By Blizzard ]]> World Of Warcraft Forums member Maeglin made a surprising discovery when poking about in the depths of the latest WoW patch. Hidden away in the directory tree was a copy of the Wrath of the Lich King manual.

Go on, have a look now - if you have the latest patch (3.0.2) it is in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS\Documentation (where C:\Program Files\ is wherever the hell you installed WoW). The file in question is Manual_WLK.pdf.

Inside (you will need a PDF reader) you will find a black and white copy of the WotLK manual - almost certainly an outdated version as it refers to customizable runes that have since been dropped.

There are few surprises, but some cool-looking concept art and lots (and we mean lots) of credits and shout-outs to contributors and friends.

<![CDATA[ Man Arrested For Gears 2 & Fable 2 Theft ]]> All those high-profile games leaks - just how do they happen? Well, here is one way...

An employee of games packaging specialists Technicolor has been arrested in connection with the theft of 100 unreleased copies of Gears of War 2 and Fable 2.

An investigation into the theft led Memphis police detectives to follow security guard Rodney Gray when he left his apartment on Thursday. After pulling him over for outstanding driving offences he was found to have a number of games in a bag he was carrying. A search of his apartment revealed games and DVDs valued at over $100,000.

<![CDATA[ Nearly 150 Screenshots of Fallout 3 Leaked ]]> Although I probably should leave anything in Japanese to Bash, pictures speak any language, and there are nearly 150 of them of Fallout 3 that have hit the Internet following the Zenimax Asia expo (Zenimax owns Fallout developer Bethesda.) Tipster Brother None, the forum admin over at No Mutants Allowed, writes: "Apparently the people viewing Fallout 3 in the ZeniMax Asia showing in Taiwan did not take their NDAs very seriously." Apparently so. We have a gallery of 28 screenies on the jump, with a link to the entire set.

<![CDATA[ Rumor: Dueling Rock Band 2 Tracklists ]]> rock_band2.jpgThere are differing leaks out there regarding the track list for Rock Band 2. Both are unattributed, one to a friend of a friend who got a look at an email from Harmonix to MTV or something. But in the interest of rumormongering, we'll repeat both with the caveat that there is no way of knowing if this stuff is for real or not. But if, combined, they're half right then this could be one hell of a track list, possibly the best of any rhythm game.

Also, an IGN Insider interview (transcript provided by reader Max) let slip that buyers of Rock Band 2 will have access to all of the songs off the original Rock Band disc, available as free DLC. Full details on both after the jump.

Says IGN 360 editor Nate Ahern:

Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour create an interesting situation for gamers. If you bought Rock Band 1 then chances are you'll feel cheated by the release of RB2, thus you'd think that GHWT would be the way to go as it somewhat redefines the music gaming genre. However, if you didn't buy the first Rock Band then I would absolutely agree with notagoth. Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you'll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download. Then again, Guitar Hero World Tour does allow users to create and share their own songs, so it's really only a matter of time until the Rock Band library is eclipsed. At the end of the day it could come down to which series has earned your allegiance over the last year since RB's original release."

And on to the leaked track lists. The first is from Demp, a commenter on 8bitfix, and he's got the FOAF who saw the email source. That's like fourth-hand hearsay, but whatever, this ain't court.

<![CDATA[ Ultimate Band for Wii: Music Games in a More Casual Style ]]> Included in the flood of leaks that sprung earlier today was a flash video showing gameplay in Ultimate Band, a no-peripheral music game due out from Disney for the Wii by the end of the year. (The video did not address proposed versions for the PS2 or DS.)

Watching through it a couple of times, this is going to be far more casual than the gameplay in Rock Band or Guitar Hero. The instrument actions seem not to have any connection to the soundtrack, which plays throughout, with vocals. The songs in the video were familiar but all were covered ("My Generation" by The Who, "Fell In Love With a Girl" by the White Stripes, and "Our Time Now" by Plain White T's, all sung by what sounded like the same female vocalist), and the performers were cartoon avatars rather than motion-capped actiors.

First blush, with Ultimate Band, this is not a musical performance simulator. It seems more of a party game. You're moving the Wiimote and Nunchuk in was that intuitively resemble instrument play, but you're not hitting every note that comes over the speakers.

For example, the lead guitar "notes" passed through a side scrolling fret but had no effect on the music at all. An extended fretboard solo involved passing the Nunchuk back and forth rapidly, as if up and down a guitar neck while, I assume, holding the proper key on the Wiimote.

The bass guitar works the same except the notes are even slower to pass. It looked boring, to be honest. The frontman mode involves not singing but animating the lead singer through a variety of points-scoring postures and motions, including the "flourish" and "grandstanding," where players respond to on-screen cues to move the two controllers, and these in turn jack up a "crowd" meter that seems to have a multiplier effect on your points.

Of the four performers, the drummer looks like the fastest paced, and plays closest in time with the music. The difficulty in the others' music performance is minigame quality at best, and a focus seems to be on being able to enjoy the animations and socialize with other players rather than any approximation of a true-to-life-performance.

