Sure, you can't play Gears of War on your Wii, but you'll soon be able to go a few rounds in Gun Cogs, one of the eleven handheld LCD tributes to today's hottest titles coming to WiiWare as part of Alten8's Squibs Arcade. What is Squibs Arcade?

SQUIBS ARCADE takes inspiration from the current generation of AAA titles, distilling the game play to its most fundamental form, and re-imagining them with the style and passion of the classic LCD games.

As you can see in the gallery below, Alten8 has most of their bases covered. Assassin's Creed becomes Crowd Wader, Metal Gear Solid is channeled through Cardboard Axel Much, Wii Fit morphs into We're Fat, and Grand Theft Auto becomes Jack A Motor.

Other titles included in Squibs Arcade include Clown, Button Basher, Fantasy Turn Base, Call of Honour, Lots of Levelling, and Regret the Fist, most of which carry their inspirations in their names.

I absolutely love this idea. Companies often talk of distilling gameplay down to its purest form. It doesn't get much more pure than a handheld LCD game.

<![CDATA[Budget Management - The Pocket RPG]]> In these difficult economic times we all need to take control of our finances. Trouble is, saving and budgeting is DULL DULL DULL. How best to motivate an easily-bored gamer?

How about by making saving into a game? Takara Tomy's Wallet Saver is a handheld LCD game shaped like a purse that lets you enter your budget and financial details and then plays like an RPG. Every purchase you make in real life gets entered into the game using the stylus (you can even open up the 'purse' and store your receipts inside) and influences gameplay.

Stay within your budget and things will go smoothly, but conflict will arise if you go and waste your money of stupid purchases like, er, novelty LCD games.

<![CDATA[Clearvision PlayStation 3 LCD...Not Quite Your PSP3]]> Wouldn't it be great to have a mobile PlayStation 3? Sure it would. And this Clearvision 7-inch LCD Gaming Monitor is a good place to start. No, it's not as portable as the PSP (or even the PSOne ) but...well...OK, this thing is a horrible, horrible idea it's a portable almost portable PS3 for goodness sake! Subvert those Sony engineers surely working on the PS3P somewhere deep in their R&D labs and design your own. Buy the monitor, spray paint the whole thing metallic purple, slap a few Lair stickers on there and you will be the talk of the town, really.

<![CDATA[Buy An LCD Get a PS3 or 360]]> lcdfree.JPG

If you haven't taken the plunge into high-def gaming yet, NewEgg seems to have a deal for you.

If you purchase a 46-inch Samsung LCD HDTV from them for about $3,000, the company will throw in either a free Xbox 360 or a free Playstation 3.

Seems like a good deal if you want to drop into high-def gaming in one swipe.

<![CDATA[Portable Xbox 360 LCD Screen]]>

This is kinda cool: A 12-inch, 720p LCD screen that you can attach to the side/top of your Xbox 360 to make the console a wee-bit more portable. Unfortunately, the $300 screen is only coming out in Japan for now.

While it's a cool idea, I don't know how much real use it has. I guess it's perfect for dorm settings if you don't mind the teeny screen and not so teeny price.
