Following a preview week for VIP subscribers that indicated huge success for Turbine's new free-to-play, microtransaction-based structure, Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited is now live for anyone who wishes to partake.

"Today Turbine changes the way gamers experience their online entertainment by providing them with a choice in how they pay and play for a premium MMO," said Jim Crowley, CEO of Turbine, Inc. "The DDO Unlimited Beta program has been a huge success and the initial response to the game from both press and players has been nothing short of phenomenal. In response, we have already more than doubled our capacity to handle the increased demand."

To play, simply head on over to www.ddo.com and download the game.

<![CDATA[The Chronicles Of Spellborn Is Now Open For Business]]> Acclaim Games officially launches their massively multiplayer online role-playing game The Chronicles of Spellborn in North America today, with free two-week subscriptions on offer for all newly registered players.

The Chronicles of Spellborn is an online role-playing game that takes place in a unique, otherworldly post-apocalyptic setting. It features a very interesting action-based combat system, where positioning truly matters. It's quite unlike anything I've experienced in an online RPG before, and I'd highly recommend at least giving it a try.

And if you do plan on trying it out, now would be the time. A "freemium" title, Spellborn allows anyone to play the game for free up to a certain point, after which they can no longer progress unless they start paying a subscription fee, which starts at $14.99 a month. From now through May 7th, all newly registered players get free premium access for two weeks, which should be plenty of time to decide whether or not you want to commit your hard earned monies.

Visit The Chronicles of Spellborn website to sign up or learn more.

<![CDATA[Runes Of Magic Launches Chapter 1: "Rise Of The Demon Lord"]]> After months of beta testing both open and closed, Frogster Interactive finally officially launches the first chapter of their massively multiplayer online game Runes of Magic.

Runes of Magic Chapter 1: Rise of the Demon King is now live, so using the excuse of still being in beta to excuse the smattering of text still left in its original Korean as of two days ago is no longer valid. Frogster Interactive has deemed the game fit for release, which makes it even more confusing whenever I use my Ranger's squiggly oriental lettering attack. Still, it's free to download and play, so it's not as if we can ask for our money back.

They've added a ton of new content for the game's release, including several new dungeons, an epic quest line, and level 35 elite skills, with more content planned in the coming weeks. I'm a bit bothered by the fact that one of the upcoming features is a "New combat formula allowing much easier balancing", as that seems like the sort of thing you'd want in place before launch, but once again...free is free.

Despite all of its flaws, Runes of Magic isn't a bad way to spend a few hours, especially if you've got enough of a sense of humor to laugh away some of the more serious problems. Head over to the game's official site to snag yourself a copy of the client and sign up for an account, and watch out for Ranger Kotaku's squiggly line attack.

<![CDATA[Celebrate The LittleBig Planet Launch October 21st Safely Within Your Spacesuit]]> It's nearly here! LittleBigPlanet has gone gold, and will be hitting stores in North and Latin America on October 21st. Of course certain safety precautions have to be taken whenever you launch a new title into an unfamiliar atmosphere, so Sony is serving up these limited edition spacesuits as free DLC. They're only going to be available for the first week, however, so those of you buying the title online might want to upgrade your shipping, just in case.

Also up for grabs during week one is the rare "I was there Week One" t-shirt, which is indeed so rare that I've placed it after the jump.

Awww, isn't he cute?

<![CDATA[New York Phantom Hourglass Launch Spectacular]]> Halo 3 isn't the only game that gets a fancy shmancy New York City launch event. Nintendo is kicking off the release of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass with a party on Sunday the 30th at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Plaza. Fans will be able to get their picture taken with a Link facsimile, participate in costume contests and trivia quizzes, and from 2-4PM they'll be able to buy the game a day before release! The event runs from 1-4PM, with the costume contest taking place during the last hour, so you have extra time to squeeze into those tights. The only reason I didn't stay after the Halo event for this launch is that I am pretty damn exhausted. I'll be there in spirit though, even if I end up sleeping past 4PM.

<![CDATA[A Little Help Finding A Wii on Launch Day (Maybe!)]]>

Now that all the Wii pre-order madness is behind us, you may be wondering if you'll still be able to get your hands on one come November 19. Wiiloaded decided to research the major retailers and break it down to which locations you will more likely to get a system without pre-order.

Naturally, their first rule is: Don't bother going to GameStop or EB Games as they are only getting a limited number which have already been sold as pre-orders thus they get the "No Chance" rating. Best Buy ranks with a "Most Fun" rating while Sam's Club/Costco receive the "Most Overlooked" moniker. They also suggest bringing lawn chairs, blankets and your favorite handheld system to while away the chilly hours or, as an alternative, try and find a retailer that's off the beaten path.

Wiiloaded makes no guarantee that you'll find a Wii at one of these locations, but they do make it much easier to decide which of the many paths to glory you wish to take.

<![CDATA[Importers Prepare to PS3 Price Gouge, Start Pre-Orders]]> Wow, importer Lik-Sang has started accepting pre-orders for the Playstation 3 and 20 PS3 games for no money down. Reading through the rules, everything seems pretty cool: You can always cancel, you can change which one you want, you can choose between U.S. and Japan versions. Then I noticed the "Extra Note" tucked down at the bottom of the page.

" Be prepared that the day-1 prices will be much higher than the manufacturers suggested retail price," it starts. Uh, oh, can you say price gauging?

Hit the jump for their very long "Extra Note" which uses phrases like "There is never enough of the good stuff on launch day" and "Mastercard would call that 'priceless

Fortunately, they do allow you to just sit on your pre-order even after the PS3 hits, if you don't want to pay the obviously bloated price.

Extra note: Be prepared that the day-1 prices will be much higher than the manufacturers suggested retail price. Experienced and veteran hardcore gamers, who are not importing a system for the first time, know that buying a PS3 at launch or a PSP at launch is not the same thing as simply buying a mere PlayStation 3 or a random PSP off some supermarket shelf. You're paying for the privilege of getting it two months before the massive overflow. Especially with the long forecasted shortages (only 100.000 units for Japan at release date), MasterCard would call that 'priceless'. There is never enough of the good stuff on a launch day, and Lik Sang is required to pay premium pricing to get earlybird stock in sufficient levels for everybody. We can only extend these offers to you during the first couple of months, while waiting for the market to stabilize. But that's the beauty of the No Money Down Special Pre-Order system, you can always ignore day-1 prices and wait for a few more days, a few more weeks, or even several months, until the price goes down to an acceptable level. Without ever losing your pre-order position!

<![CDATA[Reggie To Hand-Out First U.S. Wiis]]>

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told ABC News that he would be on hand in New York to personally hand-out the first Wiis in the U.S.

"Those consumers, the core gamer, are very important to us," Reggie said. "And you know what? I'll be at a store in the New York area, where they will camp out and I will be handing out some Wiis that very first minute that we're available for purchase."

While Gamespot guesses that the store he will be hanging at will be the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Plaza (they say Times Square for some reason), I suspect it will be the Toys R Us in Times Square. I seem to recall hearing either a rumor or fact that the Toys R Us would be the site of the official Wii launch party in the U.S. Of course, I've also heard rumors that the PS3's launch will occur there and I can't image Toys R Us will be home to both.