<![CDATA[ Guitar Hero World Tour's New Guitar Control Revealed, Priced ]]> Also in the batch of leaks going up on NeoGAF and elsewhere: Guitar Hero World Tour (aka GH IV) will feature new controls on the guitar neck, plus a raft of A-list artists including, curiously, the Doors.

"New touch-sensitive guitar Neck Slide opens up the entire guitar neck for unbound solos - shred how you want," says the leaked docs. Word up to this point had promised an upgraded guitar but no details.
The game will also roll out with drums with cymbals, and a mike, which we knew. The drums are wireless and will have quiet pads.

At this rate, GH and Rock Band enthusiasts will have a garage full of obsolete instruments, and this kit is likely to set you back $179.99. But that money also buys you tracks from Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse "and dozens more".

The Doors — let's keep an eye on that one. Drummer John Densmore is notorious for refusing to license Doors tracks, memorably turning down $15 million from Cadillac and criticizing other band members' materialism. The band's unanimous consent is required for any licensing deal, and Densmore has been the only holdout, with one exception: he did agree to allow "Riders on the Storm" to be used in a Pirelli advertisement in the UK only, but later said he'd heard Jim Morrison's voice and sent his portion of the take to charity. If Guitar Hero has truly landed the Doors, it's a big change to how that band has carried on, post-Morrison.

<![CDATA[ More Leaks: Forza 3 and Call of Duty ]]>
Other nuggets gleaned from the ongoing mining of the Xbox marketing leak by Xbox 360 Fanboy:

• The next Call of Duty will be known as "World at War" instead of CoD5. There are five box concepts leaked. There's speculation that calling it World at War is an effort to keep the lifespan of hot-selling CoD4 running as long as possible.

• Forza Motorsport 3 is so huge that the limitations of the DVD format became an issue. It will include 400 cars, 100 tracks and must ship on two discs. Car deformation was also mentioned as a feature of the new title.

A yet-to-be-plugged leak has spilled rumors and secrets on Call of Duty, Forza Motorsport 3, and plans for Xbox Live. Xbox 360 Fanboy is rooting through the plumbing, here's what has broken so far on that site.

• Microsoft seems to be developing a response to the Mii, confirming a long running-rumor. From the docs obtained, it seems avatars will replace the gamer picture and "provide a more lifelike, animated, and fully customizable persona."

<![CDATA[ Spore Creature Creator Demo Leaks Early ]]> The plan was to have a Spore Creature Creator Demo, containing about 25 percent of the full library of creature pieces parts, going out to the public around June 17, around the same time as the full version, which costs $9.99.

Well, a file purporting to be that demo is on Megaupload as we speak. Now, 191 MB is a huge file just to be bogus malware, but still, we assume no responsibility if this isn't what it says it is or turns out to be something worse.

Spore releases for PC and Mac on Sept. 8, 2008, with a version for the DS on Sept. 7 and another TBA for the Wii.

<![CDATA[ IGN Rumors Nintendo Wii Pricing And Date, Spong Misrepresents ]]>

According to Spong.com, there was an absolutely huge leak of internal Wii information over at IGN yesterday. What information? How about practically all of it? (Correction: See edit below, but the gyst is, IGN didn't pull or leak anything. This is all straight from IGN's rumor file.)

According to IGN's article, which was quickly pulled, the Nintendo Wii is going to launch on either November 2nd or November 12th. These dates might very well refer to different territories.

The Wii's price? A pecuniarily svelte $229.

The Wii will be shipped in two colors: black and white. Ashcraft will have to hold out for the pink.

Over 5.5 million Wii's will be produced by the end of the year, compared to the Playstation 3's 1-2 million units. And when the Wii costs $229 compared to the Playstation 3's $499-$599, our bet is they'll sell out all of them.

Keep in mind this isn't coming directly from Nintendo, but is a second-hand regurgitation of an IGN screw-up. But it certainly all seems plausible enough.

Edit: Okay, seems like this actually wasn't a leak at all. The piece being commented upon by Spong is actually still up and makes it clear these are rumors. Spong, on the other hand, claimed they'd been leaked and the article then quickly pulled. Apologies for the confusion! Spong didn't provide a link to the supposedly pulled article, so I couldn't check. Dorks.

<![CDATA[ Sony Denies God of War 2, GT4 Online ]]> Gamasutra followed up with Sony regarding Eurogamer's leaked tidbits on updates to two ultra-popular PlayStation 2 franchises, God of War and Gran Turismo. You might remember the story from earlier this week, that saw Eurogamer posting details, and release dates, for a PS2 sequel to last year's action-adventure smash hit, and the long-promised online edition of Polyphony Digital's racing sim. The info was allegedly culled from marketing materials that someone wasn't supposed to see — at least outside of an NDA.

According to a Sony head, the Killzone details dished out alongside those two are legit.

For my weekly bet, I'll wager a 6-pack of PBR and a box of Tabasco Cheez Its that we'll see these games announced at or before E3.
