On a Thursday? Sorry, but we got some independence to celebrate. That's what we'll be doing all day tomorrow instead of hunting for game cakes, posting crazy wild speculation and bringing you the freshest of Tifa hentai. We'll be shootin' guns, lighting M-80s and stuffing our fat faces with saturated fats and washing it all down with a frosty cold... well, you know. We might even find some time to do a few posts. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it.

We might even play some games! Playing through Too Human has given me a loot gathering itch that only Diablo II and/or Phantasy Star Online can scratch. Say, that reminds me. This weekend is a free Day of Defeat: Source weekend, meaning you can game on Valve's dime should you have a Steam account. Have a good one, America!

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> While wrangling coverage of Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational will consume a portion of my weekend, spending more time hands-on with Silicon Knights' Too Human will swallow up quite a bit more of my Saturday and Sunday. Expect extended impressions on that game throughout next week. To wind down, I'll be devoting some personal time with Team Fortress 2, playing as one of the many Pyros clogging the ranks on the hunt for Steam Achievements and new weapons. Oh, and there's Soul Bubbles to finish. Lordy!

Other than that, it's time for serious Summer fun. We'll be bandying about shuttlecocks and grilling lots of meat in the greater Los Angeles area, working on our third sunburn. What have you got planned for this regular sized weekend? Any gaming gettin' done?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> With the new changes to the Pyro class in Team Fortress 2, it's time to blow the dust off the PC—something I've been neglecting—and get my hands on those lovely new weapons. And those two new maps! Since there's a free TF2 weekend happening right now, you really have no excuse not to join in on the fun. Okay, you might have a half-dozen or so, but I really don't want to hear 'em.

I'll also be cruising through Metal Gear Solid 4 one more time, taking my time to enjoy the sights instead of constantly thinking "Must finish by Tuesday. Must publish review. Run, Snake, run!!" Other than that, I'll just be trying to beat the heat.

What are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> Me? Metal Gear Solid 4 obviously! I'm only a few hours in, right when Snake starts battling the space aliens and all those Raiden clones start showing up and attack Meryl with the leech launcher. That's total bullshit, obviously, so don't string me up for spoiling you on Solid Snake's search for the kingdom of the crystal skull and that there's an unlockable bloodsucking weapon.

Beyond MGS4, I have a Kotaku giveaway contest to design this weekend, a birthday party to attend, plus some Meat Bun related things to wrap up, all very exciting stuff. All that and a Metal Gear Solid 4 review by Monday? Can I do it?! What about you? What are your IRL and virtual plans for the weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> The only gaming I'll be doing this weekend will be in the form of low stakes blackjack and pulling some one-armed bandits, as this weekend is a Vegas weekend for yours truly. Having just visited Las Vegas for Capcom's Captivate 08 media event last week, you might wonder why I'd be so quick to return. Well, when you don't leave step out of the confines of the hotel for 48 hours, you don't really see much of Vegas.

Besides, last night we had a bad gamer bender at a friend's house. After a Haze demo, we decided to continue slumming it with the so-bad-it's-bad Crash Time and the even worse Yaris, two impressively dreadful Xbox 360 racers. At least the Battlefield: Bad Company was fun. But I think I need a break. How about you? Gaming plans?

<![CDATA[ What Did You Play This Weekend? ]]> Another blown "What Are You Playing This Weekend?," another chance for "What Did You Play This Weekend?" on a Monday evening. With WAYPTW? duties put to the wayside by attending Capcom's Captivate 08,—the details of which you should see tomorrow morning beginning at 8 AM Eastern Time—we'll have to settle for the accurate version, not the fantasy version of your weekend gaming adventures.

Me? I was video gamed out after playing the wares on display at Captivate 08, plus I'm still suffering some sort of bizarre thumb strain from speed-reviewing Grand Theft Auto IV—no, that's not a joke—so I was game free. I'm currently running through Final Fantasy VI for the first time ever, though, and will be all up in it again this week. You?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> This is weird. I feel like I don't have anything to play! It's Memorial Day weekend and, in the tradition of takin' it easy to honor the memory of U.S. soldiers who have died in military service to their country [Ed.'s note: :( ] I'll be takin' it real easy. I'll play whatever is on the inside of my many consoles already. Taking stock, that's Grand Theft Auto IV in the Xbox 360, Super Mario Galaxy in the Wii, Phantasy Star Collection in the PS2 and Haze in the PS3. Just kidding on that last one. I've had my fill. I'll make sure to put that right back in its case.

