It was buggy as all when I was in the beta. If it's anything like that still, it has no chance of surviving. Not to mention it's kind of a bad idea to launch around the same time a much bigger game is.
It's a shame really, the core gameplay was pretty fun and had a lot of potential. Probably something worth checking out next year if the game is still alive.
I was pretty disappointed with the beta. Nothing felt tight. The world was bland (yes, I know, it's post apocalyptic, but Fallout had a rich and detailed world) and everything felt....5 years ago. Hard to describe, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near finished...felt like an alpha build during open beta.
I logged a couple of hours after the actual launch and had to wait 1h30. It's annoying but I rather have to wait a little to get in the game than not being able to play at all because of lag or server just exploding because of thousands of ppl at the same time.
there's just no escaping this...no MMO launch will be perfect. It's impossible. That being said, Aion's was pretty good. Played for several hours and experienced no lag at all, no server crash, nothing. Just a smooth game. Congratz NCsoft.
@vnunes: I thought Guild Wars when they launched held up pretty well when it was released. Granted it's not a MMO but there were a lot of people who bought that game.
I learned for every possible MMO that I may be interested in is to wait at least 2 months for it to be stable and get most of the bugs that is plagued during open beta and release.
If I wait long enough, they'll eventually do a free trial for certain amount days and if I like it I get more game time when I buy it so it's a win-win situation if you think about it.
The last few games I've seen with head start programs have been... Interesting. The Champions Online headstart seemed to be less of a head-start for the players, more of an opportunity for the developers to get a Head Start on stamping out balance issues. They changed the game all up at launch based on the data they pulled during the head start, and the changes they put through broke many players builds. (Or so I'm told, mine were fine.)
Same applies here... More of a Head Start on working out server problems. I suspect we see this trend die rather quickly... People'll forgive anything in a beta, but not when they feel it's retail.
I hope nobody criticizes the game for this. No big MMO launch goes smoothly. Ever. WoW was a nightmare. They had to take the game down for over 24 hours once.
What kills me is that when you do finally manage to get on, you have to get in the back of the queue if you get disconnected! wtf that, NC...
Sitting at 2096/2519 atm after my disconnect about 30 minutes ago. The remaining time estimate means nothing, btw. Earlier I was around position 1200 and it said 30 minutes. It took me over 2 hours to get on.
I'd say I'm not surprised and I understand the problem completely. Buuuut Warhammer was able to handle the flood of people and I don't understand the problem at all. Seriously NC, what's the freaking deal? How do you not properly prepare for the launch of your biggest MMO pretty much ever?
@tshack: Know how they handled the flood? By opening 40 servers which they ended up merging 3 times already...what NCSoft is doing is smart, it's either have some disgruntled people now or be forced to merge servers 5 months from now.
@kahoona: But if all the pre-order guys come away n go "oi, guy's who've not bought it, it's shit, you have to wait hours to log in" then they'll definitely have to do a bit of rapid shrinking when no one buys there game post-launch.
When the pre-order guys, the guys so excited about your game they paid you before they even had it, are getting crapped on you have a problem.
@deanbmmv: If people act like that then they are really really short sighted...there is really nothing NCSoft can do to stop this problem, it's to be expected and throwing money at it does nothing.
"Hey, is steve back from best buy with those server boxes?"
"Nah, I sent him out to pick up chinese before that"
"Boy, these subscribers sure are going to be pissed..."
"Eh, we'll just say something along the lines of, 'Thank you for your patience! We did not expect such a reception!' yadda yadda, and give them a free week or something. No big deal."
Man, that sucks. As a Guild Wars player, I am surprised to hear that an NCsoft game has a waiting time. Never once happened with GW. I am sure everything will work itself out soon enough though.
@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Step 1: Drop Game Guard
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit
Step 4: Reinstate Game Guard, repeat step 1

I don't understand why most of the readers don't understand that they MAY bring back game guard. It'll be too late for most of you who don't get that where you end up buying the game and several months later GG will be back in and you'll be pissed and by then NC Soft has your money.
I was also interested in Aion but once I heard that it used GG, I knew it wouldn't end well. Until GG is removed and will never come back will be the day I might purchase Aion, you people should do the same especially if you had problems with GG in the past.
To let you readers know even Exteel another NC Soft game uses GG, not entirely sure about Dungeon Runners (which is going to die anyways).
@Vonhert: Answer what question? I never asked a question. Only if you can read and comprehend better.
I was stating that people thinking that Game Guard will be removed forever is wrong, I stated that it MAY come back after launch so don't expect months down the line and be disappointed.

People can forgive bugs, they can't forgive boredom. If you can keep them interested despite the bugs, the game is going to do fine.
That said, I haven't actually played the game.

I'm sure they'll bring it back after a month or so, they're just dropping it so their forums don't explode when the game launches.
