Two slightly odd gameplay videos from Square Enix's upcoming RPG The Last Remnant. Full marks for actually containing gameplay - I get sick of watching endless animated bullshots, but these look great.

The first video shows how a typical battle will play out - fairly standard Square-style stat shuffling with combos, breakers and whatnot. I always find these confusing to watch but this seems particularly frenetic. You can see a couple of characters using the game's new Quick Time Event system to execute special attacks with timed button presses.

Nice rawk soundtrack too. Assuming that is actually from the game.

The next video is altogether less stressful - but no less confusing.

Protagonist Rush Sykes runs around a marshland, splashing through pools of water and reeds and weaving in and out of what looks like a herd of giant levitating pink shrimp.

It looks pretty. The shrimp notice him. Fade to black.

Ok then!

<![CDATA[Microsoft To Show Off Xbox 360 RPG Line-Up In Tokyo Tomorrow]]> Microsoft may not be winning Japan over with its Xbox 360—it typically sells under 10,000 consoles a month in the region—but that doesn't mean it's going to stop trying. Tomorrow in Japan the company is holding a press conference to focus on its RPG line-up, presumably to show off future wares geared toward the market like Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant from Square Enix, but it may have more than that. News from the event should start to hit late tonight, very early tomorrow morning in the West.

We know that Mistwalker is working on Cry On and a Blue Dragon sequel, so we may get some updates on that, but perhaps Microsoft has a megaton or two squirreled away. If you stay up late enough, you might be able to catch wind of what's going on, but rest assured that whatever drama awaits, it will be here in the morning. Get some sleep!

<![CDATA[Last Remnant Site opens]]>
Square Enix in all their RPG glory have launched the Last Remnant website both in the US and Japan. There's not much to see except some flash animation of words in sentences (just the one though, don't want to give too much away) and a scroll of the very picture you see before you. However, they are very proud that they've been able to release the two websites SIMULTANEOUSLY. Wow.
