I don't care how cool a peripheral looks, my absolute limit is 100 per. And for me to go that high I have to be pretty confident that I'm gonna be able to use it for other games too.
I know there's always a comment of "You should play a real guitar, blah blah blah" on Guitar Hero/Rock Band related posts, but I really do feel that if you're going to spend $200 on a *controller*, you should probably spend your money on something more constructive/creative/rewarding like the real thing (albeit a relatively cheap one).
I still have my original thrustmaster flight sim set (joytstick, throttle, pedals), AND the god damn Steel Battalion joystick (which works with some PC games with a little tweaking.
Sorry Logitech. I'm a Flight-sim/space sim/mech-sim fan, but I won't be buying this.
Man, I can't stand flight sims, but if I could get a mechanically operated chair that flipped around and upside down in relation to the ingame plane, that would be the most awesome thing ever, and I would buy it.
Then I would return it a few days later, after having puked my brains out, but it would be worth it.
This is the part where hardcore flight sim people rip me apart for having the attention span of six year old, and fair enough.

Attention everyone who says it costs too much! For $15, you can buy a Nyko USB adapter that works perfectly with universal remotes, with the exception that it takes up one USB port and can't turn the system on (because the USB ports aren't receiving power yet).
So, if you're willing to spend $45 to use your remote to power on your machine, then you can buy this, but to me, the Nyko adapter works perfectly and makes a lot more sense.
@ssoltero: What is the exact issue? Couldn't I avoid that by using e.g. a full powered usb hub to connect it to? As long as it uses that just to power the devices, not issue any commands to the ps3?
@develin: I'm not 100% sure, but I think it actually does use USB to issue commands to the PS3. The Logitech device here converts infrared commands to bluetooth to communicate to the PS3, but the Nyko device I'm talking about converts infrared commands to USB commands to the PS3. Even if you provide power to the device, it still needs to be connected to the PS3 and the PS3 needs to be powered up to actually receive the commands.
But again, I don't think that's a big deal. For $45 more, the only thing that the Logitech device can do over the Nyko one is turn on the machine itself.
One remote for everything and you can set up macros so you press a single button and it say turns on your tv, ps3, hifi and switches to your hdmi input. Pretty nifty little things...however that logitech adapter seems a little large for the job it does (tho it does look sleek) and another $60 ontop of the say $100+ remote...not worth it imo.
@touchmypenguinagain: See, that's the problem I have with this whole "deal". First I need to buy an expensive Logitech remote that'll set me back anywhere between €80 and €400 and then I'll need to get this thing for yet another €60(?) just for the benefit of not needing two remotes to switch the TV to the proper output, turn the PS3 on and control the DVD/BR. It's just not a good deal to me.
In fact, until this thing is actually affordable, I'll stick to playing my DVDs on my 360 and/or stand-alone DVD player.
@Rakkoon: Well, I think it's a better deal for people who already have a uni remote and don't want to spend the cash on the PS3 remote. Although 25 bucks for the PS3 remote seems to be the better deal than a 60 buck adapter. But that's just me.
Having an extra remote really doesn't bother me.
As for the Logitech Harmony remotes, I have the 360 version and the freaking LED display no longer works. It isn't under warranty anymore so I'm pretty much screwed. So multiple remotes it is for me.
If you would rather spend $200 on a real guitar, than you aren't a real guitarist. A $200 electric guitar is what you get your 12 year old first timer.
@H8ff0000: Or a first timer of any age. Plus here in the UK we get good deals on guitars. Besides, I didn't say I could actually play. I'm a keyboardist! =]
@Jon: I just got a $125 guitar at 30. Learning to play...don't want to spend $200+ until I know that I enjoy it. My guitar may not be rock god quality, but it'll help me learn.
"real guitarists" have to start somewhere, you guitar elitist.
@H8ff0000: I've seen people play some shit that would blow your mind on cheaper guitars than that. Conversely, I know guys who have $10,000 worth of gear and still suck so I'm gonna have to disagree with you there.
In all honesty, your 125$ guitar will make it unpleasant to learn. When I started playing, I had a cheapass Gio and I nearly gave up. Then I tried a 300$ guitar at a shop and everything I had been busting my ass to play on that cheap POS guitar came out smooth as butter.
While I can understand the fun in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, I would rather spend $200 on a real guitar if it came to it - considering, from what I know of this Logitech controller, its basically a cheap guitar done up for a game anyway.
I give about 3 weeks before someone mods this into a real guitar. Backwards, I know, but would be awesome.
The entire neck would need to be replaced, parts of the body scooped out to accomodate a real bridge, some drilling and scooping to accomodate pickups and the wiring... I can't say I see the point. For what it'd cost and the likely shit tone you'd get, you may as well build a guitar from scratch with eBay parts.
I prefer the Peak Starpex Obsidian guitar, seeing as it has solo buttons instead of the pointless slider bar, and can be found at Tiger Direct for $60 as opposed to $200.

That's my only real complainnt about the actual GH/RB guitar controllers. That and the lack of tuning knobs.

Surely it couldn't be THAT hard to do.

Plus, true flight simulators are fucking beasts to run whilst looking decent.

Yup, I have one of those. Nothing wrong with it at all.
The ONLY drawback is that you can't power ON the PS3.
However, you can power it OFF via the media bar.