We've got some BBQing and pool partying that needs to get done, plus some lazing about, maybe some straightening of the U.S. flag outside Kotaku Towers West. Other than that, just kickin' it. You? What are you playing this extended holiday weekend, should you have one?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> I'm about to beat feet to a Sony Computer Entertainment America related event, so who knows what I'll be playing this day. Hopefully, something exciting! For the rest of the weekend though, I'll be hunkering down with a PlayStation 3 and a copy of Haze, racing to shoot my way through Ubisoft's first person exclusive that should appeal to bees. Bees!! I've gotten as far as the installation so far, but will have it finished by Monday at the latest. Woo!

Okay, I'm already late for Sony! Have a good weekend, y'all! Oh, what are you playing, anyway?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> LETS R-TYPELast night we had a bit of a gaming bender at Kotaku Towers West, a night filled with Wii Fit, We Ski, and Rock Band. The highlight, of course, was a two hour Cruis'n session—the Wii shitware title that was finally freed from its shrinkwrap confines last night to much amusement. It's absolutely the most unintentionally hilarious game I've ever played, with some of the sloppiest game design ever... even for a Cruis'n title. Rarely has a game brought me to tears with laughter, so Cruis'n should at least be lauded for that. Highly recommended for your next game night, especially if booze is available.

This weekend I'll be ditching the Cruis'n as I get back to R-Type Command and continue my Rock Band duties, now with added Boston. How about you? Weekend plans?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> LETS R-TYPEWith Ma and Pa McWhertor swooping in to LA this weekend, my attempts to get some Grand Theft Auto IV time in are most assuredly thwarted. I can't have my mother hearing that kind of language, seeing her favorite son act like a callous criminal and enjoying every salacious second! Perhaps I'll be able to squeeze in a bit of time with R-Type Command, scheduled to ship May 6 and arriving at Kotaku Towers West yesterday. The review is planned for an appearance next Friday, if you're looking for an opinion on the PSP game.

Outside of some strategic Bydo empire dismantling, I'll be playing "Entertain The Folks" with my weekend. How about you? What are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> I'll be one of the few playing Grand Theft Auto IV this weekend (God and Fed Ex man willing) with a legitimate copy of the game. I'll be knee deep in multiplayer goodness, hoping to get a firm grasp on GTA IV's many many modes, while hopefully securing that "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie" Achievement that will be extra hard to get.

And that's it! No time for anything but GTA IV—even though my copy of the new Phantasy Star collection just shipped!—as reviews must be written, or we suffer the consequences. Make sure you stop by this weekend to give it an eyeballing. Other than some Kotaku review reading time, what do you have planned for the weekend? More importantly, what are you playing?

<![CDATA[ What Did You Play This Weekend? ]]> Look, I'm very sorry about not having readied a What Are You Playing This Weekend? post this past Friday. Thank the Lord for Superman and Owen Good, since the latter of the two polled you on your shameful gaming experiences. I do have a good excuse though, as I was locked in a room with my boss, frantically attempting to defeat the colossus that is Grand Theft Auto IV over the course of five days. Even after a thumb-crushing GTA IV marathon, I still found the time to play a little Team Fortress 2, something that didn't put too much strain on my wonderfully opposable digit.

Yes, it really does hurt. Sad, really. Once the pain subsides, I can revisit GTA Vice City (which I never finished) and play some Lost Planet: Colonies. For now, let's have it. What did you play this weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> easyoff.jpgReader Jacob Reiff pointed out that we have yet to ask the most important question of the weekend, so let's wrap up Saturday with just that. So, what are you playing this weekend? Me? Thanks for asking. Still powering through Bully, and I also downloaded the Iron Man demo, Ikaruga, and Black from Xbox originals (dunno why).

I am also playing the super realistic Apartment Security Deposit Challenge 2K8: Oven Cleaning, and I downloaded the optional Refrigerator De-Scum Map Pack for that one too.

