1994’s FPS-RPG, System Shock, is an important game. It was an influence on not just BioShock and its sequels, but also a variety of game series in between, like Half-Life and Deus Ex. It was also a bitch to play on modern PCs, which is fortunately something this re-release should help with.
The Thief Gold HD Texture Mod has hit version 1.0 after a couple years’ development, turning Looking Glass Studios’ 15+ year old stealth-em-up a lot... well, I wouldn’t say prettier, ‘cause Thief’s universe is hardly pretty. But still, those are some impressive visuals. Might try this on my next playthrough.
System Shock's one of those games that lots of descendant creations owe a huge debt to. If you're a fan of moody, story-centric first-person experiences like Deus Ex or BioShock, then you should be watching some of System Shock's creators play it right now.
