This is the FF that champions angst. As such, some people look entirely too deeply into the game, some people worship it as understanding their teenage years, and other people defined their teenage years by it.

The gameplay is great, but the story is even sillier and more childish than IX's. The difference? IX knew how silly it was, didn't take itself seriously, and was much more enjoyable as a result.

Still love 8 though.

I despised this game. The forced love story, the lack of transition with the story, the annoying "emoness " of Squall and the leveling system that was broken by the junction system. With that all said, the presentation was absolutely phenomenal.

VIII is in so many ways superior to VII.

Its too bad that people wont stop jerking it to Cloud and Sephiroth to actually realize this.

I love the CG cutscenes and story but FFVIII is nowhere near the best FF game in my opinion. The gameplay bored me to death.

This was my second favorite game in the series, primarily because it was so beautiful. I was always looking forward to what they'd show me, and it never disappointed (except for the first "eyes on me" sequence which I was hoping would be a pre-rendered cutscene, not just a dialogue box) I did like the story, and the battle system too (though I wasn't as good at it as some friends) and I was an ace at boost on the GFs... (Hmm... I wonder if THAT could be where my carpal tunnel came from... That or the torture scene in MGS)

My favorite remains 6, but this game is sorely under appreciated...

the ballroom scene WAS awesome.

i personally don't think any Final Fantasy games of late have come anywhere near the Playstation 1 trilogy(7,8 and 9)

remember going right down in the ground to release the garden gears,so it could be mobile?.....damn good times

i got to disc 4,but stopped...its still a title i haven't finished

@Marty McFly: I kinda liked being able to steal moves from enemies... but it was still not very good. My fingers got Select button imprints on them from increasing my Guardian Force's damage while its attack cinematic was playing

@ShaSt One: If you like being able to steal moves from enemies, play Breath of Fire III. Not only does stealing moves in that game require skill and a bit of luck - you get to KEEP the move you steal! What a concept!

Me, and like 5 other people on various websites I go to all started replaying this. Then this article? My God, what's with right now and this game. It really is an amazing game, though. Definitely my favorite FF game.
