Next Wednesday, Capcom will be giving Xbox 360 owners a taste of Lost Planet 2's fist-bumping, bug-hunting co-operative mode by releasing a demo.

The co-op demo will let you take on the "salamander" boss, give you access to a variety of weapons and suits, then let you climb inside the thing's guts and blow it up from the inside. Messy.

The demo will go live for Gold subscribers on August 19, while Silver users will have to wait until August 26.

<![CDATA[Three Capcom 360 Platinum Hits, One Box]]> What would you do if Capcom bundled together Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4, and Dead Rising into one release at a lower price? Capcom is hoping you'd buy it.

Coming September 8th, the Platinum Hits Triple Pack takes the three Platinum Hits titles and squishes them together into one piece of confused game box art. Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising, and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition are then packed into a DVD case affixed with said art, making for one lovely bundle of three games, at least two of which you've already played. Even at the bargain price of $39.99, this bundle probably isn't for you. I would imagine that a parent purchasing a first Xbox 360 for their teenager this holiday season will find the lure of three acclaimed titles in one package extremely alluring. If my mother rolled up Christmas morning with a new 360 and the Platinum Hits Triple Pack, I would feel horrible for only printing her out a card on my inkjet again this year.

<![CDATA[Some New Lost Planet 2 Screens For You]]> It's Comic-Con time. That means, perversely, it's time for video game news and video game media. Early out of the gates are these Lost Planet 2 screenshots. And yes. There are both mech suits and giant bugs.

<![CDATA[New Lost Planet 2 Screens]]> While there were giant bugs in the first Lost Planet, all I remember are snowstorms and robot suits. Looking at these new screens of Lost Planet 2, it's OK, Capcom, I get it: in the sequel, there are giant bugs.

<![CDATA[Fan-Made iPhone Wallpapers Look Familiar]]> Surprisingly, there's more than just Street Fighter in this lineup of fan-made Capcom wallpapers. Mega Man, Duck Tales and Lost Planet feature prominently plus some games I'm not even sure I can name.

Capcom blogger CurlehMustache put these wallpapers together to celebrate the release of the new iPhone 3Gs Friday. Here's the instructions for getting them onto your phone:

If you find one that you like, save the enlarged non-iPhone image to your iPhone/iPod touch and set it as your wallpaper. They look fantastic shrunken down on the small screen. I made sure the dimensions were spot on so that there would be no need to move the image around when setting it.

If there isn't one you like, Curleh also has a thread for users to post their own. Check 'em out and let me know if anyone throws up one for Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Then I might actually get around to buying an iPhone — for real this time.

<![CDATA[Capcom Investigating Other Platforms For Lost Planet 2]]> We're fairly sure that Lost Planet 2, despite its press release's decidedly pro-360 slant, will not be exclusive to the Xbox 360. Capcom's Jun Takeuchi today only further reinforces that belief.

When asked by GameDaily whether the game would be exclusive to the 360, Takeuchi's response was simply "We are currently investigating other platforms." Not exactly a resounding "yes", is it? If we were Microsoft, and had spent some money on securing some half-baked "platform announcement exclusivity" deal, we'd be starting to wonder why we'd bothered.

<![CDATA[Capcom & Valve Practically Giving Lost Planet Away]]> Did you hear? Lost Planet 2 is coming! Time for some cut-throat marketing, which this week comes courtesy of Capcom & Valve's Lost Planet sale on Steam.

Yes, for this weekend and this weekend only, PC owners can forget about paying $20 for the game, and instead pay only $5. Look, we know, Lost Planet isn't the greatest game on the planet, but it's definitely worth $5.

<![CDATA[New Dead Rising And Lost Planet Mentioned, Might Be Multi-Platform]]> In an interview in the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Capcom exec Keiji Inafune mentioned new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games. More importantly, he talked about the games going multi-platform.

According to Inafune, "We're finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games! As a main principle we're thinking about multi-platform and about slightly expanding upon the Xbox 360 version."

He goes on to talk about the business of gaming and gaming promotion. Don't take this as confirmation that the next Dead Rising will be multi-platform — Lost Planet already was. Just don't be surprised when Dead Rising 2, like pretty much all Capcom games, is.

In fact, if Capcom's statements to its shareholders are anything to go on, you can guarantee all future games will be multi-plat.

<![CDATA[Lost Planet Is A Big, Big Movie]]> The Resident Evil movies were B-grade stuff. The upcoming Street Fighter movie does not look promising. But Capcom are making more movies, and Lost Planet is one of them. And on that, they are not messing around.

Capcom's Toshihiro Tokumaru - the company's character boss - has revealed that the budget for Avi Arad's adaptation of the 2007 shooter is between $150,000,000 and $200,000,000.