Seriously, let us and let everyone know in the comments what you're jamming to until we resume our regularly scheduled lives on Monday.

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> NO REFUGEWith a planned nine straight days of obligation gaming, defined as titles I might not necessarily play on my own time, I think I'll be taking it easy this weekend, doing my best to re-beat Ikaruga and keeping my hands controller free. I'd beaten the Dreamcast import version of Ikaruga a few months after its release, but I'm a credit feeder, never to be skilled enough to play with default, no-continue settings.

Outside of that, there's trip planning and taxes to be done, plus the odd housekeeping chore. Expect a very worn out set of Kotaku editors by next weekend, some who might swear games off forever. No joke! What you playing this weekend with your free time?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> U R MR GAYIt's time to charge up the AAs and get some much needed Wii time in. I'll be mucking around with a bit of Sega's The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, as I've never made it all the way through the third game in the series. I've also been slacking on properly finishing Super Mario Galaxy, an unfortunate black mark on my permanent record. When I'm not doing that, I may be farting around on PartnerNet, working on something for next week. I'll also be performing the Great Gawker Contractor Receipt Hunt in anticipation of a gruesome meeting with my accountant, at which a fantastically large check to the IRS will be written out.

Enough about my troubles with the US government and shoddy accounting abilities! What are you playing this weekend? Hit us square in the comments and let us know.

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> Obligation gaming isn't as much fun as elective gaming. Sure, it's still better than digging ditches, but being genuinely interested in playing Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword but having to speed through it to meet a deadline takes some of the (ninja) magic out of it. Thank the Magician Lord for freed up weekends! Like this one! I'll be enjoying some new Boston tracks in Rock Band as well as doing some research with Jet Set Radio Future. Might even squeeze in a little Phantom Hourglass. And I'll be doing it on my own time. Yay!

I've also got a sweet new US Postal Service approved digital scale to enjoy. Jealous? Try to disprove that you are by letting us know what you'll be playing this weekend. To the comments!

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> Gaming? What's that? My life is now spent at the post office, telling the nice lady behind the bullet proof glass that I don't $20 worth of delivery confirmation on my package again. That's not totally true. I actually have plenty of gaming to get done this weekend, including seeing how well the Wii Zapper holds up to some House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return and some Uncharted: Drake's Fortune just for fun. Add to that some Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword and you've got a weekend of quick reflex gaming accounted for. Not much else planned, outside of gaming and Meat Bun! Woo!

Hope everyone has a beautiful and safe weekend. If you're doing some gaming, brag about it and your recent purchases in the comments.

I'll be enduring my share of bums and corpses in Condemned 2 for the Xbox 360 for a good portion of the weekend, hoping to provide my thoughts on Monday. I've also got a copy of Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword to try out, which means I'll have to bust out by old Nintendo DS. Still haven't shipped off the DS lite to be repaired.

That's all I'm signing myself up for. How about yourselves? What are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> ssbb_wayptw.jpgSorry, no time for gaming this weekend. Instead, I'll be developing my psionic abilities, channeling my hate into beams that can shoot from my eyeballs, to properly direct a fatal but invisible charge in the direction of the UPS man. Why him? He's got my copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a warehouse... somewhere. I'd have really liked it by Friday, you see, but it's already the afternoon and... where the hell is my copy of Brawl already!!

Sorry about that. It's cool. Everything's cool! I'm calm. Maybe I'll just have a few laughs packing up my Nintendo DS to ship off to be repaired. That ought to put me in a jolly good mood! I need some gin. Anyhoo! What are you playing this weekend?

But I will be playing some Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, a game I've never completed, just for laughs. Of course, there will be hot tears of pain streaming down my cheeks while I mow down pedestrians to the musical stylings of A Flock Of Seagulls, but there may be a giggle or chortle at some point.

Patapon and God of War: Chains of Olympus are just two of the many UMDs stashed in my check-in luggage, so I expect I'll be firing up the PlayStation Portable quite a bit this weekend. After my interview with Q-Games Dylan Cuthbert earlier this week, I've got an itch to go back to PixelJunk Racers, too. Need a bit of winding down time after GDC, so I plan to sleep 'til noon. This weekend, we're gettin' the band back together, ratcheting up the difficulty and rockin' out to some newly downloaded stuff. In anticipation of next week's hands-on time with King of Fighters XII, I may bust out a little XI to refresh my memory. Other than that, I've got a wedding to attend (you won't see many posts from me today) and some prepping to do for GDC (flying up on Sunday night). Busy busy!

