@funcmode: I do like the music and it is a cool opening event but it isn't excatly what you link with LAN events (yeah I have been to a few of those too)
Also, insulting the intelligence of and making blind assumptions about someone who called you stupid and made assumptions about you doesn't make you the better man. It actually puts you on the exact same level.
But at least your comment to mizeriq shows you don't take yourself TOO seriously.
"well then, thats 10,000 kids that never have to worry about getting STD's , or getting laid for that matter.

the joke was meant to imply that a place like that gets really funky, and i should know because every damn SF tourney i've been to was very much like that. the same goes for games conventions, at times.
that is not to say that this place was even full of smelly geeks, because duh, im not there, im just making a joke based off a damned picture.
secondly, im a proud latino gamer geek. it doesn't mean i'm so above cracking jokes about my heritage or my hobbies. one cannot take shots and then not receive them.
for the sake of playing devil's advocate, you very well know that many people that find things offensive have no problem going elsewhere and inputting their own disdain for all things in life.
to be fair when one makes a joke, OF COURSE theres going to be an assumption of anything, thats the point of most jokes. i was aiming to make a joke, and these guys were just assuming what type of person i am based off a stupid joke.
im guilty of making a corny joke, but i sure as hell ain't guilty of insulting anyone.... particularly when im a proud gaming geek myself. people need to fall back and take a chill pill once in a blue.
I agree it's important to be able to laugh at yourself, and that includes being able to laugh at groups you identify with, but if you're going to make a joke at someone's expense, even your own, it helps if you mitigate the offense with a witty or creative delivery. You basically respoded to a picture of gamers with "lol virgins :D" and expected people to find it amusing. It takes a little more effort than that to get people to laugh at their own insecurities, or at harmful stereotypes that affect them.
If it seems like I'm being overly critical, it's partly because that's one of my character flaws, but it's also because I don't think it's wasted effort. That's high praise when talking about a random person on the Internet.
@Mushroom_Retainer: great comments. duly noted. the end never justifies the means.
iz just hearted you dawg !^_^} so pls dont yell at me man, im sure all those swedish lan party kids will get laid and have kids who will go to swedish lan parties and get laid as well... lol
@CosmicElement: Anyone see him on Never Mind the Buzzcocks last week? I thought he was surprisingly articulate and engaging, in a way that his music nearly always fails to be.
But then that type of Eurodance has always left me kind of cold. I know a lot of people enjoy it very much.
@dd528: I had no idea he was on NMTB so I just watched it on iPlayer, great episode and Basshunter seemed like a pretty stand-up guy. Seeing him getting spanked by David Williams was unexpected ;D
@D-K, Anarchist: I've never heard of someone bringing "lunch money" to school in Sweden... Every kid eats what the school serves, no need to bring money.
@DouglasJayFalcon: Maybe if it doesn't take off on the PS3 or if it's hugely successful on PS3, they'll consider it. Then again, I'm sure someone else will do something just as massive for the PC at some point.
@-MasterDex-: They made a game more massive than MAG almost a decade ago. Planetside was the first (and only good one, so far) MMOFPS, which supports about 300 players per continent. In fact, a lot of the ideas in MAG are taken straight from Planetside, not that that's a bad thing.
@Terrorsaur - Five Six: Huxley was never supposed to be a Battlefield-esque large-scale war game, it was a MMO of twitch-shooters like Quake and Unreal, from what I heard, basically a framework to tie together a bunch of gladiator matches.
Hopefully Planetside 2 actually gets support, and they realize the mistakes they made with Core Combat.
And they say PC gaming is dead! POPPYCOCK! I say! poppycock! The only LANs I've been to have been the ones twice a year that my clan hosts. They're good craic, plenty of alcohol, weed and gaming to while away the weekend.
@-MasterDex-: I can relate.. My roommate at the time hurt himself trying to lay an egg.. I won't go into that now..
We're not your typical nerds.. we get really, really high/outofthisworld. I still, to this day, have a scar on my eyebrow from one of those weekends... never knew how it got there but my 2 friends laugh menacingly everytime it's mentioned.

FYI im very far from a virgin. yes obviously not all hardcore gamers are complete geeks that never get laid, but thanks for trying to educate me.
dont take everything you read so seriously, its ok to inject a little humor in your life.

first off,
ive never really seen that joke used on the net. i do have a social life that doesn't involve me scouring the internet for the next big joke.
and for the record, "the cake is a lie" is something that i have no idea about, other than i see it come up on posts about Portal once in a while.
but hey don't let me stop you from assuming you know me so well....LOL

now this is a classic example of reaching out to help a man in need.
im hearting you simply because that was funny as hell.

Regardless of wether your joke was funny or not, it was certainly clichéd and insulting, so you shouldn't be surprised that someone was offended by it. Personally, it bugs me when someone uses a tired old stereotype in their half-baked joke and then gets all defensive when someone calls them on it. People use the "It's just a joke" defense to excuse racist and sexist jokes as well, you know.
Also, insulting the intelligence of and making blind assumptions about someone who called you stupid and made assumptions about you doesn't make you the better man. It actually puts you on the exact same level.