That's, uh...that's a lot of money. Big, Hollywood, summer tentpole kinda money. Silly money, really, considering we're talking the adaptation of a game that did OK business but will end up looking like the big-screen bastard child of The Thing and Starship Troopers.

<![CDATA[Lost Planet Movie Confirmed]]> MGS actor and Hollywood writer David Hayter said, a few weeks back, that a deal to bring Lost Planet to the big screen was "not entirely confirmed yet". Is now! Variety are reporting that the project's a done deal, with Warner Bros. to distribute, former Marvel pictures boss Avi Arad to produce and Hayter to write. Capcom will be contributing at least some, if not all of the money for the movie, though there's no word on a release window. Expect more info at Capcom's E3 event tomorrow.

<![CDATA[Lost Planet The Movie By Solid Snake Is Just Shy Of Confirmed]]> The voice of Solid Snake says that the film adaptation of Capcom's Lost Planet is this close — you can't see, but my fingers are but a hair's-breadth apart — to being confirmed, pending a deal with Warner Bros. That deal, David Hayter says, is "just closing" but "not entirely confirmed yet" according to a report from IGN.

It's good news for Lost Planet fans — and not just because of Hayter's screenwriting nerd cred based on his X-Men and Watchmen scripts — because the man cares deeply about the source material.

"There is gap in Hollywood between people who write good movies and those who appreciate good video games," Hayter said. The man with the trademark voice says he tries "to make an effort to take the essence of the game, keep as much of that as possible, and still put it into a proper film structure." Yes, yes, but will it feature bug shooting? 'Cause bug shooting is key.

<![CDATA[Somebody Wants To Make A Lost Planet Movie?]]> Yesterday's episode of Evil Avatar's podcast featured as a special guest David "Voice of Solid Snake" Hayter. They got chatty, they talked Metal Gear, but something else they talked about was Hayter's other line of work: as a Hollywood writer. Over the year's, Hayters worked on movies like X-Men 1 & 2 and the Scorpion King, and he's even at work on the upcoming Watchmen flick as well. Seems he's also in discussions with both Capcom and Warner Bros to write a screenplay for a Lost Planet movie. Interesting choice, Capcom. Can't say I enjoyed the game too much, but the setting could work as a flick, especially if it's pitched at the Chronicles of Riddick end of the budget/market.

<![CDATA[Capcom To Announce "Or Something Like That" Soon?]]> Bionic Commando Wii? Unannounced. Lost Planet Wii? Ditto. "Or Something Like This?" Will be announced soon. Via a Q&A with Capcom's Christian Svensson. Read on:

Question: Are we going to see Bionic Commando, Lost Planet or something like this on the Wii?

Svensson: Possible... the "or something like this" part we could talk about in a couple weeks perhaps.

We cannot wait to learn about "Or Something Like This." It sounds like a fantastic game.

<![CDATA[Bionic Commando, Lost Planet Comic Books Comin']]> Capcom has partnered with Devil's Due Publishing—apparently I'm out of the comic book publisher loop—to introduce a series of comic book titles based on properties like Bionic Commando and Lost Planet. The video game publisher already has a line of comics based on the Street Fighter universe published by Udon, who in turn is providing artwork for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

The press release, via the official Capcom blog, hints that additional and unannounced Capcom books will be revealed at the San Diego Comic Con this July. It does not, however, indicate if we'll get backstory that explains why Bionic Commando has sausage-filled limbs. My own theory is that he was bitten by a radioactive hot dog while on a field trip, giving him the proportionate strength and speed of a frank that plumps when you cook it. That's totally speculative, though.

Press release follows.

DEVIL’S DUE PARTNERING WITH CAPCOM® ENTERTAINMENT ON NEW COMICS

New titles to include Bionic Commando® and Lost Planet™

Chicago, IL. (May 13, 2008) – This year, one of the biggest names in cutting-edge action comics will team with one of the most respected publishers and developers of video games, as Devil’s Due announces a new publishing deal with Capcom®. As part of an expansive package, Devil’s Due will launch four new titles based on Capcom game properties, including Bionic Commando® and Lost Planet™.

“DDP is very excited to be joining forces with Capcom,” said DDP President Josh Blaylock. “Not only are these awesome games, but they have great stories behind them ripe for comics, including a vintage classic with Bionic Commando that’s been revived along with the new sequel.”

<![CDATA[Capcom Buys Tenchu Devs]]> Capcom announced over the weekend that they've bought K2 Studios, best known for their work on the more recent, more rubbish Tenchu games, as well as Valhalla Knights . That's probably not the reason for the purchase, though: K2 also did some outsource work for Capcom on Lost Planet, and are also helping SNK with the latest Samurai Shodown. The move's aimed at making Capcom's "game development activities more efficient and speedy", while "Capcom also believes that pursuing a business strategy based on closer ties with K2 will help increase the value of the entire Capcom Group". And hey, who are we to argue.