It should be very, very exciting following the blue line from Vegas to LA. When I finally get home, expect me to unwind with a few rounds of Team Fortress 2, a title I've been chatting about a lot with colleagues and developers and DICE. Demos for Patapon and God of War: Chains of Olympus were stashed in the DICE schwag bag, so I'll be giving those a spin, too. Yeah, I'm late to the party. So what?

I never did get "100% shot down" on Level 5, you know. I suppose I may wind down with something else, say a revisit to Super Mario Galaxy—which I've yet to finish—or Silent Hill 2—for that dog ending—but its looking like a weekend of synaesthesia.

Okay, that's a lie. I'm actually taking a break from the soon to be released strategy game while posting from an incredibly pretentious, over-priced coffee shop with a smarmy name. But, I promise, once all this unfortunate blogging is done, it's back to the darker, dust filled world of Days of Ruin for me. When I do get home, I'll be playing nothing but Team Fortress 2, Omega Five and a little bit of Super Stardust HD. <![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> Having stayed up way past my 8 PM bed time last night curled up with a cup of chamomile, my wooby and a copy of Team Fortress 2, and now suffering for it, I may have to restrict myself from too much gaming this weekend. It was a bit of a bender, you see. Oh, sure, there'll be some Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and more The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass happening, but I've gotta do my final prep for CES, which kicks off on Sunday night with Bill Gates keynote. I'll be working my fingers to the nub, tapping away at a keyboard for various reasons, making lots of internet happen. But in the in-between, I'll be taking breaks to play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Team Fortress 2. I may find some sit-down time to work my way through the Temple of the Ocean King in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, but a week away from my consoles has inspired a good deal of motivation to spend more time with them. I might do a bit of video card shopping and processor overclocking to better the performance of my PC, which whimpers during TF2 sessions.

Other than that, I plan for total maxin' and relaxin', but hit us up with your gaming plans in the comments area, if it pleases you.

Actually, I may have stashed away a PSP and a copy of Jeanne D'Arc in my suitcase, but haven't bothered to dig past the t-shirts to confirm.

The real-life game I'll be playing is the hunt for a Nintendo DS and a copy of Brain Age for my folks. So far, I've turned up jack and squat, as people who planned a bit better for their Christmas giving seem to have snatched up the DS I desperately need.

Enough of my troubles—what are you playing this weekend?

I've also finally unwrapped my copy of Cruis'n for the Wii and Neo Geo Battle Colosseum for the PlayStation 2, which should make for so bad it's good and actually pretty good diversions. I've also charged up the Nintendo DS and plan on wasting plenty of my time playing Picross. It may very well make it into my top ten of 2007. No joke.

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> The Americans already had their go at listing what's lodged in the drives of their console of choice, but now everyone with a couple days off can chime in. This weekend, I'll be continuing my world tour with Rock Band, unlocking what I can while attempting to make a dent in the Metallica tunes I've already downloaded. Our Thanksgiving Day band, Steeltown, won over plenty of fans with its drunken singing, spastic drum pounding and off-beat guitar licking. I nearly blacked out from my overly breathy renditions of Radiohead's "Creep" while under the influence of a tryptophan-Coors Light cocktail. Good times.

I'll grab a few spare minutes to get back into Super Mario Galaxy and finally fire up The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Where's my Nintendo DS charger, anyway? Oh, and what are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[ What Are You Playing This Weekend? ]]> I'll be playing some real-life Cooking Mama, as I attempt to bake my first practice pie in anticipation for Thanksgiving. Plans for pumpkin and mince meat (sans meat) are forming, but we'll have to see how this weekend's beta pies turn out. On the gaming side, I'll be playing Super Mario Galaxy, maybe a little Uncharted: Drake's Fortune if I can scare myself up a copy. I'm also expecting a Wii Zapper to show up at some point soon, so I may take Link's Crossbow Training for extended impressions. If only I could fit in Half-Life 2: Episode Two at some point...

So, what's up? What are you playing this weekend?
